Race 1. (11:43) Gunsynd Classic 1600m
2 Just Party (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. He just missed out on the win first up in the Hawkesbury Guineas before going to the Fred Best where he got too far out of his ground and was never really a winning threat. Hard fit now, 1600m, he appeals.
1 Pisces (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door. He comes through the Fred Best from last Wednesday where he got back but saved ground nearer the inside and kept finding the line in defeat behind S[icy Martini. Hard fit, 1600m should be fine and he does have a touch of class on his side.
4 Apuntar (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a first four threat. He ran second over 1350m at Doomben last time out when off speed and he kept chasing with purpose but couldn’t quite get there when second to Castillian. Not sure he wins but can run top four.
Race 2. (12:18) The Wayne Wilson 1600m
11 Demon Darb (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Rob Heathcoate and is one of the hardest to beat after a track/distance spank job win two weeks ago where he looked $1.01 in the run before being clicked up by Tommy Berry and away he went to gap his rivals and was impressive. Good test here at Stakes grade but confident he can measure up.
4 Pier (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect after his BRC Sprint effort when a fair way out of his ground but really liked the way he closed his race off in defeat behind War Machine. 1600m, I think, is fine for him, and he does bring the strong form lines.
12 Without Revenge (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Team Geran since racing at Doomben over 1350m where he just found them a bit sharp but he stayed on and was pretty good in defeat I thought behind The Inflictor. Hard fit and 1600m, he’s in the mix.
Race 3. (12:53) Brisbane Cup 3200m
I can make a case for 1 Alegron (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) at a price. She ran in the QEll Cup and the shifty track just wasn’t to his liking at all, but the last 100m and through the line, he was really good. He’ll love firmer footing, two miles, and has upside compared to most.
7 Manzoice (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should have no issue with two miles. He ran in the QEll Cup a fortnight back when too far out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat I thought. He should be fine at 3200m and his best is clearly good enough.
9 Mr Waterville (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) hasn’t won in forever but he will stay the trip no issue IMO. He ran two weeks back in the QEll Cup where he got too far back but did make up headway and was good I thought with the two miles in mind. Not sure he wins but can run top four.
Race 4. (13:28) Oxlade Stakes 1200m
1 Quietly Arrogant (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the best hrose in the race and if he’s ready to go, I think he wins. He resumes for Peter Snowden, having not raced since the Baillieu during the Sydney Autumn when struggling on the bog track. Given a break, trialled well, miles back in grade/depth, J Mac…like him.
4 Damien (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to Stakes grade after a win at the midweeks at Doomben where he was near the speed throughout and trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. He’s found winning form, he can go on with it.
3 Brave Design (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1200m after attempting to lead throughout in the BRC Sires and he gave a strong kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through, feeling the pinch late in the piece when fourth to Cool Archie. Back to 1200m and with a bunny to chase, she appeals.
Race 5. (14:03) Hinkler Hcp 1200m
7 Need Some Luck (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the Snowden horse for the Ramornie. He has been freshened up since the ATC Trophy at the Gold Coast on Hollindale Day when a closing second to the in form Rockribbed. Like him here with fresh legs and a tick over trial was pretty good.
6 Manhood (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since a strong win in the Chief De Beers three weeks ago when leading throughout and credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and score. 1200m should be no issue and off a win, commands respect.
5 The Big Goodbye (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came a few weeks back in the Chief De Beers where he found them a bit sharp but he stayed on and was quite good in defeat I thought behind Manhood. Fitter and up to 1200m, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 6. (14:38) J.j. Atkins 1600m
2 Grafterburners (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given another look on the firmer deck, the first time he finds dry ground this prep after two wet track runs to start the campaign, the latest being the BRC Sires when wide throughout and despite looming, the hard run told. He’s flying IMO and will eat up 1600m.
It’s hard to knock a horse that wins so you have to respect 1 Cool Archie (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) given he has just kept winning and has been strong each time. He was dominant in the Sires two weeks ago and if he was wearing Godolphin blue, or trained by Waller, he’d be odds on. Hard to beat.
9 Zebra Finch (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is progressive and heading in the right direction for James Cummings. He won at Rosehill two weeks back, sitting on a moderate speed and in a sit/sprint, he finished best to win and win well. No issues with 1600m and stable did win this race last year.
Race 7. (15:17) Dane Ripper Stakes 1300m
8 Abounding (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Rob Heathcoate since contesting the BRC Sprint where she got too far out of his ground and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up headway and wasn’t too bad I thought. Like her back to Mares grade and she likes Eagle Farm.
6 Coco Jamboo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat if she can jump clean. She bombed the start in the Hawkesbury Crown and that sealed her fate, but her finale after that poor start was quite good I thought. Prior efforts were very good and her best is clearly good enough to win.
10 Arctic Glamour (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to be humming. Ryan/Alexiou trained mare that hasn’t raced since contesting the Wenona Girl when first up…well I say first up, but it was pretty much a barrier trial, getting badly held up in behind, the race won by Commemorative, who was massive in The Galaxy. Given a break, trialled enormous, keen to see how she goes.
Race 8. (15:57) Stradbroke Hcp 1400m
Given the depth in this Stradbroke is thin, I keep coming back to the class, which is clearly 1 Private Eye (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). He is the best horse, by an absolute mile, and yes he is first up, but he has had four trials to get ready, so I don’t think fitness will be an issue. Plus, good speed in front, he’ll get every chance to launch late.
7 War Machine (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat after his win in the BRC Sprint. There was a lot of class, quality and arrogance about the way he put them away and how strong he was in the run to the line. He missed out on the Group l in the Spring but I do think he gets a golden chance to get it here.
9 Punch Lane (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday in the Moreton Cup. He just found them too sharp over 1200m and while he was outsprinted, he actually picked up and was quite good late in the piece. Like him on the back up, up in trip, will press forward…I say he only runs well.
Race 9. (16:30) The Q22 2200m
1 Fawkner Park (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) won this race last year and looks on track to repeat the dose. He comes through the Doomben Cup from three weeks ago where he got too far back and while he was never threatening Antino, he kept finding the line when second. Back on the bigger track, 2200m, he appeals.
4 Kovalica (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect. He ran third in the Doomben Cup where he seemingly had his chance but he stayed on and was pretty good in defeat depite being safely held by Antino. 2200m is no issue, he has upside, rates highly.
6 Bankers Choice (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was a few weeks between runs when racing in the Lord Mayors two weeks back at Eagle Farm when on speed throughout and he tried hard but just felt the pinch late. Like him up to 2200m and firmer footing helps the cause.
