Race 1. (12:20) Petaluma Hcp 1000m
Siding with 1 Coincide (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get too involved in. This colt had two Spring runs, debuting with a second in the Kirkham Plate before a down the track effort in the Golden Gift, doing plenty wrong. Given a good break and has trialled up well in readiness for the return. Should land on speed and prove hard to get past.
3 Don Corleone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He looked one of the better juveniles at the official 2YO trials in the early part of the Spring before being spelled. He’s had two trials this time in and hasn’t been as dynamite as the first trial in the Spring but this stable are very good with their juveniles and the latest trial was over 1050m so the grounding is there for a forward showing.
4 Fleetwood (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a James Cummings trained colt that is on debut. He trialled in October and was fair so the stable spelled him. He then trialled here last week and I thought moved very well late under minimal pressure to run fourth. I think he’ll be one of the strongest late if they go silly in front, and with this camp, they do need to be respected with their juveniles.
Race 2. (12:55) Midway (Bm72) 1600m
9 Crafty Eagle (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a promising three year old for John Thompson that I am confident can measure up here. Not sure he beat much at Gosford last time and wasn’t suited by the tight track but class got him home and he was sharp once he balanced up in the straight. Good test here stepping up to Midway grade and he’s on the up and will be strong late.
5 Chateaux Park (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one I could entertain for wider multiples. Jason Coyle trained gelding that ran two weeks back at Rosehill where he got a fair way out of his ground and was never a threat but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind the well tried Bazooka, who was given a 12/10 to win. Off the effort prior behind Kanazawa here, he can certainly win this without shocking.
8 Lovetheinvasion (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) might want one more but I think she has returned in pretty good order. She resumed in the Midway won by Excelladus two weeks back where Tommy rode her forward, which was a sign of intent, and loomed, but first up off one soft trial, condition just gave way. She does get better as the prep goes on but off the return, she is certainly in with a shout.
Race 3. (13:30) Tab Highway (C2) 1100m
3 Sparring (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will likely be suspect at the end of 1100m but he will give a stack of cheek. He comes here off the back of a win at metro level, with sustained speed seeing him win over 1000m at The Valley where he was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure to fend them off and win. This stable are very good when placing them in town so he commands some level of respect.
4 Gallant Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Brett Robb trained three year old that resumes. This guy had a three run Winter prep as a juvenile to start his career, winning the first two before coming to town here when third to Midnight In Tokyo. Like most here, he has eyes on the Country Championships, and with two trials under the belt, the grounding is there to run a forward race.
12 A Guinea (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be suited here for Scott Singleton. Trialled up quite well prior to resuming in a Highway at Randwick a few weeks back and worked to the line strongly late in the piece when fourth to Just In Reach, beaten just over a length. Is a second up winner and I think with a more positive steer, he can run a much improved race.
Race 4. (14:05) Furphy (Bm88) 2000m
If there is no second up syndrome, it could well be a case of how far 5 Almania (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). This gelding was first up since November 2020 when racing here three weeks ago over the mile and I thought he was fabulous from the back, rocketing to the line late behind Jojo Was A Man. Any hint of upside, and really, I think he has a bit on this lot. Keen on his prospects.
7 Mahagoni (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), I think, will be okay at 2000m. David Payne trained gelding that ran over 1800m at Rosehill two weeks back and I thought was given a peach by Gibbons. Tracked up nicely and was there to pounce but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to the hard fit Logan Street Lion. The little query is 2000m but I think with a soft ride and change up speed, he’ll be effective.
10 Oceanic Flash (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win. Looked like that win would come at Randwick three weeks ago where he loomed large to win but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to a hard fit and in form Too Much Caviar. That was his second run at 2000m for the prep so he should be hard fit now and if he holds his form, he should be around the mark.
Race 5. (14:40) Grainshaker Vodka (Bm72) 1100m
11 Lucky Variety (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can certainly measure up here for Kris Lees and is worth a throw at the stumps. Would have been a good thing beaten at Gosford last time if she didn’t get clear but thankfully for her fans, she got the run and dashed late for a strong win. Fast run 1100m looks ideal and down in the weights, soft gate, I think she only runs well.
5 Passegiata (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has great sustained speed from the front, which holds her in good stead here. 2/2 to start her career, winning on debut at Gosford before proving that was no fluke with an all the way win at Rosehill where she was there to be run down late but found under pressure to fend them off and win. Last bit will test but she will give herself every chance.
4 Baroque Road (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Maher/Eustace trained gelding that resumes. This guy did a very good job as a juvenile late in the Winter. Dominant debut win on the Kenso track before going to Rosehill where he bumped into what I think will be a Group l winner this year, Osipenko. Been given a good break and his recent Rosehill trial was a good piece of work, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 6. (15:20) Carrington Stakes 1400m
1 Looks Like Elvis (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is hard to beat here I’d suggest. He’s had two runs back from a spell, both in Victoria. Latest run was on New Years Day at Flemington in the Chester Manifold when good late from off the speed and covering ground, just missing out on the win behind Corner Pocket. That form does appear to read quite well and overall, this isn’t an overly strong Stakes race.
