10 Just Zerene (Bet Now: $1.30) should be putting these away. Talented filly for the McEvoy camp who was of course at the centre of ‘Text Gate’ during the Brisbane Summer Carnival where she was regarded as a better horse than Sunlight. Didn’t quite come to plan, but she showed enough to suggest she’s above average and her recent trials have been outstanding to the eye.

Danger

9 Twist Of Magic (Bet Now: $7.50) resumes for Will Clarken. This mare makes her Australian debut, having not raced since her debut at Te Awamatu back in October last year where she got a mile back in the run but finished off well to run fourth. Now with Clarken, her recent trial was quite good and we know the record Clarken has at improving these tried horses.

Long Shot

I can’t see Just Zerene getting beat but is prohibitive odds. If you want to back, I think you can get $2+ for 6 Calypso Reign (Bet Now: $8.50) to run top three. Debuted over 1000m at Murray Bridge and was disinterested for the most part, but gee he worked home well, albeit well held. You’d like to think there’s a stack of improvement left and the blinkers go on to sharpen him up.

Big watch on 4 Taken Off (Bet Now: $6.00), a Toorak Toff colt for Phillip Stokes that debuts. He trialled over 1000m at Murray Bridge a couple of weeks and while he didn’t smash the clock relative to the morning, he looked to move well and won the trial to win narrowly but impressively. Debuting in town tells me the stable might have an opinion of him, so watch the yard/market.

Danger

3 Streetcar Strangler (Bet Now: $3.70) is a son of Stratum resuming for the David Jolly stable. This bloke hasn’t raced since debuting in May over 1050m at Balaklava when back, wide with cover, and found the line well enough when a narrow third to Nature Deel. Gee he trialled sharp a couple of weeks back at Murray Bridge when leading and going through his gears nicely.

Long Shot

12 La Richesse (Bet Now: $6.50) is a daughter of Danerich for Will Clarken that resumes. She debuted in early June at Gawler where she was hard in the market but raced a bit green and didn’t quite finish it off well enough when fourth to Khani Star. Trialled behind Taken Off and went well, but to my eye, she didn’t go as good as Taken Off. But she has race experience and a good draw.

Race 3. (14:46) Aami (bm80) 2040m

Travis Doudle looks to have a really nice stayer on his hands here in the shape of 2 Jaguary (Bet Now: $1.60), who has won his past three, the latest coming over the 1950m on the Parks track at Morphettville where he was near the speed throughout and was pressured on the turn, but his turn of foot was very good and put them away like a good horse. Confident he can win again.

Danger

1 Wasabi Bob (Bet Now: $4.20) is bursting to win a race and I think he gets his chance here. He attempted to lead all the way over 1950m on the Parks track two weeks ago and looked to get a good time of it under Jerry Chau but was no match for Jaguary, who does look a very progressive horse. The run prior was a beauty at Stakes level, so he’s the one to beat for mine.

Long Shot

7 Olympic Academy (Bet Now: $34.00) is the interesting one. The old boy had specking at longer odds when racing over 2250m on the Parks track two weeks ago but the slow tempo was against him and he couldn’t dash behind Charossa, but was solid enough in defeat. Back to 2000m is the interesting ploy, and while he hasn’t done much positive for a long time, he’s one for multiples.

Race 4. (15:21) Rebel Raider Series Final 1200m

2 Jacobite Prince (Bet Now: $4.60) on top. Phillip Stokes looks to have a pretty handy 3YO on his hands here. He’s won 2/2 to start his career. Won his maiden on debut at Gawler before being freshened up and racing on the Parks track where Gary Lo got a soft lead on the gelding and it was a painless watch from the home turn onwards. He’s talented and I think he can make it 3/3.

Danger

On form, 1 Garner (Bet Now: $3.20) is the one, clearly. The query is how much work Gordon Richards has done with him in readiness for this because I’m sure the stable has eyes towards blacktype races in Melbourne, which is where he returns from after winning impressively from the back to get the job done at Caulfield. He’s the one I think, but in terms of a betting proposition, I’d prefer to watch.

Long Shot

7 Holy Dancer (Bet Now: $21.00) is a daughter of Sacred Falls for the Stokes team that was pretty good in winning her maiden two back at Strathalbyn before racing in the Jacobite Prince race where she seemed to have her chance but was no match for the change up speed produced by the stablemate. Not sure she wins, but she’s honest and should be thereabouts.

