10/10/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ballarat, Seymour Cup day

A bumper nine race program has been set down for Ballarat this Sunday where it is Seymour Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out six metres from the 2200m-1600m; True for the remainder.

6 Flying Artist (Bet Now: $2.70) for me. Price/Kent trained gelding that resumes. Hasn’t raced since his debut back in May at Sale when on speed and fighting on really well in defeat when third to Madame Bolli, who has since gone on to be a Saturday metro winner. Looked sharp in a recent jumpout win at Coleraine and is hard to beat here fresh.

5 Fly On Bye (Bet Now: $4.80) is the key threat. Team Kavanagh trained three year old that has had little luck in two runs back from a break. Wide no cover in both runs but has stayed on and been quite sound in defeat. Gets run of the race from the draw here and is a leading contender.

3 Keiichi (Bet Now: $17.00) will put himself on speed and try hard. Backed with confidence last time out in a Swan Hill but after leading, he didn’t find much in the straight and was quite plain I thought behind Halobel. Bit of gear tinkering upstairs to try and switch him on and gets a jockey upgrade.

Tricky maiden to sort out with confidence. Landed with 2 Magic City (Bet Now: $12.00) but not a great deal of confidence. He resumed at Bendigo when back off the speed and worked home okay late in the piece behind Mornington Glory, who ran well last Saturday, so the form reads well and the depth here isn’t as strong.

8 Free Market (Bet Now: $3.30) looks hard to beat for the Price/Kent team. Backed with confidence when resuming in a Geelong maiden and if you were on, you would have been disappointed he got beat, but it was a narrow third in a strong maiden, stronger than what he faces here. Just needs to overcome the draw.

11 Oriental Legend (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Snitzel colt for John Sadler that is on debut. He’s had a couple of jumpouts at Caulfield to get ready for start one and has looked pretty progressive. Stable did have a lean run for a little while, but the last couple of weeks, they’re finding form again, so watch the market.

I want to give 11 Fazzabeel (Bet Now: $3.60) another chance. Chris Waller trained gelding that has had two career outings. Really caught the eye late on debut at Bendigo. Then wen to Cranbourne when an alarming drifter in betting and ran accordingly. Tinkering with the head gear and back to 1400m, off the debut run, he’s hard to beat.

12 Lastar (Bet Now: $3.10) is a son of Zoustar that is bursting to win his maiden. Second two back at Echuca, then finished runner up again at Benalla last time behind an impressive winner, Villaden. The form around him reads well and is ready to win one…whether it’s here or not, not sure.

13 Yaroomba (Bet Now: $21.00) should be suited up in trip for the Price/Kent team. Debuted over 1100m at Horsham where he attempted to lead throughout and just tired late behind Spinning, who has proven metro form, so that reads well. Perhaps with a more conservative steer, he’ll be more effective.

5 Maracana (Bet Now: $2.20) for me. Danny O’Brien trained filly that was an impressive debut winner at Kyneton. Took a while to get going but once she got clear air and balanced up, gee she really attacked the line and was impressive. 1400m looks ideal, bigger track a tick…think she can make it 2/2.

4 Tramontana (Bet Now: $2.60) is racing very well at the moment for Team Hayes. Bolted up to break the maiden tag on the Synthetic here two back. Then went to Flemington and was good late in a driving go behind Cuban Link. Should land in a plum spot from the draw and is hard to beat.

2 Serenaur (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Brent Stanley trained colt that bolted up at this track/distance two back in such impressive fashion. That ensured he was hard in the market at the Valley last time but didn’t fire and was a touch disappointing I thought. Back to the scene of the crime, an improved showing is on the cards.

2 Dance Ready (Bet Now: $4.80) is worth an each way speck at the odds. Shane Nicholls trained gelding that should have won last Friday night at the Valley. Had no luck at a vital stage when bolting and by the time he got out, it was too late. Should land in a lovely spot from the gate, hard fit, in form…double figures is more than acceptable.

1 Mystery Island (Bet Now: $3.80) can be a big improver here second up. Backed with confidence first up at Geelong but first up with the big weight over 1700m, perhaps just needed the run. Like him up to 2000m, he’s fitter, got a touch of quality and wouldn’t shock me if he was backed again.

