Nine races will be run and won at Sandown Hillside this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (9) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:50) Ive > Print Hcp 1000m
3 Winning Revolution (Bet Now: $2.70 TOP ODDS) is a beauty for Peter Moody. This juvenile has had two career outings. Pushed Aitch Two Oh all the way on debut in the Without Fear at Morphettville before going to Sale where he was there to be run down but found under Nolen and fended off Eros to win well, just. He’s a fighter and has the hard race experience/fitness under the belt.
12 Boogie Dancer (Bet Now: $4.50 TOP ODDS) looks a filly with talent. She’s had a couple of jumpouts to get ready for start one, the latest being a strong win from off the speed on the Synthetic at Pakenham. Appears to be well educated for start one and on breeding, wet ground should be okay.
2 Penultimate One (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) is on the seven day back up for Rod Symons after winning last Saturday at Bendigo. He was unwanted in betting but he seemingly got through the mud best late, driving hard late to win. How strong was the race? Not sure, but he has the hard run under the belt and bit of juice in the track will be no issue.
Race 2. (12:25) Ladbroke It Hcp 1000m
3 Ashford Street (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) is an absolute beauty for Ken Elford. Got the A1 run in transit at Caulfield last time and he duly saluted, bolting up under Teo Nugent. Run prior behind Easy Single was very good at Flemington, so hard to knock the way he is racing at the moment.
5 Starry Legend (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS), I think, could be a flat track bully, and his chances will be known soon after jumping. He either needs to lead or get control outside the leader. He had to chase a very fast Young Liam two weeks ago at Caulfield and got the better of him, but couldn’t hold out Ashford Street. I think he can bounce back.
8 Whipcracker Way (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) is knocking on the door. He was somewhat luckless two back here behind Starry Legend before going to Caulfield when beaten narrowly by an in form Jigsaw. Good record when he gets his toe in and down in the weights, he’s a key threat.
Race 3. (13:00) Ladbrokes Switch (Bm70) 1600m
1 Rusutsu (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) looks really well placed in a race like this. Former UK mare that made her Australian debut for Team Freedman over 1400m on the Lakeside track here and she was a real eye catcher from near last in the run behind Mitilda. Reckon she might want one more, but fitter and up to the mile looks a set up for her to take beating.
7 Vittoriosa (Bet Now: $3.90 TOP ODDS) is knocking on the door for WaterBott. Ran on the Lakeside track here last time out and tried her guts out in the straight, trying to come back and beat Princess Rhaenys, but that mare just had a bit too much class and was too good, just. That form is strong for a race like this. Just doesn’t want the track too wet.
6 Moscow Red (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) is a swimmer so she gets conditions to suit. She was good on a bottomless at Warrnambool two back before finding firmer footing at Ballarat and she actually wasn’t too bad from the back. Gets back on a bog, back to Mares grade, she’s a definite winning chance.
Race 4. (13:35) Thoroughbred Club Hcp 1600m
3 Star Of Chaos (Bet Now: $2.90 TOP ODDS) looks the pony to beat based on her absolute spank job win on the Lakeside track here last Wednesday where she lapped up the bog surface and gave them a spanking. Clearly has a liking for wet ground so with that in mind, I have to be in her corner.
6 Bold Hoi Ho (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) is unbeaten in two career outings for Patrick Payne. Arrogant debut win at Bendigo before proving that was no fluke at Sale when ridden with a sit and launching late to win well. Good test for him here, but stable is flying and the scratchings have made this field thin.
9 General Firepower (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) isn’t far off a win I feel. Looked all over a winner two back but was nabbed on the peg at Flemington. He then went to Caulfield and was far from disgraced in defeat when close up behind Hopon Harry. Kind map and a jockey upgrade, he’s a key threat.
Race 5. (14:10) Tile Importer (Bm78) 1300m
8 Arranmore (Bet Now: $13.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but that doesn’t reflect her true ability. Ran over 1400m at Flemington three weeks ago…well, it was essentially a barrier trial. She had no luck in the straight and went to the line under a hold. If she gets clear air this time around, she can win for sure.