Race 5. (16:01) Weslo Security (bm70) 1600m

3 Marina (Bet Now: $5.50) is an absolute beauty for John Hickmott. He is a bold front runner who will give his all on speed, which is what he did last time out over 1550m on the Parks track but just lacked the turn of foot to go with the in form Dexter You Devil, but stuck on well to run third. Bit more depth here, and creeping up in the weights, but he’ll give his all.

Danger

1 Tongsai Boss (Bet Now: $1.65) is flying for John Hyam. Beat all bar Aiguilette first up over 1200m here before racing on the Parks track a fortnight back when on speed and giving a good kick but couldn’t quite get the win when a narrow second to More Than Exceed. He’s bursting to win a race and I think he gets a great chance here. One of the hardest to beat.

Long Shot

2 Adatto (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Michael Hickmott trained gelding that was unwanted in betting when resuming over 1300m here two weeks ago but I thought he got a definite pass mark when third to More Than Exceed after being near the speed. Can run well second up and the big tick for him is stepping up to the mile, plus the stable is having a good run at the moment.

Race 6. (16:41) Peter Elberg Funerals (bm66) 1800m

Back Me

3 Set To Cruise (Bet Now: $3.90) looks to be ticking along nicely for the Mick Huxtable stable. Just did a bit too much two back over 2000m before coming back to 1700m at Gawler where she was there to be run down but gave a good kick and in the end, class came to the fore and she was too good. She’s hard fit and now has winning form, so she comes into play I think.

Danger

Back to 1800m is an interesting ploy with 11 Grabbing Glory (Bet Now: $3.30). This Macdonald/Gluyas trained mare has run at 2000m+ at her past three, the latest coming two weeks ago over 2250m on the Parks track when a solid third to Franked after doing a bit of work near the speed. Perhaps just failing to see out a staying trip, so back to 1800m is something that can potentially work.

Long Shot

8 Sunmate (Bet Now: $9.50) is on the seven day back up after racing over the mile here last Saturday where he was back, wide with cover, and worked home well without really threatening behind Mabel Josephine. Think the rise to 1800m suits, hard fit, in form and if Gatt can get him to settle a pair or two closer in the run from the gate, he’ll be dangerous.

Race 7. (17:26) Peter Elberg Funerals (bm70) 1050m

Really keen on 11 Octane (Bet Now: $2.60) for Phillip Stokes. Former Maher/Eustace trained gelding that had his first run for the Stokes team at Murray Bridge over 1000m and I really liked his turn of foot when asked for an effort by Crowther, putting his rivals away to win impressively, and run sharp time. He showed city talent when trained in Victoria, so keen to see how he goes here.

Danger

10 Heaven’s Deal (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Team Jolly trained mare that went completely off the boil when last in work, but punters were keen to back her first up on the Parks track, backing her into $4.20 after opening $5 and the move almost came off, but she just had too much to do back off the speed in a leader dominated race. If she can improve off that, she can win here.

Long Shot

3 Call Me Curtis (Bet Now: $14.00) is a son of Wanted for Craig Curtis who had a significant time off, near 18 months, when resuming on the Parks track three weeks back and his effort was very good when third to Miss Labelle. Admittedly, he had a decent run near the speed, which was the place, but I thought his run after the layoff was quite good, so I’m giving him a chance here.

Race 8. (18:02) So Brave (bm70) 1200m

Imagine what you could be buying instead.

Back Me

10 Coronel (Bet Now: $4.50) is suited back to 1200m I think. First run for Will Clarken saw him bolt up over 1200m at Strathlabyn before stepping up to 1300m on the Parks track where the track pattern was against him and he couldn’t sprint well enough behind More Than Exceed. Better suited at 1200m on the bigger track for mine and off the Strathalbyn win, he’s in the mix for sure.

Danger

3 Final Hearing (Bet Now: $5.50) is the big watch. Former Bob Peters horse from WA that makes his SA debut for Marilyn Smith. His two runs back from a spell at Belmont were quite good without winning, both times placing behind Why Choose Her. His best is certainly good enough to beat these, so it’ll be interesting to see what the market does with him and how fit he is given he’s two month between runs.

Long Shot

5 French Rock (Bet Now: $19.00) can add some value to exotics. Bill Bogarts trains this gelding, who has been quite disappointing in two runs back from a break, with those runs following a couple of sharp trial efforts. Hasn’t raced for five weeks, so he brings fresh legs into this and does tend to race best on the fresh side, so an improved showing wouldn’t entirely shock.
