24/2/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Caulfield, Blue Diamond Stakes day

1 Dunkel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has class on his side as well as brilliance and I’ll bank on that getting him home here. He has been kept on the fresh side since a strong win at The Valley back on Dec 30. Very quiet jumpout at Kyneton in getting ready for his return and while he is off a break, he can still be effective on the fresh side and I do think he’s a star.

5 Glentaneous (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Team Freedman, having not raced since New Years Day when a dominant winner of the Bagot at Flemington. Likely has eyes on longer targets, Adelaide Cup potentially, maybe Sydney Cup…whatever the case, he’s a talented stayer and commands respect.

7 Flash Feeling (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is two weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he lobbed into a beaut spot on speed and on the turn, he looked all over a winner but couldn’t quite finish it off and was plain in the straight behind Don’t Doubt Dory. Doubt he is good enough to win but a must for exotics I feel.

I think the WA 3YO 11 Hanchi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can measure up. He is part of the Team Casey stable that has come over with Dom To Shoot. He has good talent in his own right, the latest run being over 1200m at Ascot when a fast finishing second to Stormchaser, bloused late. Tick over trial was sharp and with good speed in front, I can see him launching over the top.

7 Midtown Boss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Matt Laurie since racing over 1100m here. He got into a decent spot near the speed and presented to win but had no answers late for the finale of Rey Magnerio. The rise in trip I find interesting but he is a talented animal and third up, he should be hard fit.

8 Von Hauke (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Savabeel for Cliff Brown that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Champions Day at Flemington when racing over the mile and fighting hard but just found one better in Watadeel. 1100m is on the short side for him but he can sprint well fresh and he does find D Lane first up.

I am keen to see 4 Harlow Mist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) resume. John Sargent trained filly that did really nice things in the Spring and her trial work in Sydney indicates she’s ready. First trial was quiet but second trial, they showed intent to lead and she ran a close up third. 1400m fresh signals intent and she has a touch of class/quality.

2 Autumn Angel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a talented filly resuming for Moody/Coleman. This girl is first up, having not raced since the Spring when winning the Ethereal, where she was touted as an Oaks horse but was spelled. Given a good break and while she is better suited over further, she has the quality to take beating against these.

9 Rocking The Boat…(Bet Now:  $SP.00) how good is she? Don’t know til she’s beaten and she hasn’t been defeated yet, debuting with a sharp effort at Sandown when getting the sweet sit in transit before angling clear and finishing best to win and win well. Race fitness on her side and with a good racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.

1 Brave Mead (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a class edge and I think that edge will get him home. He has been kept on ice, having not raced since Australia Day when an all the way winner of the Manfred at this track/distance, beating some quality types. Depth here isn’t as deep and with front end control, he’ll take running down.

2 Maharba (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up for Grahame Begg and has the engine under the hood to measure up. This guy had a solid enough Spring, highlighted by a win at The Valley on Moir Night before placing there in the Red Anchor on Cox Plate Day and was sent for a spell. He has looked pretty good in a couple of jumpouts and is dangerous with a drag into the race.

6 Wolfy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Tivaci for Nick Ryan that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since the Caulfield Guineas where he got back to near last in a slowly run race and did make up ground but was never a winning factor behind Griff. Two solid jumpouts under the belt to get ready and he has a touch of quality about him. Watch the market.

Big, big fan of 5 Caracas (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Team Freedman trained three year old that comes her off the back of an electric win at Pakenham in a maiden where he gave them a start and a beating and despite doing a bit wrong, he had plenty on them. He is a Derby horse for sure…just a matter of which one. Good gate, Zahra sticks…like him a lot.

1 Dunbelievin’ (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat for Ciaron Maher. He ran three weeks ago at this track/distance where he got back off the speed and took a while to wind into his work but was pretty good in the run to the line when third to Justaboom. If he can settle closer and have clear air to wind into his work, he’ll take holding out.

9 Socks Nation (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a leading contender for Ciaron Maher. She was given a 12/10 ride from John Allen to win at The Valley several weeks ago, getting going on the turn to have full momentum and proved strongest late. Lacks the class of some of these, clearly, but she does have race fitness and a strong 1800m is no issue IMO.

