A strong ten event card has been set down for Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

5 Thankyou Henry (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very progressive animal that resumes, potentially with Winter Carnival aspirations. This guy hasn’t raced since Dec 21 at Eagle Farm when off speed and worked to the line strongly in defeat behind Addriel, who was flying at the time. Trial last Tuesday at Doomben was sharp and goes well on the fresh side. Like him.

8 Deer Trail (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over this track/distance where he paraded like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out behind Termagant. Good upside/improvement to come and has a touch of quality so don’t dismiss him.

12 Instagood (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t win out of turn but I do think she is racing well at present. This mare ran two weeks ago at this track/distance where she got back in the run and while she was never really a threat, she kept finding the line and was quite good in defeat. If she can settle closer, be within range, she can take this out.

6 Diablo Bolt (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat. He comes through the Mayor Vase at the Gold Coast when off speed, making a sustained run and loomed but just found one better in Queen’s Air. Hard fit, racing well and strikes a winnable race for mine.

7 Wapiti (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over the mile last Saturday where he got off speed and while he was never threatening, he kept finding the line in a good effort in defeat behind Tenzing. Back up in trip, thin race, he can threaten.

1 True Marvel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a fascinating runner. Matty Smith trained galloper that hasn’t been seen since the 2023 Melbourne Cup where he ran out of his skin in defeat behind Without A Fight. The form is A1 for this kind of race. it just all depends where he is at re fitness after four trials under the belt.

2 Pretty Dubious (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat off the back of a debut here two weeks ago when attempting to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick from the front but had no answers late for Sunrays. Good upside to come, he’ll take running down.

6 Penrod (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Better Than Ready that is on debut for David Vandyke. He trialled at the Sunny Coast a few weeks ago when winning by a space, running decent time and did it with something in hand. Keen to see how he goes at this level.

It looks like they have caught up with 1 Betterlucknexttime (Bet Now:  $SP.00) and it doesn’t appear as if he has improved much from the Spring, where he looked a little professional and won 2/2, but first up here two weeks back, he had his chance and was quite plain late in the piece behind Sunrays. Fitter, I think he is one to be entertained for exotics.

3 Impervious (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for Tony Gollan. This girl debuted over 800m at Ipswich where she gave them a start and a beating, and was quite impressive from off the speed to win and win well. The rise to 1110m is ideal and with upside/improvement, she appeals.

1 Sunrays (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is unbeaten in two career outings and looks smart after a win here two weeks ago, giving them a start and a beating and was impressive the way she put them away late despite being a bit green. Tricky draw, but has to be respected.

5 Lonesome Soul (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one I can entertain for exotics. She ran behind Sunrays two weeks back here when back off the speed and was never really a factor but the winner does look above average so the form reads well and back to her own sex, she can run an improved race at odds.

2 Lionel… (Bet Now:  $SP.00) last chance for me otherwise it is a life ban. He ran here three weeks ago where Harley made a mid race move to find the lead, got rolling and kicked strongly but just felt the pinch late in the piece when a close up fourth to Chassagne. He’s knocking on the door and strikes a winnable race.

9 Texas Fireball (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form for Matty Dunn and he can go on with it. That win came over 1700m at the Gold Coast last time when getting the sweet sit in behind before angling clear and drove hard late to win. He’ll get off speed but be strong at the end.

8 Tuhinga (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is two weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he got back off the speed and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was solid enough in defeat I thought behind Just Flying. If he can use the inside gate to advantage, he’s dangerous at odds.

6 Mintaka Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should take beating for David Vandyke after racing three weeks ago at this track/distance when off speed and chased strongly but just found one better in Volcanic Love. Hard fit, saves his best for this track/distance, rates highly for me.

13 Hellish (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a horse with good talent for Clinton Taylor. He was heavily backed and Winx odds when resuming at Rockhampton and despite being out of petrol tickets late, he had enough in hand and class kicked in when it mattered. Improvement to come, good racing style, takes beating.

17 Redzoust (Bet Now:  $SP.00) takes beating here I say off the back of his effort at Doomben three weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run but really liked the way he closed off late in the piece when a close up fifth to Volcanic Love. If he can be within range, he has the finale to win.

1 Astapor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good colt and confident he can take care of these. He is back with Clinton Taylor after a stint with Joe Pride where he was tested at Stakes level and was just fair without jumping up and down. Trial at Rockhampton was quite sharp and at his best, he’s a brilliant short course type at this level.

7 Cosmo Centaurus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is unbeaten in two career outings with a spell in between. He resumed several weeks ago over 1000m at the Sunny Coast when on speed and powered clear late to win and win well. Tricky draw, but will press forward and beware the unbeaten horse.

5 Petticoat (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improving type for Brett Dodson off the back of an effort three weeks ago here over 1200m, attempting to lead throughout but just found six furlongs a bridge too far, especially off a break. Back to 1110m, she appeals.

9 Hatchet (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat. Three weeks between runs since racing over this track/distance when off speed but got clear and chased with purpose in the straight in a good effort in defeat I thought behind Safework. He can be ridden with more intent, he’s hard fit and loves racing here.

3 King Kapa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat off the back of his effort three weeks ago at this track/distance, sitting on speed throughout and showed good fight in the straight but just couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed late by Safework. Good racing style, he commands respect.

2 At Witz End (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable. He lumped 63kg at the Gold Coast last time where he got off speed, was run off his legs, but I really liked the way he closed off late in the piece behind Flaming Conquest. Fitter and up to 1200m, weight relief, he appeals as a knockout hope.

14 Zoology (Bet Now:  $SP.00) takes beating for Ciaron Maher. He comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Jan 18 at Eagle Farm behind Golden Decade when off speed and chased strongly but couldn’t quite get there. Tick over trial was strong and strikes a race where it is very winnable for him.

1 Corfe Castle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. He won three weeks ago at this track/distance, getting the beaut run and drove hard late to finish best in a blanket finish. He welcomed the drop back in grade/depth and with winning form, he is hard to beat once again.

8 Space Tracker (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when getting into a sweet sit in transit behind the speed before angling clear and knuckled down strongly but just found one better in Corfe Castle. He has found positive form and is hard fit now, he appeals.

5 Flying Trapeze (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems the straight bat play for Gary Portelli. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when on speed throughout and was there to win but couldn’t get there, proving no match for Dune Forty Five. He has that 1600m run under the belt, good racing style, he appeals against these.

2 Dune Forty Five (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it. He was a dominant all the way winner a fortnight back here, giving them no chance of running him down with front end control and gave nothing else a look in. He is flying and takes beating.

12 Red Top (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best. He ran behind Dune Forty Five two weeks back here. He got a fair way out of his ground against the race shape but worked to the line well enough in defeat I thought. If he can settle closer, be within range, he’s dangerous enough to win.
