18/11/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Newcastle, The Hunter day

I like the look of 1 Gram (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for James Cummings. He was specked at odds last week in the Golden Gift and was scratched to be saved for this. His trials have been very sharp to the eye where he has seemingly had plenty in the locker, notably the latest trial at Hawkesbury. Stable used this race last year for Cylinder to make his debut and I reckon this guy goes pretty good.

2 Market Magic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a well bred colt for GaiBott that is on debut. This colt trialled at Randwick a couple of weeks ago and though pushed out, he responded quite nicely over the 737m and was impressive to the line in winning. He looks a sharp type suited to the 900m here and with the stable, you’d think he lands on speed and is hard to beat.

6 Gimme Gimme (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver at odds. She was specked at odds when debuting in the Inglis Banner on Cox Plate Day where she had a suck run on the fence and just battled to the line late but was beaten by a potential rocket, Bold Bastille, so I am respecting that form and back to this level, she is in with a shout.

I want to give 5 Resistible (Bet Now:  $SP.00) another chance for Michael Freedman. I thought her effort in the Four Pillars was incredible given the amount of work she did to lead and yes, there was a bias, but she was entitled to knock right up, but she only got the staggers late when a narrow fourth to Sweet Mercy. If that hasn’t busted her, she’ll take beating against these.

2 Toesonthenose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying without winning for John Sargent. His run in the Four Pillars was unbelievable given he was four/five wide no cover for the trip yet kept chipping away and was only beaten 2.3L by Sweet Mercy. If that run hasn’t emptied him for the prep, gee he will take beating and is a key winning chance.

6 Modern Millie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout hope. She has been solid this time in for Nathan Doyle, the latest run being two weeks back in the Four Pillars where she got back in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat behind Sweet Mercy. Hard fit, home track, she’s in with a shout.

7 Sharp Shock (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is unknown at the mile but is bred to be fine at it and he brings strong form. Far from disgraced two back behind a good horse, Bandi’s Boy, in a Highway, before racing at Randwick on Cup Day in a solid benchmark race behind Ningaloo Star. 1600m should be okay and gee this Highway is very much on the thin side. Hard to beat.

2 Rematch (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the one with upside/progression compared to most of these. Messara/Gavranich trained gelding that was a beaten $1.28 favourite at Muswellbrook last time out where he got back in the run after a tardy start, ducking back inside runners and drove hard late to just miss. Racing like 1600m suits and despite the stable having a terrible record in Highways, this race is thin.

9 Echoes Of My Mind (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can be dangerous without surprising. He resumed over the mile at Taree where he seemingly got every chance in behind the speed but didn’t finish the race off at all and was on the plain side behind Rossy’s Typa girl. He has the engine under the hood to measure up and with improvement, he’s in with a shout.

3 Portray (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous. James Cummings trained mare that led at Randwick a few weeks back, somewhat against her normal pattern, and she did give a strong kick but was run down late by Gringotts in a blanket finish. I think that run will toughen her up so with a more patient steer, she’ll take beating against these.

1 Zoe’s Promise (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks like she will win races under the care of Kris Lees. First run for the stable came two weeks ago at Rosehill and she was good in defeat behind Mars Mission given she was first up over an unsuitable trip yet kept finding the line in a good effort. Fitter and up in trip, she only runs well for mine.

6 Hide Your Heart (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is absolutely flying for Nathan Doyle and deserves a crack at Saturday metro company. 3/3 this time in, the latest coming at the midweeks on the Kenso where she gave them a start and a beating in a sharp display, albeit the race didn’t have much depth, but hard to knock a mare in form and with home track advantage, she is in the mix.

6 Pervade (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a horse I have time for and I think he can keep winning. Chris Waller trained import that that got the A1 run in transit three weeks ago at the Randwick mile and he duly took advantage, angling into clear air and was quite strong to the line late in getting the job done. He’s got room for improvement and off a win, he rates highly.

12 I’mintowin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect. First run for GaiBott came at Rosehill a fortnight back where he led throughout and yes, was helped by the up/in pattern, but he was there to be beaten but gee he was strong to the line in getting the job done. He has good room for improvement and up in trip, good racing style, he appeals.

11 I’m A Dirty Rascal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Rob Hickmott and was named King Of The Castle, he’s having his first run for GaiBott. We have seen in recent times that these Team Williams runners can grow a leg when away from Melbourne life and this guy hasn’t been too bad in trial work to get ready. Watch the market.

