Easter Monday racing in Sydney heads to Canterbury for a really good program, eight races full. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:30) : TAB Plate 1200m:

Back Me: 2 El Venetian (Bet Now: $2.40) on top for me here in a race that I’m not too keen to play in. Waterhouse/Bott trained youngster that has run four times, his best effort coming on debut at Caulfield in the Blue Diamond Preview last year when third to Cohesion. Tuned up with a couple of nice trial efforts and gets the claim for Rachel King.
Big Danger: 1 Cordero (Bet Now: $5.00) is the watch horse here. One start for Team Hawkes which came here during the Winter where he ran a close up fifth to Piping Hot, a race that has produced five subsequent winners. Pushed out in a trial last week at Rosehill but responded okay to the eye and he gets the sweet run from the draw.
Long Shot: 8 Wayanka (Bet Now: $5.00) is the interesting runner here. Resumes for Chris Waller after a pretty poor two run prep where he really failed to flatter in both outings. He trialled in the same heat as Cordero and finished several lengths away, so I doubt he could turn the tables, but Bowman does stick from the trial.

Race Two (13:05) : #theraces Handicap 1100m:

Big Danger: 4 Icon Of Dubai (Bet Now: $6.50) is a High Chaparral colt on debut for Team Snowden. I think with time he will develop into a lovely three year old but I think he might have enough polish to pose as a threat here. Trials leading in have been quite encouraging and he will get every chance from the draw.
Big Danger: 7 Pymble (Bet Now: $4.60) is a Snitzel colt for Gerald Ryan who looks above average and will pose as a threat here for sure. He made his debut on his home track at Rosehill in early December when running fourth to Trekking. Loved his trial win last week and from gate one, Jason Collett has many options.
Long Shot: 14 Gold Digger Girl (Bet Now: $35.00) is a filly on debut for the recent Group l winning Paul Perry yard. She has had three trials to prepare for her debut, two this prep, the latest coming at Taree when third to Phoenix Sunrise. Stable could have found a race at the provincials but instead they debut in town. Watch the market.

Race Three (13:40) : TAB Rewards Plate 1200m:

Back Me: 8 Noire  (Bet Now: $5.50)on top. Chris Waller trained filly that really caught the eye on debut at Newcastle 37 days ago when settling just off the pace and trying hard when a close up second to Savapinski, a race which has produced three subsequent winners. She has been accepted/scratched a couple of times since, so don’t be worry by the break between runs.
Big Danger: 12 Slow Burn (Bet Now: $3.80) is the big watch here. Les Bridge trained youngster that is on debut here and she has really looked the part at the trials, sitting on speed most times and winning, running time. Looks well above average, she draws well and gets Tim Clark steering, plus she looks to map well.
Long Shot: 10 Penny Dreadful (Bet Now: $21.00) is a handy type for the Cliff Bashford stable at Taree and rates here as an outside winning chance at odds. Ran over 1300m at Scone last time out where she settled near the tempo and tried hard but was clearly no match for Grundalina. That filly has since run well in town, so that form reads well and she only has to overcome the tricky gate to be a threat here.

Race Four (14:15) : Pluck @ Vinery Handicap (72) 1100m:

Back Me: Pretty keen here on 4 Nonpariel (Bet Now: $3.80). Godolphin filly that is building up a nice record and looks to have come back in outstanding order based on her first up win at Kembla Grange where she showed a lovely turn of foot when asked for the effort and charged right away for a dominant win. She can go on with that with natural improvement.
Big Danger: 1 Magicaz (Bet Now: $8.50) did an enormous job in defeat first up at Newcastle given she was four wide no cover for the entire trip yet still loomed to win the race. The effort just told the final 75m. Provided she has come through that gutbuster well and hasn’t sooked up, she is a key threat for sure.
Long Shot: 11 Nights On Fire (Bet Now: $51.00) is a handy mare for the Norm Gardner camp. Resumed at Wagga and just looked in need of the run, plus she was run off her legs to an extent behind Nicof. She is a two time second up winner and does draw to sit just off the pace, plus she gets decent weight relief. Definitely one for exotics.

