21/8/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick, Winx Stakes day

Group l racing for the 2021/22 season kicks off this Saturday at Randwick with a crack field assembled for the Winx Stakes (1400m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

6 Without Shame (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) is a talented animal for Sue Grills that I am confident can measure up to Highway grade. Resumed over 1000m at Gunnedah and worked home strongly from off the speed when a narrow second to Sportsman. Gets a significant jockey upgrade and the bigger track, extra 100m, should prove hard to beat.

1 Baby Wong (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) should be suited here for Stephen Jones. I think connections have realised he is probably not up to blacktype level and with Highways worth $100,000, now is the right time of the year to strike for a colt like this, who was good from off the speed when third to Sky Command last time. Hard to beat with upside.

4 Very Sharp (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) is three weeks between runs for Rod Northam since racing in a Class 3 Highway here where she drifted back from the wide gate and worked home okay without threatening behind Sunrise Ruby. Like her back to 1100m and back to a Class 2, she can bounce back.

6 Accountability (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) must be showing something at home. Chris Waller stayer that was putrid last Saturday at Kembla where J Mac rode. Despite being beaten 20+ lengths, J Mac sticks, Waller backs him and Blinkers go on, so I’d watch the market and see what it does.

9 Terwilliker (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is an Anthony Cummings trained stayer that is racing well without winning this time in but finds a winnable race. Tried hard two weeks back at this track/distance when off the speed and didn’t stop chasing in a good effort behind the in form Harpo Marx. Hard to beat I’d suggest.

1 Spencer (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) has been up a little while but is holding his form okay. Comes through the Harpo Marx race from a fortnight back where he ran his usual honest race despite seemingly having every chance behind the stablemate. Not sure I could back him to win but one for multiples.

7 Majella (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) has come back in super order for Matty Smith. Close up fresh on the Kenso track behind Kinloch. She then raced last Wednesday at Newcastle where she looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted under Collett. She should appreciate the rise to the mile and is hard to beat.

3 Foxborough (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) should appreciate the rise to the mile. John Sargent trained mare that resumed over 1300m her three weeks back in a Midway. Was never really a threat from where she was in the run but was good late behind Ashman in an on pace domination. Fitter, up in trip, she can prove a leading contender.

11 Tampering (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is a Kerry Parker trained gelding that was met with strong market support when resuming over 1400m on his home track at Kembla, clearly someone knowing something, and the market got it spot on as he was too good. He is better suited up in trip and should have upside to come.

10 California Longbow (Bet Now: $17.00 TOP ODDS) looks to be in for a good prep for Team Snowden. Resumed over 1500m at Randwick several weeks back and closed off his race with real purpose in a good effort behind Wairere Falls, finishing second. Fitter and up in trip, I think he’s hard to beat.

7 Wairere Falls (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) has found winning form and I think he can go on with it now. Lovely ride by J Mac saw him bolt up at Randwick three weeks ago. Lobbed into a beaut spot behind the speed and once the button was pushed, away he went and he was dominant. He can win again.

6 Cognac (Bet Now: $19.00 TOP ODDS) could be back on track. This import has mainly looked like a donkey since arriving from the UK but last start behind Wairere Falls, he was more than encouraging in a positive sign. If he can build off that, I think he is in with a shout here as a first four prospect.

8 More Prophets (Bet Now: $3.90) can bounce back. John Thompson trained mare that had one soft trial leading into her resumption here two weeks back and I just think she lacked that base to fire fresh behind Starla, her condition giving out late. You’d like to think she’s got improvement to come and second up last prep was good late in the Dark Jewel behind Rocha Clock.

6 Turnstyle (Bet Now: $11.00) is a very honest mare for Bjorn Baker that is bursting to win a Saturday metro race. She just can’t quite see out a strong 1200m, which has been the reason why she has been run down her past couple, the latest being two weeks ago by Starla, an in form mare. Hard to beat I’d suggest.

12 Geist (Bet Now: $7.50) is a talented mare for James Cummings that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Autumn Carnival when close up in the James Carr behind All Hallow’s Eve. Not a noted fresh performer and only has one soft trial to get ready, but has a touch of class when right.

