Nine races will be run and won at Gawler this Saturday. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres from the 800m-400m; True for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:57) Adelaide Bus & Coach Sa (Bm64) 1100m
1 Colmar (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a juvenile with a decent amount of ability IMO. Daniel/Stanbury trained gelding that had two runs several weeks ago to start his career, the second run being an impressive win at Morphettville on Boxing Day. Freshened up, trialled well since and seemingly has a good racing style. Very likeable against these.
5 Kuroyanagi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Clarken/O’Shea filly that is on debut. She trialled at Murray Bridge on Monday where she led throughout and gee she moved well to my eye, clicked up late and moved very nicely in winning. Seems a very nice type and has a good racing style it would appear so keen to see how she goes.
4 Darlinc (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third pick, but a very much distant third pick. He ran second to Colmar on Boxing Day where he was on speed and seemingly had every chance but was just no match for the eventual winner. Doubt she turns the tables and wins but I think she runs third.
Race 2. (13:32) Hi-Beam Car Wash Gawler (Bm76) 2112m
3 Cullen Skink (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for Clarken/O’Shea and no reason why he can’t win again. He has won 3/3 this time in, the latest being here two weeks ago where he got the dream run in transit before edging wider into clear air and he got better as the race went on to win impressively. He’s got room for improvement, he’s a winner, a line finder…very likeable.
1 Test The Law (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down. Matty Seyers trained gelding that a fortnight back here, attempting to lead throughout, and gave a strong kick, but was run down late by Don’t Dismiss in a close finish. He will love getting to a firmer deck and with the 2100m run under the belt, he appeals.
5 Wheels (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been teasing to win a race this prep but she has become somewhat frustrating. I liked her a lot in the Don’t Dismiss race from two weeks back and in the run, she looked the winner, but when asked for the big effort, she couldn’t pick her feet up on the wet ground and struggled late. Back on top of the ground, she is a definite improver, but backing her to win with confidence is a difficult ask.
Race 3. (14:04) Contract Engineering (Bm72) 1706m
3 Second To Nun (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form, a purple patch, for Clarken/O’Shea and has to be respected. She looked in a bit of trouble when racing here two weeks ago but thankfully the gaps game, she ate up the mud and was much too good. The jury was out on her but since Rochelle Milnes has jumped on, this mare has turned the corner. Commands respect.
1 Apache Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since racing at Murray Bridge where he attempted to lead throughout but he was the first horse beat and tired badly in the straight to run last, and I’m just putting it down to not handling the seven day back up. He’s had the break, he has a good racing style…takes running down.
4 Wild Willy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in with a shout for Jamie Opperman. He ran over 1700m at Penola last time out where he got a fair way out of his ground off the speed and while he was never a threat, he made up some headway and was solid in defeat behind Thrill Kill. Not sure he can beat the favourite, but must be entertained for exotics.
Race 4. (14:39) Gawler Self Storage Mdn Plate 1200m
5 Never Surrender (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the way I am leaning but not a whole lot of confidence. Andrew Gluyas trained gelding that ran in a Morphettville maiden three weeks ago where he got back and wide in the run, doing plenty of work, and actually stuck on quite well in defeat I thought behind Nosie By Nature. Back up in trip, more economical run, he’ll take beating.
13 Press Express (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down for Peter Hardacre. This filly debuted a few weeks back at Morphettville where she attempted to lead throughout and she gave a tremendous sight but couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow third to Nosie By Nature. The end of 1000m is a query but with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.
3 Knight Dancer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran third in the Sir Reginald maiden mentioned above. He was wide no cover on speed throughout and he tried his guts out but doing the extra work just told late in the piece when a close up third. If he can get a better run in transit this time around, his efforts suggest a maiden win is near and it could easily come here.
Race 5. (15:17) Mark Burnett (Bm76) 1200m
4 Portration (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1200m for Sue Jaensch. This gelding ran two weeks ago over 1100m here where he had the suck run behind the speed before angling clear and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow second to Celsius Star. Up to 1200m should be fine and he does save his best for this track.
