17/8/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville Parks this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

2 Mesrour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to rate as one of the hardest to beat. Richards/Moyle trained three year old that is three weeks between runs since contesting the Lightning when thrown in the deep end but he ran out of his skin and was superb in defeat when close up behind Lingani. Like him back to this level and takes beating against these.

1 Sir Now (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in a three start career for Darryl Hewitt and appeals. He has won two of his three career outings, the latest win being four weeks ago over this track/distance, leading throughout and was was there to be beaten but found under pressure to win. Good racing style and is suited to the short course.

7 Palm Of Jumeirah (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a filly who I think has an engine under the hood and should prove hard to beat off the back of a first up win at Murray Bridge in a 1100m maiden where she looked a good thing on paper and despite a few nervous moments in the run, class kicked in and she was impressive late. Bit of depth to this line up but think she can measure up.

3 Wine Barron (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting towards D-Day but his best is more than good enough. He ran over 1400m a fortnight back at Murray Bridge where he got off the speed and to my eye, he had his chance and was a bit on the plain side in the straight behind Brazen Kingdom. Last chance territory but I am convinced he has the engine under the hood.

8 Nicish (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing like a rise to 1250m suits. He ran three weeks ago on the course proper here. She got a fair way back in the run and was chasing from the outset but kept finding the line in a pretty good effort behind Zanthron. Like her up in trip and with a more gentle tempo, she takes beating.

1 On The Scent (Bet Now:  $SP.00) resumes and is dangerous at odds. He is first up, having not raced since the Adelaide Carnival when down the track in the Guineas behind Air Assault. He is better suited over slightly further but has trialled well leading in and will be strong late.

2 Commissions (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is five weeks between runs for Michael Hickmott since making his debut at Murray Bridge over 1400m. He landed in front and gave a decent sight on speed but couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow second. The break between runs I find interesting but should be stronger at the end this time around and finds a winnable race.

17 Pappiana (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a mare who I think has a decent engine under the hood. She resumed two weeks ago at Murray Bridge over 1100m. She got back to near last in the run and worked home with real purpose in a good return behind Hollywood High. Fitter and up in trip, she takes beating.

6 Goldrush Guru (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an Andrew Gluyas trained gelding that resumes. This guy had a two run Autumn prep, the second run seeing him contest the Breeders Stakes when well held but did make ground and was far from disgraced in defeat behind a potential star, Growing Empire. He’ll get back but be strong late.

6 Chosen Miss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an iron mare for Garret Lynch that rates as one of the hardest to beat. She ran last Saturday on the course proper here. She got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up headway and was good in defeat behind Victorian raider New York Hurricane. Has run well at the track/distance previously, she’ll do me each way.

2 Lake’s Folly (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a good track/distance record and I think commands respect for Michael Hickmott. He ran a fortnight back at Murray Bridge over 2500m when racing back off the speed and was a bit one paced in the run to the line behind Fox Gem. I do like him back to the 2250m here and off prior efforts, he can take this out.

5 Smiling Assassin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a beauty for Garret Lynch and commands respect. He looked all over the winner when racing two weeks back at Murray Bridge and tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite get there when a narrow third to Fox Gem. Better suited at Murray Bridge vs here, but that said, he’s in career best form.

4 Exopipi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has an element of class about her and I’ll bank on that getting her home here. She resumed two weeks ago over the mile at Murray Bridge where she got a fair way off the speed and while she was never threatening, she did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat behind Maracourt. Back to this level of race, she rates highly for me.

8 Vee Rod (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will put himself on speed and take running down I feel. He got front end control at Gawler last Wednesday, leading throughout and gave nothing else a look in, winning quite comfortably. Harder here with more depth, but with that racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.

10 Charm Slinga (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was a long time out of the winners list but now he’s found winning form, he can certainly go on with it. The win came last Wednesday at Gawler where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late from near last to launch over the top and get the win. Now his confidence is up, he can go on with it.

9 Cullen Skink… (Bet Now:  $SP.00) well you could say he’s third up here, but I am saying he’s second up because the second up run was basically a barrier trial, which came at Murray Bridge two weeks ago. He should have won by a space but had zero luck in the straight and gee it was an ugly watch. He’s come back really well and with better luck, I think he wins.

12 Bonnie Gangster (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has an awful record on the Parks track but she is racing really well at the moment. She ran a fortnight back at Murray Bridge over the mile where she seemed to get every chance and was there to win but couldn’t quite get there when third to Maracourt. Knocking on the door and commands respect.

Fitter and up to 1550m are two big ticks for 8 Neodium (Bet Now:  $SP.00), who resumed two weeks back over 1400m at Murray Bridge when parading like he would need the run and while that did eventually pan out, I thought he ran a very credible race in defeat. Good racing style for this track, he can bounce back.

9 Angelic Appeal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order and is one of the hardest to beat. This mare resumed two weeks ago at Murray Bridge where she got a fair way off the speed but really liked the way she found the line late in the piece behind Falanghina. Track/distance winner and with good upside, rates highly.

1 Chambers Bay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back in trip, which I find interesting, but he is a horse with talent. Phillip Stokes trained gelding that ran over 1700m at Gawler on July 6 when just off the speed and seemingly had his chance in the straight when fourth to Leader’s Pride. If he brings his best, he goes close.

6 Katering (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Sebring for Michael Hickmott that resumes after formerly being with Tom Dabernig. Her best form is over a bit further than this but I will say that 1400m fresh does signal intent and the recent trial was sound, so watch the market and see what it does.

12 Aviatress (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a ripping mare for Team Jolly that commands respect. She resumed threeweeks ago in the Lightning where she got a mile out of her ground but finished off her race with real purpose late when a close up third to Lingani. Better for the run, fitter, she rates as one of the hardest to beat.

Not really anywhere to hide for 6 Lingani (Bet Now:  $SP.00) now she is a Stakes winner but that said, she is well in being a last start Stakes winner. She won the Lightning a few weeks ago, giving them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best. Spots them a start but should be strong at the end.

1 Ocean Reward (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Mark Webb since racing over 1100m on the course proper here. He got into a decent spot near the speed and presented to win, trying his guts out, but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Second To Nun. Back to a fast run 1000m, he’ll be quite strong late and is dangerous for sure.

17 High On Sugar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Francis/Kent trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since May 29 when a strong maiden winner at Strathalbyn where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted. Trial a couple of weeks ago was quite good and he strikes a winnable race.

1 Kalasec (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing well currently and can take this out. He ran over 1100m on the course proper here a few weeks back when just off the speed throughout and he tried his guts out but he couldn’t quite get there when second to Zanthron. Back to 10000m suits and does have a touch of quality when right.

2 Winning Revolution (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Jon O’Connor. He tried hard three weeks ago over 1100m on the course proper here when chasing a tearaway leader and the eventual winner, Zanthron, and while he was held when third, he kept on and was good in defeat. If he can get a more economical run in transit, back to 1000m, he appeals.

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 6 Chosen Miss
