A bumper ten race card has been assembled for Randwick on Saturday, headlined by The Everest (1200m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Back Me

I’m with 9 Orzala (Bet Now: $6.50) for John O’Shea. Well bred filly that has had two career outings. Too bad to be true on debut at Canterbury before going to Newcastle where she ran up to her impressive trial work, letting down with purpose and launching over the top to win, producing the best late splits of the meeting. Reckon she’s got enough under the hood to measure up here.

Danger

10 Parisal (Bet Now: $5.50) is a nice looking filly for James Cummings. She debuted over 1200m at Canterbury and on the turn, she looked the winner when J Mac presented her but she just died on her run when second to Shohei. On breeding, a rise to 1400m suits and should get good cover to sit off the speed and be strong at the end.

Long Shot

7 Razeta (Bet Now: $16.00) is an improver at odds. Kris Lees trained filly that resumed at Hawkesbury. She was wide for the trip and just one paced when asked for the effort but picked up and was solid late when fourth to Miss Kojiki. Should land in a plum spot from the inside gate and 1400m looks ideal.

Race 2. (13:05) Big Dance Wild Card 1600m

Back Me

I like 10 Solar Apex (Bet Now: $8.50) here. Chris Waller trained gelding that resumed behind Finepoint three weeks ago at Rosehill and was badly held up at a vital stage when building momentum and should have finished much closer behind Finepoint. Good record at Randwick and right down in the weights, he appeals big time.

Danger

Back to the mile I hate for 9 Wicklow (Bet Now: $5.00) but he is a horse with talent and will be strong late. He ran over 1900m at Rosehill three weeks ago and didn’t have the best of luck in the straight in trying to get clear but that said, he wasn’t beating stablemate Quality Time, who spanked them in the Port Macquarie Cup last Friday, so the form reads well. Just hope he can settle closer in the run.

Long Shot

14 Casino Mondial (Bet Now: $41.00) is a key threat. Kristen Buchanan trained gelding that resumed at the midweeks at Rosehill and was a real eye catcher from the back behind Mensa Missile in a strong return. Good second up record and will be a sneaky chance if he can settle closer in the run.

Race 3. (13:40) Craven Plate 1800m

Back Me

1 Cascadian (Bet Now: $1.70) quite clearly looks the one to beat. He comes back to 1800m from 2000m in the Hill Stakes two weeks ago but he made a mess of them and was arrogant in putting them away, confirming how well he has come back. Back 200m in trip is no issue and with class on his side, he’s the one to beat.

Danger

3 Surf Dancer (Bet Now: $4.50) looks the leader and if this track is playing up and in, he’s the one. Strong first up win in the Shannon where he came with a well timed run under Regan and was impressive late. The WFA angle is the query, but if he gets a soft lead, with Nash on, he’ll take catching.

Long Shot

9 Pinarello (Bet Now: $20.00) is suited up to 1800m with the run under the belt. The Queensland Derby winner resumed three weeks ago in the Shannon at Rosehill and I thought he was a definite pass mark after doing early work from a tricky gate. Better for the run, he has the quality to run very well.

Race 4. (14:15) St Leger Stakes 2600m

Back Me

8 Chalk Stream (Bet Now: $13.00) is a working progress for Chris Waller. Bombed the start fresh in a total forgive. He then went to the City Tatts Cup where they rode with intent, going forward, but he couldn’t go with Cadre Du Noir, finishing a well held fourth. If this becomes survival of the fittest, that will be his best chance.

Danger

5 Sacramento (Bet Now: $7.00) would love this track to be in the 5/6 range and not a bog, which is what he ran on in The Metropolitan. He ran a super race in defeat on speed when fourth to No Compromise. He looked gone on the turn but picked up late. Lands in front here and I think that will be no disadvantage.

Long Shot

7 Carif (Bet Now: $10.00) is another from The Metropolitan that should appreciate firmer footing. He was there to win the race on the turn but the wheels were just spinning on the ground, finishing midfield, but far from disgraced. He’s won at two miles so 2600m is no issue. Just wants a firmer deck.

Race 5. (14:50) The Kosciuszko 1200m

Back Me

I am seriously respecting 6 Far Too Easy (Bet Now: $4.00) here as a leading contender. He does have that strong SP over It’s Me fresh at Eagle Farm where he was ridden too close and tired late, beaten 1.3L. He then went to the Gold Coast where Jimmy Orman rode him with a sit, got the inside split and class came to the fore. Tick over trial last week was impressive and a fast run 1200m, I can see him finishing over the top.

Danger

5 Another One (Bet Now: $13.00) is no stranger to winning a big race at Randwick fresh. He won the Country Championships last season fresh and is looking to win this first up. Gary Colvin has given him two trials to get ready. Stretched the legs to win the first trial, but the second trial was a strong piece of work. He’s hard to beat.

Long Shot

10 Anethole (Bet Now: $13.00) would be top pick if this track was firm. He’s stil right in the mix on a 5/6 given he was very good late in The Shorts behind Nature Strip, producing excellent late splits in a lovely tune up for this race. If he’s within range on the turn, he’ll be hard to hold out.

