Nine races will be run and won on the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out eight metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (11:50) Barossa Fine Foods Mdn 1000m
Despite the wide gate, I’m with 6 Taunting (Bet Now: $3.00), on debut for Michael Hickmott. Thought his trial here on Monday was a lovely piece of work. He won the trial without really being extended by Jess Eaton and went about his business nicely. If he can overcome the wide gate, I think he’s one of the hardest to beat.
9 Lamoree (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Team Jolly trained filly that resumes. This girl debuted at Murray Bridge back in January when heavily backed. Despite sitting wide no cover, I thought she was quite weak late when third to Saasmit. Jumped out on the course proper here last Tuesday when leading and going through the motions under a hold. Draws well and has early speed.
2 Chef Militaire (Bet Now: $126.00) would love a rise in trip so remaining at 1000m I’m not sure about but I thought his debut here two weeks ago was solid enough. He was run off his legs early and while he was never really a winning factor, his finale was more than sound. Doubt he wins, but can sneak a first four spot.
Race 2. (12:25) 36 Degree South Beef Mdn 1000m
2 Utah Joe (Bet Now: $6.50) on top. Looked a good thing at Strathalbyn on Wednesday but with that meeting washed out, he runs here. Resumed at that track and was very good late after spotting the eventual winner a tidy start. If he can get luck from the draw, he has the finale to overhaul this lot.
10 Misty Trails (Bet Now: $4.60) looks suited here I feel. Debuted last Wednesday over 1100m at Gawler. Market took a set against her late and it was proven right. Landed on speed and tried hard, but just felt the pinch late when third to Lady Simone. I reckon back to 1000m suits, as does the Parks track with the on speed racing pattern.
7 Delta River (Bet Now: $16.00) is an interesting runner. Daughter of All Too Hard for Ryan Balfour that is on debut. She trialled here on Monday and I thought she went about her business quite nicely when second. The time was nothing flash, but liked the way she moved, so watch the market.
Race 3. (13:00) Fleurieu Milk Company (bm68) 1550m
1 Jaguary (Bet Now: $3.80) should love the rise to 1550m. Was five weeks between runs when racing over 1400m here two weeks ago and despite the break between runs, he was very strong late and was too good. You’d suspect there is only upside to come so has to be hard to beat here.
9 Mustari (Bet Now: $4.20) is racing well for Phillip Stokes. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where he was back in the run and spotted them a decent start in a race shape that didn’t suit. He found the line pretty well but clearly had his chance behind She’s Stylish. Overall, this isn’t a strong race, so he gets respect.
10 Monraaj (Bet Now: $26.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Luckless here two back before racing last Wednesday at Gawler where the track was very shifty and I just don’t think that suited him at all. Think he’s going well and while I doubt he wins, he’s a must include for exotics.
Race 4. (13:35) Weslo Security (bm60) 1300m
I want to give 3 Lady Bethany (Bet Now: $6.00) another chance. The stable did the seven day back up successfully last Saturday with Lord Bouzeron and hoping it is the case here with this mare. She was luckless last Saturday. Just got a mile out of her ground but worked home strongly without threatening. Hard to beat if she gets sight of the bunny.
4 Ambidazzle (Bet Now: $2.90) is bursting to win another race for Phillip Stokes. She has placed in three of her last five, her last start coming here two weeks ago when a narrow second to Jaguary, just missing out on the win in a close finish. Just has to hold her form to go close to beating these.
11 Enchantingly (Bet Now: $14.00) is a former Chris Waller mare that had her first run for Scott Westover here two weeks ago. She was unwanted in betting but despite that, I thought she ran a super race when second to Fall On A Star. Tick over trial on Monday was a good piece of work and when with Waller, she did get better as the prep went on, so keen to see how she goes.
Race 5. (14:15) Furphy (bm68) 1250m
2 Imperial Hilton (Bet Now: $3.60) for me. Patrick Payne trained three year old that was an impressive fresh winner at city level in Melbourne when finishing best from off the speed to win at Sandown. Small field offsets the wide and with the claim for an in form Opperman, he’s the one to beat IMO.
