Race 1. (15:39) Drummond Golf Plate 1000m
8 Strideaway (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a good mover for Neville Parnham. Daughter of Alabama Express that trialled at Belmont last week where she was tucked in behind the speed and had plenty up the sleeve, running fifth, but I reckon she wins if she had clear air. Drawn out, so she gets clear air this time around and confident she measures up.
10 Why She Stayed (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a daughter of Microphone that is on debut off the back of a couple of trials, both over 950m at Lark Hill, the latest seeing her beat one horse but moved well on speed. Once clicked up, she drew clear and was dominant. Keen to see how she goes.
5 Statewide (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Tassort colt for Neville Parnham that ran third in the Belmont trial mentioned above. He was held up at times as well before edging into clear air and was good late when third. He looks a good mover and the stable can get their early juveniles ready. Watch the market.
Race 2. (16:18) Tabtouch - Westspeed Platinum (Rs0ly) 1100m
7 Let’s Talk (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is hard to beat I say. Jim Taylor trained gelding that debuted over 1000m at Northam. He was on speed and seemed to be trucking before being clicked up and he found under pressure to fend them off and win. Good racing style and this isn’t a deep contest.
6 Cocktail Party (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect. Luke Fernie trained mare that ran over 1100m at Northam last time when looking like she was going to win but she wanted to lay in under pressure and pretty much threw the race away behind Pin Deep. If she runs straight, she’ll go close here.
5 Norich (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a track/distance winner and despite a tricky gate, I think he is one of the leading contenders. He resumed at Belmont when near the speed throughout and tried his guts out but first up, condition just gave way late behind Oregon Hiker. Improvement to come, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 3. (16:58) Swan Draught (Bm66+) 2200m
4 Simply (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), I think. has a bit on these. He was 1600m to 2200m and on the seven day back up when racing two weeks ago at Belmont where he got a 12/10 by Pike and in a driving go, finished best. He has that 2200m run under the belt, Pike sticks…I think good luck beating him.
1 Filthy Habits (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran second to Simply in the race mentioned above. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a very strong kick under Fiore but just found Simply a touch too good. He has the right racing pattern and if he gets control, he’ll take running down.
5 Stop Dreaming (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Luke Fernie after racing last Saturday in the Kalgoorlie Cup where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, he kept finding the line in a good effort behind Starry Heights. Hard fit, in form, he commands respect.
Race 4. (17:33) Thank You Colin Brown (Rs1mw) 1800m
8 Be Bardot (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very progressive mare for Team Williams and happy to be in her corner. 2/2 this time in, the latest over 1400m at Belmont where she gave them a start and a beating and was impressive once again, like she was first up. Jumps straight to 1800m and a tricky draw, but it’s all upside with her.
6 Great Fortune (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for David Harrison and commands respect. He was a tough winner at Bunbury two back before going to Belmont where he led throughout and he gave them a spanking in a dominant performance. That was over the mile and the rise to 1800m is fine.
13 Paigey’s Turn (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has a good record at Ascot and is an improver at odds. She finished down the track behind Great Fortune where she was back in a race dominated on speed so she was never a factor. Think with a more genuine tempo here, she can run a much improved race at odds.
Race 5. (18:09) Quayclean (Rs1mw) 1400m
9 Miss Skyhigh (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Team Williams trained mare that hasn’t quite set the world on fire in two runs back but does appear suited at 1400m at Ascot. She ran over this trip at Belmont four weeks ago and was okay late without threatening behind stablemate Trio. Hard fit, Pike sticks, should get a drag into the race and launch late.
14 Arcadia Knight (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran fourth in the race mentioned above won by Trio. He was a little unlucky not to be in the finish, just getting held up on occasions before eventually getting clear and was good late in the piece. If the breaks go his way, he can win, but I do think if he was going good enough, Pike would ride.
4 Thehorseman (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of these horses that does drive at either Ascot or Belmont and not the other. He does save his best for Ascot so with that in mind, he’s dangerous at odds. He ran at Belmont two weeks back and was solid late without threatening behind Without Reg. Back to Ascot, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 6. (18:45) Mrs Mac's (Bm78+) 1400m
12 Wango Award (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Team Williams and is the way I am leaning in what I feel is a race in two. She ran over this trip three weeks ago at Belmont where she got back to near last but presented wider and launched late, just missing out on the win when second to Desert Nymph. If she can settle closer, she takes beating.
5 Rope Them In (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) could put his hand up for the Railway with a win here. He has won at 1400m previously but he hasn’t really dominated at the trip so if he can here, the Railway is on the cards I say. Dominant first up win over 1200m a fortnight back and the rise in trip is ideal. Hard to beat.
1 Mojo Rhythm (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Mitch Pateman trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since June 15 at Belmont when back near last and just whacked to the line late in the piece behind Oly’s Choice. Trial work has been sound and his best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 7. (19:23) Pinnacles Carnival (Bm66+) 1200m
7 Sentimental Belle (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a beauty for Team Williams and commands respect here. She ran at Belmont a fortnight back over this trip where she got back, wide, and did make up some ground, but was never really a factor behind Rope Them In. If she can get a drag and be within range, she will be hard to hold out.
16 Miss Flirtatious (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to have returned in super order and for mine, is hard to beat. She resumed over 1000m at Belmont two weeks ago where the market said she was a good thing and despite a few nervous moments, she was far too good. If she can stretch her brilliance to 1200m, she’s going to take beating here.
13 Wubin Gold (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Colin Webster trained mare that resumes, having not raced since March 30 over the mile here when down the track behind Tin Chooks, who looked a Railway horse prior to injury. Trialled well at Belmont and although she’ll spot them a start, she should be strong at the end.
Race 8. (19:58) Max Simmonds Stakes 1000m
14 Golden Kathleen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has the runs on the board and with a class edge, I am leaning her way. She resumes after a very strong 2YO season, where she was second seed behind Bustling as the best juvenile in WA, running some very credible races behind him. Resumes off a quiet trial and is better suited over further but she has class on her side and is very well in at the weights.
8 Sinful Living (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a short course specialist for Team Pearce and is suited here. She is three weeks between runs since a strong win over 1000m at Belmont, leading throughout and giving nothing else a look in. Tricky draw, but hard fit, in form, Pike sticks, good racing style, hard to beat.
13 Golden Vale (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) creates interest. She was the top juvenile in WA around this time last year pre Bustling but when she took on the better ones, she didn’t quite measure up. Resumed on Aug 31 at Belmont and was good late from off the speed behind stablemate Madhi Girl. Doubt she wins, but a must for exotics.
Race 9. (20:39) Schweppes (Bm72+) 1000m
12 Toropa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) to win for me here. Her unbeaten run came to an end two weeks ago at Belmont where they led and I think that was a touch warm for her, just tiring late when second to Rpe Them In. I do think back in trip is fine and with a bunny to chase, more patient steer, she takes beating I say.
5 Live To Tell (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Simon Miller trained mare that resumes, having not raced since Feb 24 over 1200m when back off the speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort behind Ice Pick Nick but was spelled soon after. Good fresh horse and has trialled up really well for the return. Hard to beat.
6 Almighty Class (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) creates interest. Mitch Pateman trains this four year old, who is first up after racing in The Quokka in the Autumn when outclassed behind Overpass. Been given a good break with this Carnival in mind and has trialled well for the return. Watch the market.
