Morphettville Parks is where SA racing will take place on Saturday for a handy eight event meeting. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out four metres for the remainder.
Race One (12:55) : James Boags Premium Plate 1000m:
Back Me: 1 Eclair Sunshine (Bet Now: $1.40) is an All Too Hard gelding that debuts for the Phillip Stokes stable. This youngster has trialled twice leading in for his debut, the latest coming here when running second and looking to do it nicely. I think youngsters that have had two trials leading up to their first start generally perform well so he goes on top for me.
Big Danger: 5 Carusmatic (Bet Now: $5.50) debuted down the straight on Cup Day and was well back throughout yet made up some ground late in the piece when midfield to Invincible Star. The trial prior was pretty good to the eye and from the look of it, this is a thin race, so I think she only has to bring that debut effort to be very competitive here.
Long Shot: 4 Sharp Diamond (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Showcasing colt on debut for the Tony McEvoy yard. He ran fourth in a trial here on November 4 behind stablemate Vinland, who was really good in defeat at Sandown. Second horse in the trial was Eclair Sunshine. Needs to improve a touch to beat that horse I suspect, but you can’t ignore any juvenile McEvoy saddles up.
Race Two (13:31) : Wolf Blass & Associates Handicap (70) 1250m:
Back Me: 2 North Sky (Bet Now: $2.60) was very safe in the market when racing in a maiden on Cup Day on the course proper and after a lovely steer from off the pace by Matty Neilson, the horse proved too good for his rivals. That was his first in nearly a month, so he should have upside in the tank and despite taking on some handy types here, I think he can measure up.
Big Danger: 1 Posh Journey (Bet Now: $1.60) is one of the form gallopers in Adelaide at the moment, winning her last two, the latest coming in a four horse field over this track/distance when beating home Mr Markou and Najmaat, both capable three year olds in their own right. Creeping up in the weights, but she’s hard fit and in super form so it’s hard to ignore her.
Long Shot: 4 Almadram (Bet Now: $34.00) is an Al Maher gelding that debuted over 1300m here in the Winter and quite frankly was awful. Been given a decent break and his latest trial here was encouraging, though ridden hard, he found the line. Doubt he can win, but perhaps one for exotics.
Race Three (14:06) : Gary Radford Family Handicap (82) 1950m:
Big Danger: 5 One For Max (Bet Now: $7.00) was ridden a bit too cute at this track/distance two back before backing up seven days later on the course proper and he was ridden aggressively on speed for a narrow yet strong and determined victory. You have to let him roll along, because he has no turn of foot, so if that eventuates here, he’ll take some stopping.
Big Danger: 1 Royal Rumble (Bet Now: $2.25) ran over the mile on the course proper last time out where he was really good against the on speed tempo when closing off strongly to run third to Dylanson. The claim for Caboche means that he is so well weighted given his form and the step up in trip will only. The negative is the price. Even money is too short.
Long Shot: 4 Majestic Moment (Bet Now: $16.00) resumed over the mile on the course proper a fortnight back where he looked in need of the run when finishing last behind Stakes winner Dylanson. He does have a tidy second up record and this is a significant drop in grade. Big improver if he brings something near his best form because this race, outside the top tip, is thin.
Race Four (14:41) : Hughes Chauffeured Limousines Maiden Plate 1400m:
Back Me: 3 Fast ‘N’ Rolling (Bet Now: $4.20) was an alarming drifter when resuming over this track/distance three weeks back and that market fluc proved spot on as he didn’t show the form he had in the Winter and was disappointing when running third to the well backed Just A Bigger Dash. He should take good improvement from that outing, and on his form from last prep, gee he should be winning this.
Big Danger: 1 Billet Doux (Bet Now: $4.50) ran second in that Just A Bigger Dash race and I thought his effort was very good, coming from well back in the run and finishing his race off with real purpose. He probably doesn’t have as much upside as the top tip, but he is only third up himself and he too has Stakes form from prep one. He’s the main threat.
Long Shot: 6 Unrelated (Bet Now: $8.50) debuted over 1200m on the course proper a fortnight back where he got back in the ruck and worked home okay late in the piece behind the above average filly Sweet Varden, who did beat home Billet Doux a couple of times last prep, so that form is easy to tie in. He is a horse who has a stack of upside and the extra furlong is a big tick.
Race Five (15:17) : Consolidated Plant & Quarries Handicap (82) 1400m:
Back Me: 6 The Ten Bob (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Warrnambool visitor who comes to Adelaide in ripping form. He won well two back on his home track over stablemate and subsequent winner Written Era before going to Geelong where he sat on speed and fought on well behind London Fog in what looked a race with a bit of depth. Back to 1400m suits and this does look a very winnable race if he brings his best.
Long Shot: 5 Pepper The Pin (Bet Now: $2.90) ran over 1300m here three weeks back where he had really good support and though attempting to lead all the way, he felt the pinch late behind Lord Aspen, who of course came out and won on Stakes Day at Flemington, so that form reads very well and perhaps taking a sit might be best suited for him.