Race Five (14:55) : Tab.com.au Handicap (72) 1550m:

Back Me: 2 Beretta (Bet Now: $8.00) can bounce back here for sure. He ran in two heats of the Provincial Championship and failed both times, more so the Newcastle effort because I thought he was quite plain, even though he didn’t have much room. The blinkers go back on now and the claim for Rachel King is a big tick, plus the depth here isn’t strong.
Big Danger: 5 Reinforced (Bet Now: $4.20) ran at Newcastle last Saturday in what looked a strong race on paper and it certainly turned out that way. He was held up a touch early on in the straight but was out in plenty of time, but no match for a potential Queensland Derby type in Black On Gold. That looks very strong form for this.
Long Shot: 6 Le Cavalier (Bet Now: $6.50) is an absolute beauty for the Norm Gardner yard. Yet to finish further back than fourth at his past seven outings, the latest coming in the Albury Mile where he ran well when third to Overdue. I think back to 1550m and back to Canterbury helps, and McEvoy is the form rider in Australia at the moment.

Race Six (15:32) : Ranvet Handicap (72) 1900m:

Back Me: 3 Red Knot (Bet Now: $4.20) had been a maiden for some time, but he has really put it all together this time in for Rod Northam. Aided somewhat by the bias at Newcastle last time out at the mile, but he still led all the way and was dominant/strong to and through the line. 1900m is different gravy, but he maps well again, and you can’t ignore a horse with a picket fence in the form.
Big Danger: 8 Up ‘N’ Rolling (Bet Now: $3.20) is a former kiwi that made his Australian debut over the mile at the same meeting as Red Knot in a different race and stuck to the task pretty well I thought when third to the well performed Sedanzer. Second up at 1900m looks ideal and Bowman takes the ride which is a good lead.
Long Shot: 6 Nahema (Bet Now: $6.500) is a former kiwi who took her time to break her Australian duck, but she did it in style last time out at Gosford over the mile, albeit in a field of four and she controlled the speed, but she still got the job done and ran right away. 4kg rise in weights is the concern, but I’ll still include her.

Race Seven (16:07) : Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap (78) 1100m:

Back Me: 8 Elemenohpee (Bet Now: $6.00) on top for me here, but just. Was very good in the Winter last year but in the Summer he failed to fire a shot and was a big flop. Spelled and resumes here off the back of a very nice trial at Rosehill I thought, an indicator that he has come back well and will prove hard to beat fresh.
Big Danger: 10 Calanda (Bet Now: $2.70) is no doubt the best horse in the race, but at the $2.50 quote, I couldn’t back him. Still, he’s a very good horse and is a definite threat. Won two of three last time in, including the Inglis Sprint. No doubt he’s off to Brisbane, so whatever he does here he will improve on, but he might have enough class to overcome the lack of fitness.
Long Shot: 3 Raido  (Bet Now: $8.00) was 51 days between runs when racing in the Provincial Championship Qualifier on Slipper Day and considering he looked legless on the heavy track, I thought he ran really well behind Pomelo. Little break between runs should do him the world of good and he is a bomb when produced fresh.

Race Eight (16:42) : Schweppes Handicap (72) 1250m:

Back Me: 7 Bratislava (Bet Now: $4.50) for me here in the last. Talented gelding that resumes for the Godolphin team. Created a nice impression during his first prep in the Spring, winning a couple of races, including a tough Warwick Farm triumph. Been given two trials to prepare and though drawn awkwardly, I think he can slide over without doing much work.
Big Danger: 9 Roguish (Bet Now: $4.20) is a hit and miss horse at times, but when he is on, he is definitely Saturday class. Loved the drop in grade last time out at Gosford where he had a sweet sit off the speed and though he didn’t get much room early on in the straight, once he shoved into the clear, he dashed and won well. Confident he can go on with it.
Long Shot: 11 Maraam (Bet Now: $7.00) is the knockout chance at odds. Resumed in a messy 1200m race at Warwick Farm and she was one of several unlucky runners in what was an ugly race to watch. She is a previous winner at this track/distance and I saw enough in that resumption to include her as a threat here.