1250m is the query with 4 Winning Weather (Bet Now: $3.00). If this was 1000m, she’d be a good thing. Loved the way she chased to win fresh over 1000m at Murray Bridge three weeks back when beating the older horses, but the knock is the form out of that is suspect, and along with 1250m, I think while she can win, I can’t dive into her with confidence.
3 Koruto (Bet Now: $6.50) should prove hard to beat against his own age. Took on the older horses at Murray Bridge three weeks ago where he was wide throughout but for the meeting, sitting wide wasn’t overly a negative and he was far too good for them. Harder here, but in form and back to his own age, he appeals.
Race 6. (14:55) Chalk Hill (bm68) 1000m
I’ll take a chance with the former Lindsey Smith galloper 1 Lido Beach (Bet Now: $3.10), who finds himself in SA now under the care of Michael Hickmott and we know the record the stable has at improving a tried horse. One thing about this horse is that he is a 1000m specialist, which is a big tick, and he likes wet ground.
10 Hills (Bet Now: $3.30) is a Will Clarken mare who looks to have returned in good order. Resumed at Murray Bridge three weeks back in a similar race to this and worked home strongly from the back, just missing out on the win when a close up third to Winning Weather. Second up record is plain but this is the first proper prep that Clarken has had her.
4 Beeokay (Bet Now: $20.00) has a pretty solid third up record and can easily bounce back here. Wide no cover fresh behind Extreme Thrill before going to Murray Bridge when back and failing to come on behind Winning Weather. Ryan Hurdle has a good record on this horse, so an improved showing is on the cards.
Race 7. (15:35) The Junction (bm60) 1300m
Bit of a throw at the stumps in the shape of 5 Rothmoore (Bet Now: $6.00), a Ricky Moore trained galloper that resumes. Hasn’t raced since August 15 when down the track over 1500m behind Pearl Bandit after being so hard in the market. He races well on the Parks track with fresh legs and Stubby rides the horse better than anyone.
10 Wounded Soldier (Bet Now: $12.00) has a good record on the Parks track and his best is good enough to be dangerous here. He ran here two weeks ago when back and wide in the run. Presented to win at the top of the straight but couldn’t quite get there when fifth to Fall On A Star. Dangerous if he can sit a pair or two closer in the run.
11 Bullet Kid (Bet Now: $6.50) looks back on track. Thought he was a bit plain at Murray Bridge so the stable backed up a week later and he reacted when racing here and closing off well late behind Fall On A Star. Prior to Murray Bridge, he was in a purple patch, so giving him respect.
Race 8. (16:15) Tab (bm72) 1950m
7 Exalted Beast (Bet Now: $3.20) is racing really well at the moment for Grant Young. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where he was given a peach by Ryan Hurdle and looked home when the go button was pushed. Just found one better in Call Me Shamus but they spanked the rest, so that form I do like for this winnable assignment.
11 Star Status (Bet Now: $9.50) is flying for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable and the rise to 1950m should suit. Ran over the mile at Murray Bridge three weeks ago and worked to the line with real purpose I thought behind Dr Dee Dee in a good effort. Got more upside than most and has a liking for this track.
10 Does It (Bet Now: $6.50) has been up a little while for Team Jolly but continues to race quite well. Was bursting to win a race and it finally came last Wednesday at Gawler. Lovely ride from Toeroek, he found the best ground and in a slog, was too good. Now he has a win on the board, he can go on with it.
Race 9. (16:55) Nigel Tippett's 60th (bm72) 1250m
10 Extra Mile (Bet Now: $11.00) is a pretty consistent animal for Team Jolly that should prove hard to beat. Was 1100m back to 1000m when racing a few weeks back at Murray Bridge. Thought he was there to win and put them away but couldn’t when a close up third to Winning Weather. Despite not winning, he is racing well and I feel a win is near. Hoping it is here.
9 Echoes In Eternity (Bet Now: $3.20) deserves another win and she gets her chance here. Should have won two weeks ago here. Just no luck at all at a vital stage before eventually getting clear and just missing out on the win when second to La Richesse. Better luck this time around and she can get the job done.
2 Midnight Storm (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing so well at the moment for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. Five weeks between runs since winning on the course proper here during the Carnival when getting a lovely rail hugging steer from Stubby. Gets the claim, so in well in that regard, and the form around him does read well.
