Ten races will be run and won at Randwick this Saturday for Civic Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

5 Aix En Provence (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has promised to be a nice horse for some time and off the first up win, this could be the prep he goes on with it. That win came at Newcastle where he found a testing track but he got better as the race went on and was impressive. Keen to see how he goes.

4 Piraeus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been up a little while but is holding his form pretty well. He ran in the Midway here two weeks back where he got too far out of his ground but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off in defeat. If within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.

6 Hooligan Tommy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in career best form for John Sargent and is one of the key threats. He is three weeks between runs since a dominant win over the mile at Kembla where he gave them a start and a beating, getting better as the race went on. Keen to see how he goes.

3 Exit Fee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks prepped right up for a first up showing. He resumes for Danny Williams, having not raced since March 1 here in a Highway behind Speck after sitting four wide the trip. Given a good break and his trial work has been excellent. Hard to beat.

1 Shropshire Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00), I think, should be fine at 1200m. Two 1100m runs to start this prep, winning first up during the Scone Carnival before going to the Highway here two weeks ago when off speed and loomed large but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second. Hard fit, 1200m, he appeals.

16 Show ‘Em Howl (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Robert Agnew trained three year old that resumes, having not raced since Jan 31 when down the track and looked a tired horse in a Country Championships Preview at Taree. Given a good break, trialled up very well, watch betting.

4 Brave One (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing at Rosehill when on speed throughout and he tried hard from near the front but had no answers late for Kerguelen. Fitter, like him up in trip and with a more patient steer, he’ll be more effecetive.

5 Secure (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is 2/2 this time in and has to be respected. He reusmed with a maiden win at Canterbury before going to Warwick Farm where the margin was narrow, but the win had good merit. Hard to knock the way he’s racing at the moment.

3 Bengal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in a purple patch for Luke Pepper and is one of the hardest to beat after a Highway win a fortnight back here and credit to him, he was there to be beaten by Shropshire Lad but he found under perssure to fend them off and win. 1300m is fine, leading contender.

1 Belle Savoir (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable. She ran in the VOBIS Gold Mile at Flemington a fortnight back where the race shape wasn’t relaly to her liking and I also think she lacked the class behidn Oh Too Good. Much better suited at this level, she’s an improver.

8 Gentileschi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks suited up to 1800m for the Messara/Gavranich camp after racing over the mile here two weeks ago where the race shape was against her but she kept finding and was pretty good in defeat. Hard fit now, up to a more ideal trip, she takes beating IMO.

2 Seafall (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting towards peak fitness and should appreciate 2000m. She ran behind Half Yours three weeks back at Rosehill. She got too far back in the run and while she did make up ground, she was never really a factor. If she is within range, she has the finale to take this out.

11 Hopper (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat for Peter Snowden after a second at Rosehill three weeks ago. He got off speed before being presented clear air and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Mickey’s Medal. He was 1300m to 1500m there so 1600m is fine and IMO is one of the hardest to beat.

3 Interjection (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was four weeks between runs when racing over 1500m a few weeks back. He got into a decent spot in transit and tried hard but just lacked the killer blow and whacked to the line. Not sure he is good enough to win but can run top four.

10 Fiorsum Fred (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in two runs back and commands respect. He was a strong winner of the Highway first up at Scone before going to the Gunnedah Cup where he spotted the leader and eventual winner Osman too much head start but really liked the way he closed off in defeat. He can threaten.

10 Quantum Cat (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back in trip and with firmer footing on the card, I think he’s the one. He ran four weeks ago over 2000m here when off speed and did track up with purpose but once let down, the wheels were spinning. Fresh legs, firmer footing, 1800m, he is the one I think.

4 Zaphod (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes through the Zaphod race from four weeks back where was another that struggled on the wet track and couldn’t quite get involved. He is much better suited on firmer footing here and his best is good enough to be dangerous.

1 Salt Lake City (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one for exotics. He ran behind Loch Eagle two weeks back where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he stuck on and was pretty good in defeat. Not sure he wins but is a first four contender.

2 Gitalong (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Team Hayes. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when on speed throughout and he tried so hard but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Storm The Ramparts. Racing well and is hard to beat against these.

6 Lulumon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks dangerous back to 1000m after racing over 1200m at Rosehill a few weeks ago where she got back off speed and tried hard but struggled to run out the six furlongs. Back to a fast run 1000m, she’s dangerous.

11 Iron Will (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. He ran third to Storm The Ramparts two weeks back here. He got into a decent spot in transit and tried hard but just lacked the finale to put them away. Not sure he wins but is a must for exotics.

9 Captain Amelia (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat here I say. She ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat. Likely spots them a start again but should be strong late. Just needs to settle closer.

6 Oh Diamond Lil (Bet Now:  $SP.00) finds firmer footing and I suspect is a big improver. She ran over this track/distance a fortnight back when leading and tried hard but when asked for the effort, she was a bit on the plain side late. Firmer deck, and I think with a bunny to chase, she’ll be more effective.

10 Defining (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m after resuming over 1300m at Warwick Farm where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. Has run well at Randwick previously so I am not dismissing her.

21 Raikkonen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me, provided he gets a run. He comes here for Bjorn Baker off the back of a Fred Best run where he was enormous in defeat given the work he did in the run and to be honest, he wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Stradbroke. That reads very well for this.

13 Headley Grange (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has earned a crack at Stakes grade after a dominant win here a fortnight back where he was $1.01 in the run. Just a matter of getting clear air and once he did, away he went and won well. Good upside to come, he’s in the mix.

10 Estadio Mestalla (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver up in trip for Joe Pride. He resumed in the Headley Grange race mentioned above here he just found them a bit sharp but he stayed on and was pretty good in defeat I thought. Might need another run and further, but his best is good enough.

19 Kerguelen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned in very good order for James Cummings and is one of the hardest to beat. He resumed three weeks ago at Rosehill where he looked to be absolutely trucking in the run and once McEvoy clicked him up, away he went and he was too good. Good upside to come, he’s the one to beat.

3 Pereille (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has class on his side. He ran over 1300m here two weeks ago behind Headley Grange where he got a fair way out of his ground but really liked the way he closed his race off in defeat. Back in trip I like and if he can get a drag into the race, he’s dangerous.

9 Battleton (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver for Bjorn Baker. He resumed over 1100m at Canterbury where he just found them too sharp but didn’t mind his finale in defeat behind World Alliance. Fitter, bigger track, he’s an improver.

NEXT BEST: Race Two Number 3 Exit Fee

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 9 Captain Amelia
