SA metro racing this Saturday heads to Gawler for a nine race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:52) Gj Civil (bm62) 1100m
I’ll take a chance on 4 Brazen Boy (Bet Now:Β $4.80). Phillip Stokes trained three year old that resumes and he is a speed demon, so if this track is playing towards in front, he’s clearly the one to beat because he’ll lead this field up and his two jumpouts, winning them both, have been very sharp.
2 Eyes Never Lie (Bet Now:Β $3.80) is a talented filly for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp that was a strong winner over 1250m on the Parks track at Morphettville two weeks ago. She sat off the good speed before peeling into clear and in a driving go, finished best. Confident she’ll run well again if she holds her form.
7 Desired (Bet Now:Β $8.00) brings okay Victorian form with her to Gawler and for an in form stable, I think she has to be respected here. Both runs this time in have come over 1100m at Hamilton, placing each time, the latest being a second in a five horse field. Back to her own age, I think she’s right in this.
Race 2. (13:32) Matrix Solar Solutions (bm62) 1500m
4 Sadler’s Song (Bet Now:Β $4.00) looks a talented animal for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. Market found her at odds two weeks ago in a Maiden on the Parks track. Wasn’t the strongest field she beat up but she made an absolute mess of them and off that, the extra 200m should be no issue. She can win again.
3 Pentwortham (Bet Now:Β $2.35) seems a bit one paced so I like the Winkers going on to sharpen him up. Maiden win came at this track/distance where he hit the front and looked like he would draw clear but had to fight and only just lasted. I think he has the talent to measure up.
7 Valentigra (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is a Team McEvoy filly that has been hit and miss this time in, but I am convinced her best is good enough. On speed on the Parks track two weeks ago and tried hard. Fought on well but couldn’t quite hold on when a narrow second to Eyes Never Lie. If she can reproduce that here, she’ll be around the mark.
Race 3. (14:07) Bronwen Darrall Memorial (c1) 1200m
2 Journey To Petra (Bet Now:Β $3.10) is five years of age and has only had the one start, so has clearly had issues, but given how sharp he was when a debut winner, you can see why they persisted. Gee it was an impressive piece of work and from gate in a thin Class 1, I think he wins again.
6 Virtue (Bet Now:Β $16.00) is back on track I feel. Her form was suspect there for a while but she showed positive signs at Balaklava last time when on speed and fighting on pretty well in defeat behind stablemate Elidi. If she can build off that, I think she can go close to taking this out.
7 Beerz With Clint (Bet Now:Β $26.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Morphettville. He was never really a winning threat, but I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Point Blaze after sitting wide throughout. Back to a Class 1, a win wouldn’t totally shock.
Race 4. (14:42) Lj Hooker Property (bm76) 2100m
2 Fighter (Bet Now:Β $1.75) is starting to put it together and for mine, he is racing as if 2100m will suit. Lovely ride from Vorster saw him win over 1800m at Murray Bridge last time out, defying a notable betting drift. Off that, he should be fine at 2100m and stable is very much in form.
4 Bronski (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a tough, tough customer for Team Jaensch that is over two weeks between runs since a strong win at this track/distance. Was on speed and copping heat. He was there to be beaten but he found plenty under pressure and was too good late. Harder here, but I think he’ll be around the mark.
6 Flow Meter (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is a beauty. 12 years of age and will be having start 182 here. Ran last Saturday at Morphettville and I thought his effort from off the speed was quite good when fourth to Call Me Shamus. The depth there looked stronger than here, so while I doubt he wins, he’s on for exotics.
Race 5. (15:17) Holdfast Insurance Broker-bm68 1200m
5 Our Deep Agenda (Bet Now:Β $3.40) is flying and I think he can win again. Massive win from him two weeks ago on the Parks track. Did all the work on speed and was there to be run down but he found under pressure and on the line was edging clear. You keep waiting for an end of prep run, but there are no signs yet of him stopping.