1 Adele Amour (Bet Now: $4.20) is racing in a purple patch for John Sadler. Thought there was a bit of quality about her win at Flemington last start, aided by a peach from Kelly, who weaved her way through the ruck and drove hard to win. Creeping up in the relative weights, but hard to knock the way she’s racing.
6 Rioyuki (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Beetroot Williams trained filly that resumes. She did a pretty good job during the Spring/Summer, which ended with a far from disgraced effort in The Vanity behind Barb Raider, who is the best 3YO filly in Victoria. Couple of jumpouts to get ready, I think she’ll run well fresh.
Race 6. (14:45) Ladbrokes Mates Mode (Bm78) 2400m
1 Monbaher (Bet Now: $5.50) looks a progressive import for Matt Cumani. Two Australian runs have been strong, winning in dominant fashion at his Australian debut at Ballarat. He then went to 2100m on the Lakeside track here and closed off well, but was no match for the finale of Reuber. He’ll eat up 2400m and wetter the better.
3 Gate Crash (Bet Now: $2.90) is putting together a good little record. Strong winner on the Lakeside track here last Wednesday, defying a betting drift and giving nothing else a look in late in a dominant display. He’s got more to come and confident he can measure up here.
11 Mimi’s Award (Bet Now: $26.00) isn’t far off a win. She ran behind Reuber here last start and while she was never a winning threat given where she was in the run, I thought she hit the line okay for a mare that will appreciate a rise in trip, and she does love getting her toe in. Knockout hope.
Race 7. (15:20) Ladbrokes Mega Multi (Bm78) 1600m
4 Falls (Bet Now: $13.00) loves wet ground, loves this track, looks ready to peak…happy to back him each way. He ran two weeks ago at Caulfield and I thought warmed to the task nicely late behind D’Aguilar. He is a swimmer and Olly clicks with him, so I’ll back him each way.
1 Chief Altony (Bet Now: $6.50) is another that swims so he gets conditions to suit. Lapped up the mud when winning last Wednesday on the Lakeside course here, powering over the ground to win with real authority. Proven Saturday metro performer, he’ll take beating here.
13 Good And Proper (Bet Now: $20.00) should be suited up in trip for Matt Ellerton. Talented mare that resumed two weeks ago over 1400m at Caulfield and while she was never a winning threat, her finale was more than sound behind D’Aguilar, a promising animal, so the form reads well.
Race 8. (16:00) Ladbrokes Same Race Multi-Bm84 1300m
11 Sig Positano (Bet Now: $3.30) is crying out for further and a bigger track and voila he gets that set up here. All three runs this time in have come over 1200m, the latest being two weeks ago at Caulfield when a mile back in the run but finished off with purpose late in the piece behind Jigsaw. Eats up an extra 100m here and is hard to beat.
5 Beehunter (Bet Now: $6.00) is flying for John Sadler. Market wanted him with confidence when racing a few weeks back at Flemington over 1400m and he was very good from the back when close up in defeat behind Triple Missile. If he can be within range with a drag into the race, he’ll be hard to hold out.
16 Nerone (Bet Now: $21.00) is one of these horses for the meeting that swims and could easily be smashed in betting at $26+. He lumped 61kg to win on a very testing track at Echuca last time, knuckling down strongly to win. Right down in the weights, he’s a must back at the price.
Race 9. (16:34) Ladbrokes Punter Assist Hcp 1800m
10 Royal Mile (Bet Now: $10.00) looks ready to rock and roll. Three weeks between runs since contesting the RA Lee on the course proper here where he stuck on and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Belle Plaisir. Not sure he’s quite up to Stakes grade, so this looks really good placement.
6 Mankayan (Bet Now: $2.80) is one of these Maher/Eustace gallopers that could be the 2022 version of Persan/Grand Promenade, that goes through their grades, keeps winning and ends up in a Melbourne Cup. Unlucky not to get to a Melbourne Cup last year but his first up win at Caulfield was impressive and he looks as if he’ll keep improving and potentially keep winning. Really good horse.
Great to see 1 Persan (Bet Now: $10.00) back at the races. He hasn’t raced since the Melbourne Cup where near the speed and dropped right out behind champion mare Verry Elleegant. Clearly he is better suited over further, but we have seen in recent weeks these Maher/Eustace stayers can fire fresh and he loves wet ground.