Long Shot: 2 Ustinov’s Fury (Bet Now: $3.00) loved the drop in grade when racing at Port Lincoln last time out, leading all the way at a strong tempo and he bolted in. That would do his confidence the world of good, and it looks as though he’ll get a very comfortable lead if Eran Boyd forces the issue to Pepper The Pin. Major threat with a cheap sectional.
Race Six (15:52) : C A Haigh Memorial Handicap (90) 1250m:
Back Me: 6 Mio Dio (Bet Now: $1.90) was once just known as a wet tracker but gee Dan Clarken has got this bloke absolutely flying at the moment, winning his past two in very impressive fashion on firm tracks and each time he has really savaged the line. He’d be a good thing if we get rain, but even without that, he is clearly the horse to beat.
Big Danger: 8 Counter Spin (Bet Now: $4.80) hasn’t raced since September 24 when racing over this track/distance and finishing down the track behind stablemate Pepper The Pin, who has gone on to better things since. He is a bit of a dud when produced fresh, but stable is going really well and he does have a very good record when racing on the Parks track.
Long Shot: 2 Brimarvi Prince (Bet Now: $20.00) ran over 1050m on the course proper a fortnight back where he sat back in the run and pretty much just stayed there behind in form sprinter Bay Road. He is a four time winner on the Parks track and I think he might be looking for further than the short course now, so 1250m will help his winning claims.
Race Seven (16:32) : Schweppes Handicap (70) 1550m:
Back Me: 7 Devilishly (Bet Now: $4.20) is a mare in really good for the Hayes/Dabernig stable. She ran over this track/distance three weeks back and looked a little unlucky behind Mail It In given she didn’t get much room in the straight when the winner had all the momentum. That horse did come out to win last week so the form has held up, and there doesn’t appear to be as much depth here, so she is clearly on top for me here.
Big Danger: 5 On A Dream (Bet Now: $12.00) won well over the mile on the course proper before contesting that Mail It In race mentioned above where he sat wide most of the way and just tired over the concluding stages behind stablemate Mail It In. The key to this horse is getting cover and not exposing him early, because he doesn’t have a great finishing burst. He’s quirky, but talented and looks the main threat.
Long Shot: 1 Beau’s My Boy (Bet Now: $8.50) was awful in that Mail It In race before backing up seven days later over the mile on the course proper where he had really good market support and aided by a super on speed ride from Eran Boyd, the gelding bolted up. Not quite as dynamic on the Parks track, but I think he can go on with it now he has got the win under the belt.
Race Eight (17:12) : Penna Michael Chartered Accountants Handicap (75) 1000m:
Back Me: 3 Itz Invincible (Bet Now: $3.80) is an above average gelding for Michael Seyers who proved too nippy for his rivals over 1100m on the course proper a fortnight back, aided by a lovely ride from apprentice Dyan Caboche. Back to 1000m is a big tick for him and his lone run here saw him run second in a race where there has been subsequent Stakes form.
Big Danger: 8 One More Daisy (Bet Now: $6.00) is a mare in super form at the moment. She ran over 1100m on the course proper on Cup Day where she sat off the speed with cover before Jeff Maund presented her wider and she let down hard over the final furlong to win impressively. She does seem to go better on the Parks track also, so that only aids her winning claims and given that was her first run in over three weeks, there should be improvement.
Long Shot: 4 Risen From Doubt (Bet Now: $13.00) is the clear watch horse. Just put a pen through last prep. Ridden upside down first up at Flemington before struggling to pick his feet up on the bottomless track next time before being tipped out. No trials, so fitness levels are unknown, but he gets a firm track and speed in front of him. If he brings any kind of his best form, he’d spank these, and the $13 is a crazy price.
Race Nine (17:52) : MAC Drink Driving? GROW UP Handicap (64) 1250m:
Back Me: 12 Lionel Left Me (Bet Now: $9.00) ran in a 1200m maiden on Cup Day on the course proper and after receiving a nice sit just off the speed, gee she let down impressively and won quite well with a bit in hand. The run prior against the older horses was a ripper and that last start effort indicates she can measure up to these for sure. Keen on her to get the job done and progress through the grades.
Big Danger: 6 Boggoms (Bet Now: $3.60) resumed over 1050m on the course proper on Cup Day where he was an alarming drifter in betting but that fluc almost was proven wrong as he motored home late to just miss out on picking up Joy Flipper. He should take good improvement off that and the extra 200m is perfect.
Long Shot: 10 Halayr Rothestar (Bet Now: $16.00) is a relatively consistent galloper that comes back to town for Grant Young after running over 1200m at Gawler on Oaks Day when finishing off with real purpose when running a close up second to Red Fairarie. The two starts prior in town were solid efforts in strong races. Draws well and gets the services of Jason Holder. Knockout chance at odds.
