11/2/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Canterbury

Night racing heads to Canterbury this Friday for a seven race program. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Going to speck 11 Galactic Angel (Bet Now: $5.50) each way in the opener. Anthony Cummings trained filly that resumed over 1400m at Warwick Farm in a race dominated by those on speed and she just couldn’t dash quick enough from off the pace. Hopefully gate one is used to advantage, she can settle closer in the run and dry deck, rail true, I suspect the fence in run scenario to be the A1 spot.

2 Aton Of Delight (Bet Now: $3.10) comes through the same race Galactic Angel contested. He was one of the first off the bit but he didn’t stop chasing in a pretty good return to finish third, the winner being a handy horse in Russian Ruble. To my eye, he looks a 2000m+ on a big track, so not sure this set up suits, but he has talent.

7 Spitfire (Bet Now: $6.50) has been around the mark throughout his career without winning. Sat near the speed at this track/distance two weeks back and tried hard, but was clearly no match for impressive winner The Artefact, who spanked them from the front. Has the right racing pattern. Just not sure he has the killer blow to win, so include in multiples.

If you trust the Silent Impact form, which I do, then 2 Spellcatcher (Bet Now: $2.90) is the one to beat. As good as Reece Jones is, he fair dinkum butchered this horse at Randwick behind Silent Impact. Should have won but Jones, to the eye, seemed to initially want to get to the outside of the wayward Moridan, but that horse wanted a beer on the outside fence, so Spellcatcher had to stop, cut back to the inside and charged late. Normal luck here and I think he wins.

4 California Surreal (Bet Now: $3.30) looks a talented filly but I can’t get her anywhere near Spellcatcher in the market as it currently has. Visually, a sharp win here first up, but she beat nothing and has a wide draw to overcome. If she gets luck from the gate, she’ll be around the mark, and is the threat, but from a betting perspective, she’s way too short.

11 Vivid Flash (Bet Now: $12.00) is one I could speck as a saver at odds. Resumes for Chris Waller, having not raced since a strong debut win at the Gold Coast when producing a strong finale from off the speed to score. Looked to go well in a recent trial win and draws soft. Knockout chance at a good price.

The rise to 1900m I find interesting with 3 Jungle Book (Bet Now: $4.00). Even though he was held up slightly in a Highway at Randwick a fortnight back, I’m just not sure 1800m is his go at that level. To my eye, he seems more effective at the mile, so 1900m back to Friday night grade I think is interesting, but the big tick is gate one. He’ll do no work and the likely pattern is in his corner. If he’s ever going to run strongly beyond a mile, it’s here.

1 Nordic Pride (Bet Now: $5.50) is a very interesting runner. Ben Brisbourne trains this gelding, who hasn’t raced since New Years Day when down the track and finishing a mile back behind Unique Artist. Prior form was sound for a race like this and stable does have success when they go on the road.

6 Rock The Bells (Bet Now: $5.50) has found winning form…can he go on with it now? It took a thin Class 1 at Bathurst to get the win but it was a win and a strong win from off the speed after a string of close up efforts. How often do we see these horses that take forever to win one that they finally win one then put it together.

5 In Lighten Me (Bet Now: $14.00) is worth an each way ticket. Ryan/Alexiou trained mare that ran over 1400m at Warwick Farm last start and didn’t quite get the rub of the green. Whether she was going good enough to threaten, I doubt it, but she should have finished closer. Like her back to 1250m, gets a suck run from the gate and her best is definitely good enough.

3 Sweet Angeline (Bet Now: $4.50) looks primed to run well here. Blinkers go on for her second run for the WaterBott camp after resuming over this track/distance when warming to the task late in a good effort behind Bergen. Interesting to see if they slide forward or opt for a sit. Either way, she’s a key threat.

4 Ciccina (Bet Now: $6.00) is a promising mare for Kris Lees that I dare say has eyes on the Provincial Championships with this mare, who has won four of six. Those wins came in Northern NSW/QLD in races much weaker than this, but the fact the stable resume her in town here tells me they think she can measure up.

Happy to be with 1 Bergen (Bet Now: $4.60). He blitzed them at this track/distance last time out, where he got his perfect set up: The lead and a dry deck. Once he got control, it was race over and he was dominant. More depth here, and not sure he leads, but if he does, I think he wins again.

11 Sessions Road (Bet Now: $5.00) looks to be back on track. Jury was out after a couple of plain runs but I liked the way he found the line a few weeks back over 1100m here when third to Bugalugs. Returned to positive form last time and I think the rise to 1250m suits, plus Bowman sticks.

9 Accelerato (Bet Now: $6.00) isn’t far off a win for Joe Pride. He tried hard behind Bergen two weeks back but that horse controlled in front and gave nothing else a look in, but this guy worked to the line pretty well. If he can use the inside gate to advantage, I think he’ll only run well.

Looks to be a stack of speed engaged here, so want to be on a closer and 2 Sixgun (Bet Now: $3.90) is that horse. He’s come back in really good order. Both runs this time in have come at Warwick Farm and each run he has hit the line with purpose, so the rise to 1100m I do like and he’ll be strong late.

10 Miss Jay Fox (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Bjorn Baker trained mare that will be near the speed and proving hard to get past. Last couple of runs have come here, the latest over 1250m when down the track behind Jal Lei after sitting on speed and tiring late. Back to 1100m with fresh legs, she can bounce back.

8 Park Avenue (Bet Now: $9.50) is a son of Fastnet Rock for Team Freedman that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Spring Carnival when down the track in the Gothic at Caulfield in what has been a pretty ordinary form reference subsequent, but he does have talent when right and has looked to trial up well enough.

1 Off Shaw (Bet Now: $2.90) is knocking on the door to win for Bjorn Baker. Attempted to lead throughout at Warwick Farm last time and he gave a really good kick, but was outgunned late by Marnix. Gets J Mac to steer and if he can find the front, I think he’ll take beating on this track.

7 Zoumon (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of Zoustar for the WaterBott camp that resumes. He’s a three year old with staying form so 1550m here fresh tells me that this is not a waste of a first up run and that he comes here to run well. Couple of solid trials to get ready, so keen to see how he goes.

12 Fill Of Fun (Bet Now: $19.00) is big odds for a horse that will be on speed with a lightweight. Good front running steer form Blake Spriggs saw her win impressively fresh at Newcastle, albeit in a race much weaker than this, but she was strong enough to the line and was only first up, so you’d like to think there is improvement to come.

NEXT BEST: Race Seven Number 1 Off Shaw

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 5 In Lighten Me
