23/12/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Ted Van Heemst Stakes day

2 Playing Rio (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning but not a whole lot of confidence. Paul Hunter trained gelding that resumed over 1100m at Albany where he was smashed in betting but unfortunately for his fans, he was wide no cover for the trip and that hard run told late in the piece, just losing the bob of the head in a tight finish. Fitter, up in trip, maps ideally, he’ll do me.

12 Elite Fashions (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned in pretty good order for Bernie Miller. This mare was met with good market support when resuming at Bunbury, settling just off the speed before being presented wider and letting down nicely, just running out of condition when third to Masamune. Tricky gate, but the return was strong and the depth here is thin.

9 Kings Call (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m. He debuted over 1200m at Pinjarra where he just looked in need of the run, making up minimal headway behind impressive debut winner Objectify. Not sure I could back him to win but for wider multiples, I can entertain him at a likely decent price.

4 Sinful Baby (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems the straight bat play. Team Pearce trained filly that debuted two weeks ago at this track/distance where she led and gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow second to Define Beautiful. Should find the front here and with the run under the belt, she should be stronger at the end and prove hard to get past.

7 Antz Pantz Baby (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Vital Equine that is on debut for Mitch Pateman. This girl has had two trials to get ready for start one, winning a trial over 400m at Belmont before placing over 950m at Lark Hill and each time she has seemingly moved nicely enough. Tricky draw, but think she has talent so watch the market and see what it does.

8 Noahquintilly (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Playing God filly for David Harrison that is having start. Her debut comes off the back of two trials, both at Lark Hill. Latest trial saw her win over 950m and she won quite well I thought albeit the margin was narrow. Maps okay from what I see and the stable is in form. A win wouldn’t shock at all.

4 Snippy Which (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. Adam Durrant trained three year old that was a noted drifter in betting when resuming over 1000m here two weeks ago and while he didn’t win, he was one of the eye catchers of the meeting, closing off with real purpose late in clocking the best late splits of the race when close up in defeat behind Final Siren. Fitter, up to 1200m, hard to beat if he can settle closer in the run.

2 Happy As Larry (Bet Now:  $SP.00) resumes here for Paul Jordan and I think his best is good enough to be dangerous. He hasn’t raced since Sep 30 when down the track over 1400m at Belmont but was at the end of a long prep and looking a tired horse. Interesting he resumes without a public trial but his best sees him go close here so watch the market.

1 King Cartel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run an improved race for Mitch Pateman. He resumed in the Final Siren race from two weeks back at Ascot where he got a bit lost on the turn when wanting to make his run and he lost momentum, failing to regather it in the straight behind Final Siren. I reckon 1200m sees him right out but against this lot, he should be fine and he can bounce back.

2 Megami (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way to go for me. She ran last Saturday at this track/distance and just couldn’t quite get the clear path to build the revs and win. That said, was she going to win? I am saying no but she should have finished a touch closer. She’s in a purple patch and back a bit in grade/depth, she’s the way I am leaning.

8 Here For Cheques (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Bernie Miller. He steps up to the mile after racing over 1400m here a fortnight back, chasing strongly from off the speed and was hailed as the winner but some Pike wizardry aboard Playz With Fire spoiled the party. Track/distance winner and strikes a winnable race IMO.

7 Climb On Top (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can bounce back. Team Pearce trained gelding that ran over 1400m two weeks back here in the Playz With Fire race. He had a suck run in transit and seemingly had every chance but the connections believe he’s better when racing outside horses, so if that can eventuate here, he can run an improved race.

6 Gift Of The Heart (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the one for me. Roy Rogers trained gelding that ran last Saturday at this track/distance where he sat outside the speed and moved quite well but couldn’t quite get there, just failing to get the win when a narrow second to Count The Sessions. That was his first run in over three months so with room for improvement, good racing style, he’ll take beating.