Good test here for 6 Vreneli (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) but he has earned a crack given the form he is in at the moment. Super win two weeks ago at Rosehill when leading throughout. Bayliss rode a positive race from the outset and he was there to be run down but he kicked strongly when asked and safely held his rivals at bay. The time, relative to the day, was outstanding, and with his racing style, he’ll take beating.
5 Snippy Fox (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is getting towards D-Day I feel. Bit on the plain side first up behind I Am Me before going to Rosehill two weeks back where they rode her with more intent and she found the line okay but was still safely held by stablemate Titanium Power. Third up from a spell and a little bit of cushion in the track, I think she gets a great chance to run a much improved race.
Race 7. (16:00) Fujitsu General (Bm78) 1600m
10 Elettrica (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is absolutely bursting to win a race for Joe Pride. Last couple of runs have come over 1400m at Warwick Farm, the latest one being last Wednesday and she should have won. Just had no luck when Schiller was probing for clear air and it was just an ugly watch. She is flying and I do think getting to the mile on the big track will be a massive tick for her. She’ll do me.
7 Lekvarte (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) appeals against this lot. Has been kept on ice sine the Belle Of The Turf at Gosford where she didn’t get much luck at a vital stage and should have finished much closer behind all the way winner Deny Knowledge. Strong win here the start prior and the run last time proved that the mile is ideal and back to benchmark grade, she’s hard to beat.
4 Tinnie Winnie (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a daughter of So You Think for Chris Waller that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since July 30 at Rosehill when producing an end of prep run behind Elusive Jewel, who was flying at the time. She’s had a couple of 1000m+ trials to get ready for her return and that tells me that resuming at 1600m, the work has been put in to run well, so watch the market.
Race 8. (16:40) The Agency Real Estate (Bm78) 1400m
2 Kettle Hill (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) deserves another look. Former UK galloper that has had two runs in Australia, really catching the eye first up at Sandown before going here where he looked a moral on paper but the market drift suggested he wasn’t 100% and he ran accordingly, pulling up with a slow recovery post race. Off the first up effort, he has to take beating against these, so give him another look.
10 Nicci’s Fling (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Gary Portelli and can certainly take this out. Ran in a strong 88 at Rosehill two weeks ago where she was sitting back in a race dominated on speed by Vrenelli. Nicci’s Fling tried to make headway but was never really a threat. Much better suited at this level and off prior efforts, she can certainly take this race out.
3 Al Mah Haha (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a sneaky chance at a big price. Forgive the run behind Cuban Royale at Randwick three weeks back given he was wide no cover for the trip and actually didn’t do a bad job to stick on like he did, just feeling the pinch late. If he can get a more economical run in transit this time around, he can be quite dangerous.
Race 9. (17:20) Ranvet (Bm88) 1600m
7 Star Sparks (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the leader and better for the first up run, he appeals for sure. Resumed two weeks ago at Rosehill where he was on speed throughout and gave a strong kick but just felt the pinch late behind Bazooka. Gets good weight relief, T Clark on board, should find the front and get some level of control. From there, I think he’ll take beating.
1 Bullfinch (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is absolutely bursting to win another race. He tried his guts out here three weeks ago and was there to win but couldn’t quite get past the hard fit and in form Jojo Was A Man. This looks a race well within his reach, he’s hard fit and despite not winning, he is flying. He’s a while between wins but he gets a golden chance here.
5 Bold Mac (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect here. Chris Waller trained gelding that was very safe in betting a fortnight back at Rosehill and was there to win but couldn’t dash when required behind Vrenelli, who got it cheap in front and was much too good. This guy is much better suited at the mile and he does fly second up so he has a bit in his corner to run a much improved race.
Race 10. (17:55) Tab (Bm78) 1100m
16 Narito (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order for Chris Waller. Resumed at this track/distance two weeks ago where he was chasing from the outset, and given he was first up, he could have spat the dummy out, but he kept finding the line and was very good in defeat I thought behind Passeggiata. Has that run under the belt and provided there is no second up syndrome, he’s hard to beat.
11 Po Kare Kare (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quirky horse but when things fall into place, she has a motor on her. Resumed a few weeks ago at Randwick where she had the suck run in behind the speed and given her quirky style, Nash cuddled and cuddled before pushing the button and that was the winning move given she only has a short, sharp burst. Unbeaten second up record and if she gets a similar ride/run to last start, she’ll take beating once again.
14 Diamond Dealer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will put herself on speed and give herself every chance. That is what she did at the midweeks at Canterbury last time and was there to be run down but she found plenty under pressure to fend them off and win well. Right down in the weights and drawn soft, she’s in with a shout despite needing to improve to beat the first two.