3 Sky Lab (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should take beating for Paul Perry. He ran two weeks ago in the Rosehill Cup where he was back near last in the run, against the pattern, but worked home with real purpose late in the piece, beaten just under two lengths by Wild Planet in a bunched, suspect finish, but I am convinced this guy is racing well and he’ll love 2300m on the home deck.

2 Stockman (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting towards peak fitness and up to 2300m, he appeals. He comes through the Rosehill Cup where he was on the back up and kept finding the line in a strong effort behind Wild Planet. He has been quite dour this time in so 2300m here should be ideal and he is the class of the field.

7 Olympic Gaze (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. He was a month between runs and was 2000m back to 1900m when racing two weeks back at Rosehill and just lacked the polish to go with them late, finishing down the track behind all the way winner Peshmerga. He has won up to 2400m so 2300m should be fine and with home track advantage, he’s in with a shout at odds.

Having a throw at the stumps in the shape of a local, 14 Kind Words (Bet Now:  $SP.00). She had zero luck in the Reginald Allen before going to a Hawkesbury maiden last week where she looked a moral on paper despite the testing conditions and she made a mess of them late, proving very strong to the line. I think she is worth a speck given she isn’t chewed compared to some of these who are looking for the paddock.

3 Invincible Spy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for GaiBott. 2/2 to start his career, winning impressively on debut over 1400m here before going to the mile at Gosford where he led throughout and was quite dominant in the run to the line, winning well again. Ticked the 1600m box, good racing style…he’ll take beating.

4 Sly Boots (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing like a rise to the mile will suit. He ran over 1300m on Big Dance Day at Randwick where he just lacked change up speed but picked up late and was pretty good to the line behind Ningaloo Star. 1600m, I think, should be ideal, and with a more positive ride up in trip, he’s a knockout chance IMO.

7 Rustic Steel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a great each way gamble here. He is several weeks between runs since resuming in the Sydney Stakes at Randwick where he was one of the real eye catchers of the meeting, closing off with purpose late in the piece behind I Am Me in what has turned out to be a hot form reference. Tick over trial last week was sharp, he’s trained on the track so I assume has been set for the race and he will be quite strong at the end.

14 Opal Ridge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Game second fresh in The Kosciuszko behind Front Page before going to The Invitation where she was a bit on the plain side, albeit was under four lengths away from star mare Espiona. Third up, hard fit, she appeals in a winnable race if she brings her best.

16 Gravina (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t mind getting his toe in so with a bit of juice in the track, he’s dangerous. He was backed at odds when resuming on Derby Day at Flemington but he was one of the first horses beat and struggled, running last behind Spacewalk. Much better set up this time around and his best is certainly good enough.

8 Sweet Mercy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks one of the leading contenders for mine off the back of her Four Pillars win two weeks ago where she got a beaut run in transit off the fast speed before Gibbons had to hold his breath in getting the narrow split. Thankfully the gap appeared, he drove through and the mare dashed late to win well. Hard to beat I’d suggest off that win, especially up in trip on the bigger track.

6 Oakfield Waratah (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door. He comes through the Four Pillars a fortnight back at Rosehill when near the speed and kept chasing, just missing out on the win when bloused late by Sweet Mercy. The form around him has been quite strong this time in and has versatility re racing pattern. Appeals.

5 Colour Sergeant (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has good upside to come and interesting he comes back to 1400m. He was a few weeks between runs when racing over the mile at Randwick a few weeks back where they rode with intent, landing on speed and he gave a decent sight but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Pervade. I think with a more patient steer, he can be a potential first four threat.

7 Capo Strada (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it for James Cummings. He was specked at odds when racing at Randwick on Big Dance Day and under a confident steer from Nash, he came with a well timed run to wear down a hard fit/in form Dalaalaat to win and win well. He can go on with it now.

1 Much Much Better (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will land on speed and prove hard to run down. The in form Sara Ryan trains this gelding, who is four weeks between runs since an all the way win at Randwick where he was there to be run down but he kept finding under pressure, was strong late and impressive in winning. This track, on this day, can play very much up/in, so if that pattern eventuates, he becomes quite dangerous.

10 Marnix… (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can he repeat history? He was big odds when resuming a few weeks back at Randwick and thanks to a rail hugging steer, he drove hard late and in a blanket finish, he got the win at a big price. I couldn’t back him to win but I can certainly entertain him for exotics given there is good upside to come.