10 Foxy Cleopatra (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can improve with a more positive ride. Gate one wasn’t used to advantage two weeks ago in the Carlyon Cup and that took away any chance she had of winning, with eventual winner Yonce getting control in front and was too good but Foxy Cleopatra did make up decent headway. Think with more intent, she’ll take running down.

1 Gold Trip (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a star galloper for Ciaron Maher that resumes. He had a pretty good Spring, highlighted of course by an arrogant triumph in the Turnbull. Couple of jumpouts under the belt to prepare for his return and while 1800m is on the short side for him, in terms of class, he has panels on this lot.

6 El Soleado (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Robbie Laing after winning last Saturday at Flemington, continuing an incredible run he is having. This is clearly a harder assignment, but he’s hard fit, in form and will be strong late.

1 Mr Brightside (Bet Now:  $SP.00) just wins doesn’t he? Enormous return, winning the CF Orr two weeks ago, running through the pain barrier and just kept finding under pressure to fend them off and win. Natural improvement, tempo won’t be as hot, can settle closer, depth not as deep…good luck beating him.

5 Nugget (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality galloper for Ciaron Maher that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since the King Charles lll when back against the pattern and while he was never a threat, he found the line quite well when fourth to a star mare, Fangirl. He’s had three jumpouts under the belt for his return so the grounding is there…something has to place behind Mr Brightside and I dare say he will run second or third.

4 Dom To Shoot (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality WA galloper for Team Casey that resumes. He had a very good Summer prep at Ascot, highlighted by a strong win in the Northerly at Group l level, beating some good types, namely Zaaki. Trialled well at Belmont prior to coming across and he can sprint well fresh. Doubt he wins but a must for multiples.

8 High Octane (Bet Now:  $SP.00) just screams of a typical Team Snowden GF set up. He won the Preview to get into the race. He then went to the Prelude and had a barrier trial it seemed like, tucked in behind the speed and didn’t get clear air at any stage until it was too late but loved the way he closed off. He’ll love a rise to 1200m and with room to move, he’ll take holding out.

4 Coleman (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is clearly likeable here. There was a lot of quality about his first up win in the Chairman’s where he just went through his gears like a good horse and won well. 1200m, you’d think, is fine, and from all reports, he sizzled around here in a piece of work on Tuesday.

7 Traffic Warden (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the sleeper at odds I feel. He resumed three weeks back in the Canonbury at Rosehill where he got a fair way out of his ground and took a while to wind into his work but he was pretty good in the run to the line behind Prost. He gives every impression he’ll eat up 1200m, he has upside/timing and Craig Williams is riding very well.

9 Brudenell (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top for me in an open Oakleigh Plate. Short course specialist that is two weeks between runs since a strong on speed win at Randwick over 1000m, beating a very much in form Derry Grove. He won’t know himself with 52kg on his back, good racing style, tough…only runs well I’d say.

4 Sghirripa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been a real find during the Summer and has earned his crack at Group l level. Two wins on the bounce at Stakes level, firstly in the Christmas Stakes before making a mess of them in the Standish Handicap. Bolted up in a tick over trial at Morphettville and he seemingly can explode when cuddled. Definite chance.

14 Rey Magnerio (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in a nine start career for Griffiths/De Kock. He comes here three weeks between runs since racing over this track/distance, letting down with purpose late from off the speed to win and win well. Clearly a rise in grade/depth here, but he’s very genuine that will be strong late and is hard fit/in form.

10 Eternal Flame…(Bet Now:  $SP.00) sick. Best way to sum up the run last Saturday in the Tressady. She should have bolted in. It was just a horrendous watch in the straight she was bolting for a run but things just didn’t eventuate and it ended up being a rather ugly watch. The win here the start prior was outstanding and off that, she’ll take beating.

2 Wrote To Arataki (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has class on her side and that will carry her a long way. Market took a set against her when she resumed in the Bellmaine at Caulfield and #They got it spot on as she sat on speed and just felt the pinch late in the piece when fourth to Vagrant. Has that run under the belt and is much better suited at 1400m vs 1200m. Leading contender.

6 Party For One (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a good record at 1400m and it looks as though she has been set for the race. Price/Kent trained mare that resumed a few weeks ago in the Bellmaine where she seemingly had every chance in defeat but was simply no match for them late when third to the in form Vagrant. Fitter and getting to her pet distance, she’ll take beating I’d suggest.

NEXT BEST: Race Four Number 1 Brave Mead

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 9 Brudenell
