Tricky race for the babies. Going with the O’Dea first starter 5 Better Get Set (Bet Now: $5.00), a daughter of Better Than Ready. This girl trialled at Doomben last Monday and looked to move well I thought when placing in a trial behind Rising Tycoon. Stable usually get them ready for a first up/debut run and I don’t think there are any standouts here, so she doesn’t need to be anything special to win.

Danger

4 All Good Millo (Bet Now: $6.00) is a fascinating runner. Daughter of Holy Roman Emperor for Michael Costa that is on debut. This girl has had two trials in readiness for start one, the latest coming at the Gold Coast on Monday when placing in a small field and looked to go about her business nicely I thought. Stable is flying, especially with their first up runners, so keen to see how she goes.

Long Shot

2 Ready To Bolt (Bet Now: $19.00) is a Better Than Ready colt for Kelly Schweida that debuts. This colt trialled over 840m last Monday at Doomben and thought he was a good mover when placing in a trial in solid enough time relative to the morning. Stable is having an okay run of things at the moment, so I think watch the market and see what it does with him.

Race 2. (14:03) Esplanade Mooloolaba (c3) 1800m

Up to 1800m third looks an ideal set up for 7 Dawson Diva (Bet Now: $2.50), trained on the track by Garnett Taylor. This mare was a surprising drifter in betting four weeks ago over the mile at Eagle Farm but she got into a really nice spot just off the speed and once she got clear air, the Oaks runner up put them away rather quickly and was dominant. Has more to offer and is a clear threat.

Danger

3 A Man To Match (Bet Now: $2.80) up to 1800m and fitter, he should take some beating. The slow tempo was really against him when resuming over 1400m two weeks ago at Eagle Farm but I thought he stuck to the task well in defeat and made up decent ground. Stepping up to 1800m looks perfect, back to a Class 3, and with all the upside left, he will prove very hard to beat.

Long Shot

Hardest test to date, but 6 So Dapper (Bet Now: $6.50) has put together a decent record in a short space of time, winning 2/3, the latest coming over the mile here on Cup Day when on speed and when clicked up, he put them away and was impressive again, like he was the start prior when breaking the maiden tag. Harder here, but I think he can measure up against these and run well.

Race 3. (14:38) Wharf Mooloolaba (rs1mw) 1400m

This is a bludger of a race. I think if there is each way odds on offer, back 5 Drumbeat’s Choice (Bet Now: $16.00). Hasn’t raced for five weeks since contesting an open handicap at Eagle Farm when far from disgraced behind Rhyme Nor Rhythm in a race which looked to have depth to it and there’s been a couple of winners to come from it. Back to this level and back on his home track, he’ll do me.

Danger

1 Coral Bay (Bet Now: $3.00) has a good record at 1400m and I think he can ultra competitive here. Ordinary steer by Ryan Maloney last Friday night here but thankfully the horse had enough class and brilliance to get home in an ugly watch for punters, but he greeted the judge first. Up to 1400m looks suitable and also like that he is on the quick turnaround. Hard to beat.

Long Shot

10 Mewstone Rock (Bet Now: $4.20) is a knockout chance here. The Symons/Laxon stable trains this mare, who resumed over 1400m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago where she was back near last in the run in what was a real on pace domination won by Snitz, but I didn’t mind the way he found the line late in the piece. Reckon she wants further, but has home track advantage.

Race 4. (15:17) Riceboi Mooloolaba (bm80) 2200m

Happy to give 9 Advance Warning (Bet Now: $7.00) another chance. Surged hard to finish best over 2200m at Eagle Farm two back before stepping up to 2400m where he just got too far back in the run and couldn’t dash quick enough when fourth to the in form Partnership. The two wins prior to that last start defeat were quite good, so have to give him another chance in a very winnable race.

Danger

What to do with 4 Lord Gododdin (Bet Now: $7.50). The Chris Waller stable in QLD has been going just awful in recent weeks, so can’t really back them with confidence when hopping the border, but this bloke does have good form around him, and last start did lose a plate in the run, if you can use that as an excuse. His best is clearly good enough to take this out.

Long Shot

10 Speaking Bad (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Gary Duncan trained mare who is racing quite consistently at the moment but is just struggling to put a win on the board. Thought she’d win three weeks ago at Eagle Farm and did look home for the most part but couldn’t hold out the finale of Partnership and was too good, just. Back on her home track, she’s hard to beat I think.

Race 5. (15:53) Landmark Resort & Spa Hcp 1000m

Think you just have to believe what you saw when it comes to the first up win of 5 Kalik (Bet Now: $4.40) at this track/distance back on Cup Day. It was one of the wins of the meeting, spanking his rivals, being eased down late yet still ran great late splits. Harder here, but proven at this set up and gets gate one for Brad Stewart, so has a bit going for him heading into this.

Danger

4 Battle Strike (Bet Now: $3.20) is a son of Shooting To Win for the Edmonds camp that resumes. This bloke hasn’t raced since the Winter with his two career outings coming at Ipswich. Bolted up on debut before a close up second to the proven city winner Magic Trick. Has trialled up very well on a couple of occasions in readiness for his return and looks to find a winnable race.

