19/3/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Flemington, All Star Mile day

Flemington will play host to the fourth edition of the All Star Mile (1600m) this Saturday, with the $5 Million feature the drawcard on the nine race program. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

1 Through Irish Eyes (Bet Now: $4.50 TOP ODDS) deserves another chance. Maher/Eustace galloper that looks a real one batter so a testing trip here will be ideal. Forgive his Randwick run when wide no cover for the trip. Prior run was that of a horse ready to win when getting to a suitable trip, so not dismissing him.

It hasn’t been hard to miss the last two runs from 8 Oh So Far (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS), both over 2400m at Sandown. Bolted up two back before racing here two weeks ago and if you backed her, apologies for bringing it up. She should have won but just had no luck at all in the straight. If she gets the rub of the green here, she’ll take beating.

6 Uniquely (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is flying at the moment for Dan O’Sullivan. Last two starts have resulted in strong wins at Ballarat over 2000m and each time she has been quite strong on the line. The way she is racing and hitting the line, 2500m here is no issue and is down in the weights.

I’ll take a chance with 7 Miss Albania (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS), who resumes for Team McEvoy after formerly being with Enver Jusufovic. She hasn’t raced since the Moir in the Spring where she was just outclassed behind Wild Ruler, but far from disgraced. Now with the new camp, thought she jumped out well at Ararat and stable finds J Kah to steer.

3 Lombardo (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) is a key threat. Quality sprinter for the Price/Kent team that resumes. He hasn’t raced since starting hard in the market when contesting the Manikato and he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Jonker. Won a Terang jumpout before a strong Colac trial effort, so he’s here to run well fresh.

1000m is on the short side for 4 Sirius Suspect (Bet Now: $19.00 TOP ODDS) but he does love the straight course. Hasn’t raced since November 20 when down the track over 1200m on Ballarat Cup Day behind Ocean Beyond. Recent Flemington jumpout was sharp and always commands respect at this track.

Last I heard, 1 Yonce (Bet Now: $1.08 TOP ODDS) was heading towards the Aspiration then the Coolmore Legacy in Sydney so bit surprised she is accepted here. In saying that, if she does run here, she just wins. She’s going to reach the top level before her career ends. Unbeaten in five runs, she is getting better with each and all things being equal, she should be winning this.

This looks a target race for 2 Unique Artist (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS). Narrow placing at Stakes level over this trip two back at Morphettville before coming back to the mile here when good late behind Yonce. Now back up in trip and she does have a fab track/distance record, so she’ll have admirers.

Tom Dabernig has done a fab job with 5 Angel Rock (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS). On form, she’s not good enough to trouble the winner, and I dare say the second horse, but she has gone from being a busted at 58 grade to being a metro class mare. She won’t win, but she can finish in the minor money.

I dare say 2 Teewaters (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) is being aimed at the SA Derby, but he does have class on his side and I think that class can get him a first up win here. Hasn’t raced since the VRC Derby when a game third to Hitotsu in a strong edition. Has had two 1000m+ jumpouts to get ready, so he’s had the grounding to run well here fresh. Can see him getting three/four wide cover and launching late.

4 Pounding (Bet Now: $3.00 TOP ODDS) has been up a while for Peter Moody but gee he’s racing well. Carleen Hefel got aboard him at Sandown over the mile and finished over the top for an impressive win, proving quite strong over the mile. Now he has that run under the belt, he’ll take beating.

3 Umgawa (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) is four weeks between runs for Team Corstens since contesting the CS Hayes where he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Pinstriped, who of course was luckless in the Guineas and is going around as solid market elect in the All Star Mile. If you can trust that form, he commands respect.

3 Beltoro (Bet Now: $6.50) looks the pony to beat. He won a Bendigo heat in dominant fashion under McDougall, where he was ridden a bit upside down with his pattern, but he was just far too classy for that lot. He’s better with a bunny to chase IMO, but in a race like this, I think just ride him like the best horse in the race, which I think he is.

1 Gracias Amigo (Bet Now: $15.00) is a progressive animal for Grahame Begg that commands respect here. Ran last Wednesday at Sandown and what I liked about the win was the ticker he showed. He was there to be run down but he fought, kicked and in the end, drew clear for a dominant win. Hard to beat here.