7 Rock The Bowler (Bet Now: $21.00) isn’t racing too bad at the moment. Got a fair way out of his ground at Cranbourne last time and was held up for a few strides before eventually getting clear and was good late behind Pepper’s Ghost. Not sure he wins, but is one for multiples.

Another horse I like at odds, this time 2 Designer Chef (Bet Now: $10.00). He’s a talented galloper for Mark Webb that resumes. Hasn’t raced since May 23 when down the track and looking a tired horse behind Corner Pocket, who is a winning machine and Stakes class, so the form reads super, jumped out well, lands in a plum spot, good fresh record…can’t work out why he is such big odds.

3 Faretti (Bet Now: $3.80) has the right racing pattern and will look the winner for a fair chunk of the race. His concern is the track rating. He did win two back on a Soft6, but he walked them in front. He is a dry tracker, so the track conditions will determine how strong his chances are. If this track is improving, he’ll take beating.

5 Yulong Storm (Bet Now: $12.00) is a beauty for Nathan Hobson that doesn’t really know how to run a bad race. 1400m just found him out at Flemington last time out but was still game in defeat behind Excelida. Big tick he gets back to 1200m, should get three wide cover and launch late.

Double figures for 8 Almsgiver (Bet Now: $7.00) I have to take. I was red hot on his chances first up at Coleraine, but he just wanted to lay in under pressure and spotted those in front too much head start. Two big ticks for him here. Yendall is back on and I think more importantly, the Blinkers are on. They should switch him right on and I think he’ll only run well.

13 Villaden (Bet Now: $2.80) looks a smart three year old for Chris Waller. Smashed in betting when debuting on Benalla Cup Day and #TeamThey knew what they were doing. Sat back, peeled wide, presented clear air and away he went. He was dominant and should prove hard to beat here up to the mile.

3 Deelbrakka (Bet Now: $13.00) should be around the mark for Ryan Balfour. Sat on speed on the Parks track at Morphettville last time out and battled on quite strongly I thought behind a handy horse, Crown Mint. Has to rise a bit in depth here, but has a good racing style and is honest.

At the odds, I have to be with 11 Just Folk (Bet Now: $23.00). He bumps into a smart Team Hayes horse here, but this guy is just flying. Super run in defeat last Saturday at Flemington when a narrow second in the Paris Lane. 1600m is a query, but he gets give in the track, hard fit, in form…$15+ for him is crazy. He should be second favourite.

10 Mr Brightside (Bet Now: $1.95) rises a fair bit in grade/depth, but he’s a very progressive animal for Team Hayes. He has won five on the bounce, the latest coming at the midweeks at Flemington when always in control outside the speed and was far too good. Clearly a harder assignment here, but he’s genuine, right down in the weights and has a good racing style.

1 Harbour Views (Bet Now: $5.00) has done little wrong this time in. Surprised many with his sharp first up win at Flemington. Then went to Sandown and the Sandown Stakes where he tried hard behind Elephant but was safely held by that horse. Off that run, I think he has to be given some level of respect here.

Singing from the same hymn book in finding double figure priced runners and there is one here in the get out, this time with 18 Vitruvius (Bet Now: $6.00). He is fourth emergency, so will need luck getting in, but I thought he was excellent fresh from the back in a really good return, signalling a horse that wants further, which he gets here. Upside, can settle closer in the run…think he’s primed to run a positive race.

12 Flying Mascot (Bet Now: $3.30) is a talented mare for Tom Dabernig that was backed with confidence when resuming at Bendigo and under a lovely ride from Craig Williams, the daughter of Tavistock found plenty under pressure, fended them off and was too good. Maps super again near the front and is hard to beat.

9 Naval Envoy (Bet Now: $10.00) will put himself on speed and try hard. He had the pattern in his corner last time out at Flemington and gave a really good kick but had to settle for a narrow second to Excelida. Not sure he will have a pattern in his corner like last start, but will run an honest race.

BEST BET: Race Four Number 5 Maracana

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 6 Flying Artist

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 18 Vitruvius