10 Trade War (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned in outstanding order it seems for Michael Lane. He defied a notable betting drift to win first up at Albany when near the speed and credit to him, he was there to tire late, but he kept on, found and was too good in winning. He has a fab track/distance record and off a first up win, he commands respect.

1 Corn Cob (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver. He resumed last Saturday at this track/distance where he did early work to land on speed and he gave a decent kick but being first up, condition just gave way late behind Magnificent Andy. The depth here is nowhere near as deep and with improvement from the resumption, he’ll be around the mark.

I am convinced that 6 The Velvet Queen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing very well and she looks placed to advantage for the first time this prep. She’s unknown at the trip but I feel is racing as if she will appreciate it. I am very forgiving of her run in the Northerly given she was back and wide throughout, and really just couldn’t get involved. The depth here is nowhere near as deep and the big tick is that from the gate, she can settle much closer in the run.

2 Zoumon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems to really click for Rachel King and she is back on this five year old. He comes through the Northerly where he was wide throughout and just couldn’t get involved, finishing down the track behind Dom To Shoot. Like him up in trip and if he gets control in front, he’ll be extremely hard to get past.

5 Casino Seventeen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous. He was back in trip when racing in the Northerly two weeks back where he was back near last in the run and never threatened, but really liked the way he finished his race off behind Dom To Shoot. Not sure he’s suited at WFA but back up in trip, I think he’s a contender.

2 Playhouse Patron (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top. He’s racing in very good form at the moment without winning, his latest run came two weeks ago over 2100m here when on speed and he gave a very strong kick but he couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed late by a good horse, Demolish. Good racing style, hard fit, in form..he’ll do me.

4 Westozi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) brings Geraldton form but this isn’t an overly deep race. His latest run was over 1925m when back off the speed and kept finding the line in a pretty good effort behind Play With Desire, just missing out on the win. 2100m should be fine for him and in an open contest, I think he commands respect.

8 Bandalera Miss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in with a shout for Fred Kersley. This mare ran in the Demolish race from two weeks back here when ridden with intent to land on speed and she tried hard but the early burn just told late in the piece when down the track behind the Neville Parnham galloper. Good record at the track and can run an improved race with a more conservative steer.

3 Stormy Tawny (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Team Williams and it’s hard to get away from her. She won here two weeks ago over this track/distance, getting the dream run in transit behind the speed before angling clear and Pike got stuck into her when it counted. Loses Pike but I don’t think it matters. She’s flying and there is no suggestion that she is going backwards.

1 Duchess Of Gossip (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been tested at Stakes level and she just didn’t quite measure up well enough. She ran in a couple of Jungle races and yes, was unlucky each time, but last start over 1400m, she seemingly had her chance, so back to benchmark grade and back to 1200m, she’ll take beating.

5 Deetea (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1200m after racing over 1400m three weeks back in the Jungle Dawn where she had every chance from behind the speed but didn’t finish the race off at all behind Baby Paris. Like her back to 1200m and despite a tricky gate for her racing pattern, she has the runs on the board to command some level of respect.

11 Cable Boy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been outstanding in two runs this time in for Steve Wolfe and it is hard to get away from him here. He resumed with a bang when winning at Albany fresh before racing here three weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run and worked home with real purpose late when a close up second to High Pressure. If he can settle closer in the run, I think it could be a case of good luck beating him.

8 Supersession (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Adam Durrant trained gelding that resumed over 1000m here a fortnight back where he got back to near last and spotted those in front a tidy start but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind a promising three year old Hanchi. Like him up to 1200m and hopefully with a drag into the race, he’ll be more effective.

1 Capital Flight (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run an improved race. Market said he had three legs when resuming two weeks back in the Hanchi race mentioned above and ran accordingly after getting a suck run in transit, finishing down the track behind the smart three year old. His best is good enough to win. First four contender.

NEXT BEST: Race Four Number 2 Megami

LONG SHOT: Race One Number 2 Playing Rio