11 Spanish Snitzel (Bet Now: $27.00) is a handy galloper for Con Kelly that comes through an Ararat heat of this race where he was very good against the track pattern when third to Bella Tiara, spotting them a decent start and working to the line strongly. He should get a decent drag into the race and prove hard to beat.

Been hot on 2 Zaaki (Bet Now: $2.40) for this race for a couple of months and won’t be dropping off now. Resumed in the Blamey where he was run down late by Inspirational Girl, but there were a number of reasons for that. He was first up, he had to carry 6kg more, and he wasn’t allowed to race to his true pattern, which is clear air and rolling to build full momentum. Now at set weights, if that set up can eventuate here, it’s going to take something special to beat him I’d suggest.

12 Inspirational Girl (Bet Now: $6.00) did have the run under the belt and that, plus the weight pull, was the reason she nailed Zaaki in the Blamey, but keep in mind that was just her third run since 2020, so she’s got plenty of upside to come and a truly run mile will be right up her alley.

10 Tofane (Bet Now: $14.00) is a ripper for Michael Moroney. She is just so damn honest and genuine. Led and spanked them in the CF Orr before a gutsy effort behind Sierra Sue in the Futurity. 1600m at this level sees her right out IMO, but with a soft trip, she can handle it, and she tries her guts out.

10 Gentleman Roy (Bet Now: $2.50) has been up a while but continues to hold his form really well. Sat on speed here two weeks ago and tried his guts out but was just no match for a star in Yonce. Gets massive weight relief here, he’ll be on speed, whether leading or sitting outside Holbein, and he’ll only run well.

9 Bermadez (Bet Now: $4.00) looks to be in for a ripping prep. Michael Moroney trained gelding that produced one of the wins of the day when resuming down the straight here two weeks ago, charging to the line late off a moderate speed to nail the hard fit/in form Rose Quartz. 1200m to 1600m is a little query, but he’s becoming a pretty good horse, especially early on in a prep.

7 Milford (Bet Now: $67.00) is a stablemate of Bermadez that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Spring when down the track in the Benalla Cup behind Starcaster in a pretty plain effort. He hasn’t really set the world on fire in Australia but his recent jumpouts have been encouraging enough to suggest he could pull out a positive run fresh.

8 Desert Icon (Bet Now: $3.70) is three weeks between runs since contesting the Mornington Cup Prelude where on face value, he was just fair behind Defibrillate, but watching the replay, he was barbecued by Ziegfeld, who made the move to find the front, then Desert Icon was forced to go earlier than what Thornton would have liked…plenty of merit to the run really. If that hasn’t busted him, he’ll take beating here.

I’m giving 2 Secret Blaze (Bet Now: $20.00) a shout here at odds. He ran in the CS Hayes Memorial at Morphettville on Monday and I liked the way he finished his race off against the race shape behind Black Sail. Fitter, gets to a suitable trip, maps well from the draw…a win wouldn’t shock.

12 Enbglish King (Bet Now: $46.00) hasn’t set the world on fire since arriving in Australia but he races on his home track and has upside to come. Comes through the Mornington Cup Prelude where he was first up and I just don’t think the race shape suited him at all. Not sure he wins here, but I could sneak him into multiples.

5 Paperboy (Bet Now: $6.50) has been excellent in two runs for Gavin Bedggood and I think he can take this out. He ran at Caulfield back on Feb 12 over 1400m when looking the winner when clicked up but was nabbed late by Unanimous. Fresh legs back to 1200m, I like him here despite good depth engaged.

6 Tap’N’Run (Bet Now: $13.00) is using this as a prep run for the Country Championships but he certainly has the talent to be in the finish. Just took a while to wind up at Wagga last time but was good late when second to Another One. If they overdo it in front, he’ll be strong late.

16 Finance Choice (Bet Now: $10.00) won’t know himself right down in the weights like this. I find this interesting placement by Tom Dabernig. He places his horses to near perfection so throwing this guy in the deep end like this is intriguing. He has done little wrong, he’ll be on speed, down in the weights…he’ll give a sight.

NEXT BEST: Race Two Number 7 Miss Albania

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 2 Teewaters