1 Four Moves Ahead (Bet Now: $1.95) clearly on top for me. High class filly that resumes for John Sargent. It was an interrupted Autumn for her, with injury being the reason for that. Smashed the clock when winning the Sweet Embrace before a game fourth in the Slipper. Easy in hindsight, but she shouldn’t have run in the Sires. She was a tired horse. Loved her trial here, when closing off with purpose against the big boys and girls.

6 Swift Witness (Bet Now: $7.50) is a quality filly for the WaterBott camp that resumes. She had a mixed 2YO season, but did run a closing second in the Reisling before being outclassed in the Slipper. Led throughout to win a trial here and the piece of work was solid. Hard to beat from on speed.

2 Glistening (Bet Now: $19.00) is first up here for Team Freedman and is a first four threat. She won the Reisling, which earned her a crack at the Slipper where she failed to measure up. Has had a couple of trials to get ready and hasn’t exactly set the world on fire so watch the yard and the market.

6 Prime Star (Bet Now: $5.50) looks to be in for a really good prep to my eye. Team Freedman trained four year old that resumes. He has always been around the mark as a Stakes class horse but looks to have come back super based on his trial work, where he looks to have really filled out and matured. Keen to see how he goes.

1 Splintex (Bet Now: $4.00) will look the winner for a fair chunk of this race. Game effort in the Doomben 10,000 before being very plain at Eagle Farm, I dare say not handling the track. Returns home with residual fitness and has trialled well. Should lead this field up and give an almighty sight.

11 Hightail (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Team Snowden trained gelding that was far from disgraced in the Healy during the Brisbane Winter. Then freshened up and ran in the Missile. He was back near last in the run in what was pretty much a barrier trial, so forget he went around. Convinced he’s going well and a win wouldn’t shock.

I think the days of underestimating 2 Think It Over (Bet Now: $7.00) are indeed over. He proved in the Autumn he can match it with the big boys and girls, winning the George Ryder and then running a great fourth in the Queen Elizabeth. Two trials leading in have been super, lands in a plum spot, dry tracker, genuine…happy to back each way.

The bone dry deck is a slight worry, but the class and champion qualities of 12 Verry Elleegant (Bet Now: $3.30) nearly enough to get her home. She has the runs on the board. Champion mare that kicks off another prep and this prep, it’s all about the Cox Plate, so I suspect she’ll have more speed in the legs compared to first up 12 months ago, and with that in mind, she’s clearly hard to beat.

14 Hungry Heart (Bet Now: $14.00) for Chris Waller. She’s a star I think, on dry ground only. That is what she gets on Saturday and though just one trial to get ready, she looked to be trucking in the run. If she can hold a spot from the draw and be within range, gee I think she’ll be dangerous.

Happy to have a throw at the stumps via 7 Great News (Bet Now: $10.00). Does she have the class to beat some of these? I’d say no, but gee whiz, her trial at Wyong was one of the best you’ll see. Jumped on the bunny, ran, and she was under an absolute hold in doing so, winning by a space. To me, she is trained and primed for a first up crack at blacktype.

12 Lillemor (Bet Now: $19.00) is an absolute beauty for John O’Shea. She has really come of age in recent times, and comes into this as a last start Stakes winner having won the Gai Waterhouse at Ipswich. Trialled very well behind Fituese to get ready for her return and she is a sharp sprinter so 1100m is a positive.

6 Every Rose (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Mark Newnham trained mare that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Autumn Carnival when down the track against her own age/sex in the PJ Bell during The Championships. Good fresh horse and closed off well I thought behind Fituese in a recent trial.

5 Academy (Bet Now: $9.00) has the run under the belt and gets much needed weight relief. Resumed here a fortnight back where he was heavily fancied by the market due to a potential soft lead. He got that, but couldn’t sprint with them behind Kingshier. His best is clearly good enough.

8 Bigboyroy (Bet Now: $3.70) is a key threat. Chris Waller trained gelding that resumed four weeks ago at Rosehill where he looked the winner when J Mac pushed the button, only to just fail in getting past Frosty Rocks, who has won again since. Form reads well, good record at the track and J Mac sticks.

2 New Arrangement (Bet Now: $16.00) should prove hard to beat here for Chris Waller. Ran over 1400m at Randwick three weeks ago when back in the run and closing off strongly late when second to Mirra Vision. A repeat effort of that last start effort will see him prove a leading contender.