2 Dominus (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained gelding that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since July 31 on testing ground at Morphettville where he produced an end of prep run behind Motell. Capable horse on the fresh side and his recent jumpout was encouraging.
8 Outpost (Bet Now:Β $4.50) will put himself on speed and try his heart out. That was the case last Saturday at Morphettville where he led at a good clip and tried hard, but just felt the pinch late behind Kayseri. Has run well at the track before and hard to knock how genuine he has become.
Race 6. (15:52) Coopers Brewery (bm82) 1100m
2 Terbium (Bet Now:Β $2.40) can bounce back. Last couple of runs have come on the Parks track, bolting up two back. Last start, I’d be very forgiving. The race was dominated by the leader, Trip, and those out the back, notably Terbium, couldn’t get involved. More genuine tempo here, he can run a much improved race.
3 Midnight Storm (Bet Now:Β $4.40) is an interesting runner. Four weeks between runs for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp since a strong win on the Parks track over 1400m, wearing down a game Heir Of Tavistock. Back to 1100m with fresh legs, on paper, tells me it’s a prep run for something else, but watch the market.
Good test here for 9 Bryan’s Babe (Bet Now:Β $9.50) but I think she has earned a crack at Saturday metro level. Trevor Montgomerie has got his stable flying at the moment and this girl is one of the more in form horses he has got. Loved the way she dug in with the big weight to win at Port Lincoln last Friday. Finds Vorster to steer from a good gate, she’s in with a shout.
Race 7. (16:32) Tab (bm60) 1100m
12 Unicorny (Bet Now:Β $9.00) has been strong in two runs for Shayne Cahill. Latest run was on the Parks track two weeks ago where she had a suck run off the speed and loomed to win, but I think condition just gave way late when second to Dantree. Like her up to 1100m and is hard to beat.
6 Spelman (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is a son of Toronado that resumes for Ryan Balfour. Hasn’t raced since August 21 when far from disgraced in defeat behind a then in mare, Enchantingly. Looks to have jumped out well leading in and overall, I don’t think this is the strongest race going around.
4 Mysticano (Bet Now:Β $19.00) is a sneaky chance here at odds. $101 outsider when resuming a few weeks back but was good late from off the speed in a definite pass mark when fourth to Lope De Wolf, beaten just under a length. With natural improvement off that, he commands respect.
Race 8. (17:12) Sir Pracealot (bm68) 1200m
5 Ginny Ann (Bet Now:Β $7.00) has had a few runs for David Jolly and is slowly getting towards a win. Ran over 1100m here last time out and worked home strongly late between runners when third to Gogolf Guru. Tick over trial on Monday was quite good and up to 1200m, she’ll take beating.
7 Lady Simone (Bet Now:Β $3.10) has only won the one race but I think she has talent. Ran behind Gogolf Guru in the race mentioned above. Tucked in behind the speed without much clear air until late when driving hard, finishing a close up fourth. Better luck and she can take this out.
11 Sand Cat (Bet Now:Β $21.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Ran at this track last time out when near the speed and didn’t quite get the rub of the green in the straight but that said, not sure she was going well enough to win behind St Just. Her best can see her be dangerous at odds.
Race 9. (17:50) Trimboli Services (bm60) 1500m
2 Crypto Currency (Bet Now:Β $8.00) should be suited up in trip and he has a fab record at Gawler. Ran over 1400m two weeks ago at Morphettville Parks and was plain I thought behind Annika, but it was a race suited to those on speed. The run prior was a beauty so have to give him another chance.
6 Toyz On Fire (Bet Now:Β $3.20) brings fresh legs into this, being four weeks between runs since a solid effort on the Parks track behind a talented animal, Tahnee Tradition. Break between runs and up in trip is an interesting set up but stable are having a really good run in SA at the moment.
9 Frankel Star (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is a proven metro performer who has a good record at Gawler. Last couple of runs have come over 1400m at Balaklava, the latest being last Wednesday where he was a narrow second to a progressive McEvoy galloper, Cuban State. With his track/distance record, he’s in the mix for sure.