Race 6. (15:25) Sydney Stakes 1200m

Back Me

I find it interesting that John O’Shea is resuming 20 Waihaha Falls (Bet Now: $6.50) in a race of this quality, but he is a very promising horse. He is first up and he showed last prep that he is a bomb at the Randwick 1200m, and on wet ground. Trials leading in have been good and yes, he lacks the class, but he is on the up and will be strong late.

Danger

1 Apache Chase (Bet Now: $6.00) is in the mix. He resumed two weeks back in the Premiere and didn’t disgrace himself at all. He landed on speed and gave a tremendous sight, but just couldn’t quite finish it off when beaten just under two lengths by Lost Abd Running. Fitter, firmer footing, a win wouldn’t shock at all.

Long Shot

8 Tycoonist (Bet Now: $26.00) is dangerous at a price for Chris Waller. He ran down the straight two weeks ago in the Gilgai. Couldn’t sprint when the rest did but picked up late and was pretty good to the line and through it behind Private Eye. If they go silly in front, he’ll be strong late.

Race 7. (16:15) The Everest 1200m

Back Me

He’s a champion 1 Nature Strip (Bet Now: $1.65), the best sprinter in Australia and indeed the world. I think he’ll strut his stuff here and make a mess of them. He was there to be beaten fresh in The Shorts but he just had panels on them and was dominant. He’ll land on the bunny, he’s relaxing much better with age and he’s the lone proven big time performer at this track/distance.

Danger

11 Jacquinot (Bet Now: $10.00) is the fresh blood and like most, I love three year olds in this race. He comes here off the back of a stunning Golden Rose triumph where he launched from the back out wide to win and secure a valuable Group l. A win here, beating the worlds best sprinter…the value rockets upwards. He gets the set up to sit back and launch. Hopefully he doesn’t get too far back.

Long Shot

6 Private Eye (Bet Now: $15.00) is one of a few here who will love a fast tempo and be strong late. He resumed in the Gilgai down the Flemington straight where he was backed as if unbeatable and he duly saluted, giving his rivals a proper galloping lesson in an arrogant return. Clearly better suited over further, but that win was superb and he is proven at Randwick, plus will be stronger than most late.

Race 8. (16:50) The Silver Eagle 1300m

Back Me

8 Loch Eagle (Bet Now: $14.00) has come back a different horse. A better horse. He resumed at the midweeks at Canterbury and so far, it’s the win of the Sydney Spring. Sat last, was last on the turn, peeled widest and he just rounded them up with ease to win and win in such impressive fashion. I think he’s a legitimate Golden Eagle contender and can confirm that here.

Danger

1 Mr Mozart (Bet Now: $2.60) has to be given another chance. Pike gave him a sore back in the Theo Marks. Somehow found himself three wide no cover and really, a half decent ride and he wins the race. Trialled up like a jet leading in, and if that run hasn’t busted him, he’ll look the winner for the most part.

Long Shot

5 Flying Crazy (Bet Now: $61.00) deserves another chance. Market wanted her with confidence when she resumed in the Weetwood at Toowomba but got into a nasty spot nearer the inside and then got checked, so while she was down the track, the run was a clear forgive. Drawn to get a soft run, she can pinch a first four spot at odds.

Race 9. (17:30) Five Diamonds Prelude 1500m

Back Me

2 Ayrton (Bet Now: $3.90) is hard to beat. He resumed in the Testa Rossa at Sandown and for a few strides was hailed as the winner but was match for the finale produced by I Wish I Win. The query is 1500m on wet ground, but an astute camp and we know this horse has quality.

Danger

1 Ellsberg (Bet Now: $3.10) is hard to beat. He made a mug of me in the Epsom because I thought he was zero hope at a mile on wet ground. But he surged hard late and was strong on the line, sharing the win with Top Ranked. Like him back to 1500m, and back a fair bit in overall depth, he appeals big time.

Long Shot

9 Diamil (Bet Now: $11.00) is an improver here. He resumed three weeks ago at Rosehill where he got back in the run and was solid late without threatening behind Finepoint. He has a good second up record and I think if the track can be a 5/6, he is certainly good enough to measure up against these IMO.

Race 10. (18:10) Angst Stakes 1600m

Back Me

8 Finepoint (Bet Now: $4.20) is hard to beat for Chris Waller. She was kept quite safe in betting when resuming over 1400m two weeks ago at Rosehill where she had the dream sit behind the speed before McEvoy gave her clear air and in a driving go, she finished best to win. Heading in the right direction, fitter, up to the mile…all points to her.

Danger

1600m is on the short side for 1 Polly Grey (Bet Now: $3.50), but at set weights, with juice in the track, she commands respect. Thrown in the deep end towards the end of last prep and didn’t disgrace herself at all, with a second to Zaaki in the Hollindale and wasn’t beaten far in the Doomben Cup. Trials have been good and she is the class.

Long Shot

3 Honeycreeper (Bet Now: $8.50) is a quality mare for James Cummings that has the class to take this out. She resumed behind Ita three weeks back here and was very good late without threatening. 2000m+ is when she’ll come into her own, potentially the Matriarch at Flemington? Wherever they head, she’s on track and is hard to beat here.