Long Shot

7 Combat Kid (Bet Now: $41.00) may want further, but he is on his home track. Has run at this track/distance at his past three, the latest coming on November 8 when back in the run and closing off well to run third to Je Suis Belle. Form around him doesn’t read too great with no subsequent winners at his past three runs, but on his home track and will be strong at the end.

Race 6. (16:32) Define Property Agents (70) 1200m

Back on her home track, in the corner of the Stuart Kendrick trained 3 Copywriter (Bet Now: $6.50). This mare put together a couple of nice wins on the bounce before racing over 1200m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back when on speed and trying hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off when a close up fifth to a handy one in Valario. Back on her home track, and perhaps with a more conservative steer, she’ll be more effective.

Danger

10 Pinnacle Star (Bet Now: $3.20) is a consistent gelding for David Vandyke who is racing really well at the moment but he can’t quite crack it for a win. He was confidently supported to win three weeks back at Eagle Farm and ran well but was no match for Macewen, who won again last Saturday to tick that form off. Think now he is on his home track, he’ll be hard to beat.

Long Shot

11 All Eez (Bet Now: $13.00) can measure up here. John Wigginton trains this gelding, who resumed on his home track at Rockhampton and really, he should have bolted in. Just had no luck at all in the straight when bolting for a run and when he did get clear, he savaged the line and just missed. Stable doesn’t bring them to town for nothing, so keen to see how he goes.

Race 7. (17:12) Mooloolaba Swiss Ace 1000m

Back Me

Death, taxes and 3 Tarzan (Bet Now: $3.30) running well at the Sunny Coast 1000m. This looks a real target for this local champ, who does save his best for the Sunny Coast five furlongs. Copped some heat on speed three weeks ago at Eagle Farm and despite lumping 61.5kg, he kept chipping away and finding plenty to hold on and beat Meet Mr Taylor. It’ll take a good one to beat him.

Danger

7 Meet Mr Taylor (Bet Now: $2.70) is indeed a good one and got close to beating Tarzan three weeks ago at Eagle Farm. He just did too much work from the wide gate and tried very hard, but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second. The little break between runs should do him the world of good and if he doesn’t spend as many petrol tickets early on, he’ll be hard to hold out.

Long Shot

9 Natch (Bet Now: $19.00) is a Thorn Park gelding for Tony Gollan that resumes. This gelding had a pretty solid Autumn/Winter prep, which ended in the Rocky Newmarket when racing like a very tired horse behind Wonder Boom. The form around him doesn’t read too bad for this and his trial last month behind Outback Barbie was good. Just want to see what the market does.

Race 8. (17:48) Mooloolaba Cup 1600m

If we can get decent odds, I reckon 15 Victory Eight (Bet Now: $10.00) is one of the better each way gambles of the entire day across Australia. This looks to be a real target for this horse, third up at the mile on his home track, where he saves his best. Definite pass mark fresh over 1200m before stepping up to 1400m when back and slightly hampered in the straight but he picked up and surged late. If he keeps progressing, which I think he will, he’ll only run well.

Danger

This looks a target for 12 Reckless Choice (Bet Now: $2.50) as well. Ran second to Looks Like Elvis over 1800m at Eagle Farm before being freshened up and racing over 1400m at that track two weeks ago and was very good in defeat from the back when a narrow second to Deep Image. Up to the mile and fitter, on a track he loves racing at, he should take some beating.

Long Shot

Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for the Chris Waller trained 4 Tumultuous (Bet Now: $23.00), who no doubt has eyes towards the Magic Millions staying race at the Gold Coast. 1600m is short of his best but he does have class/quality on his side. He resumed two weeks ago over 1400m at Eagle Farm and worked home pretty well I thought behind Deep Image. Knockout chance.

Race 9. (18:30) Surf Club Mooloolaba Hcp 1000m

6 Jeweliana (Bet Now: $7.50) is an All Too Hard filly for the Steve O’Dea camp that resumes. This girl had three runs in the Winter to start her career, winning her first two, including a win on Ipswich Cup Day in a hot form race. Then went to the Sunny Coast and was close up behind Raging Pole. Trialled up well last Monday at Doomben and she looks one of the hardest to beat.

Danger

1 Better Reflection (Bet Now: $3.80) is an absolute beauty for the John Wigginton stable that was given a sweet ride to beat Gem Of Scotland first up at Doomben before racing several weeks ago where Nick Keal rode a positive race on the filly but couldn’t quite get the win when second to Zac Attack. Third up now, she should be hard fit, ready to go. Hard to beat.

Long Shot

3 Bold Eos (Bet Now: $35.00) is a Garnett Taylor trained filly that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since July 6 during the Rocky Carnival on a bog track when struggling to pick her feet up and was at the end of a long prep when placing in a small field behind Master Jamie. Has had two recent trials to prepare for her return and does have home track advantage, so that helps her cause.