1 Jacks On Ice (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Team Jolly. He ran a few weeks ago at Morphettville when on speed throughout and seemingly had every chance but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Grinzinger Prince. Ran well here first up and he does have a strong third up record. Happy to give him another chance.
3 El Salto (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) had a couple of runs for Garret Lynch and rates highly. He ran third at Morphettville a few weeks back, settling back in the run but worked to the line strongly late in the piece when a close up third to Winning Revolution. Working towards another win I feel and strikes a winnable race.
Race 6. (15:52) Lj Hooker (Rs1ly) 1506m
7 Dawnburst (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Jordan Frew trained mare that is racing in just about career best form and rates highly. Loved the way she let down to win two back on the home deck at Murray Bridge before going to Gawler two weeks ago where she was very honest behind Second To Nun but just struggled to pick up on the wet ground. Back on top of the ground, hard fit, in form, she appeals.
3 Pool Pony (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Francis/Kent and is a key chance. He has won his past two, the latest coming at Morphettville three weeks ago where he gave them a start from behind the speed before angling into clear air and let down with real purpose to win and win well. Harder here, but confident he runs well once again.
1 Magnetic Edge (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate firmer footing. He ran two weeks back here on what was pretty much a bottomless deck and he struggled to pick his feet up in the conditions, finishing down the track behind France’s Boy. Back on firmer footing and back in grade/depth, he’s a definite improver at odds.
Race 7. (16:32) 4 Ways Fresh Produce (Bm64) 1200m
2 Zebella (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be ready to go in what I feel is D-Day for her. Condition and wet ground beat her first up at Morphettville before racing there again three weeks ago where she was wide with cover and loomed, surged but just did a bit wrong late and IMO she threw the race away when second to Winning Revolution. If she puts it together, I think she has a bit on these.
5 Cuban Waters (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a nice mare on the up for the Searle/Callinan camp. She has been kept on ice since a maiden win on Boxing Day at Morphettville where she would have been a good thing beaten had she not got clear but thankfully she got clear and finished best. Harder here, but she is a mare on the up and has progression.
1 Hope At Hand (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is four weeks between runs for Andrew Gluyas since racing at Murray Bridge where she got a fair way back off the speed and while she was never threatening, she did make up ground and was sound enough in defeat behind Rockstar Meggsy. Hard mare to catch at times but with her best, she is more than good enough to take this out.
Race 8. (17:12) Criterion Tavern Gawler (Bm64) 1200m
11 San Lucido (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has had a coupe of runs for Jon O’Connor and is seemingly getting better, nearing a win. He ran in the Dawnburst race from four weeks ago at Murray Bridge when just off the speed and kept finding the line in a good effort, finishing second. Nearing a win I feel and he strikes a winnable race.
3 Another Ponzi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Team Jolly trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 22 on the Parks track at Morphettville where he just looked a tired horse in an end of prep run behind Son Of Bielski. Good fresh horse and with two jumpouts under the belt, there looks to be intent.
9 Willybeafactor (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) almost landed bets at odds when racing here two weeks back given he is a swimmer and he found a wet track and for the most part, he looked the winner in the straight, but couldn’t quite see it through when second to Toast The Deel. Back on firmer footing is the negative but he’s in well after the claim and can press forward.
Race 9. (18:00) Kingsford Hotel Hcp (62) 1506m
10 Karaka Kiwi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing in solid form and commands respect. He broke a long run of outs when a dominant maiden winner at Murray Bridge two back before going to Morphettville a few weeks back where he attempted to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick but he couldn’t get the job done when a narrow second to Alainage. Racing in good form and strikes a winnable race for mine. Leading contender.
12 Billie Bronx (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has talent in her own right and appeals against these. She was well tried in betting four weeks ago at Murray Bridge when on speed and seemed to have every chance but couldn’t quite get the win when beaten three lengths by Dawnburst. She has that 1400m run under the belt, which should hold her in good stead.
8 Plaisir (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing well for Hickmott/Riggs. He ran over 1700m here two weeks back where he attempted to lead throughout on testing ground and credit to him, he gave a strong kick, but had no answers for the finale of Cullen Skink. No horse of that quality here, he’ll press forward and give a decent sight.
