1/2/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Ascot Mile day

A bumper eleven event card has been assembled for Ascot on Saturday. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

1 Atlantis Beach (Bet Now:  $SP.00) tends to race best away from Ascot but his recent efforts have been quite strong and off last start, he takes beating. He ran over 1500m two weeks ago here where he got back to near last in the run and made up good ground without threatening. The rise in trip, I think. is fine, and he strikes a winnable race for mine.

3 King’s Parade (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and commands respect. He won at Mount Barker last time where he got a much needed confidence boost, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. Great record at Ascot, he is a leading contender.

6 Ocean Ranger (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing at Bunbury on Sunday. He got off speed, not using the inside gate to advantage, and just battled late but was good in defeat when beaten a length. Not sure I could back him to win but is one for exotics.

4 Caporetto (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is heading in the right direction. Three year old for Neville Parnham that won at this track/distance last time, getting the sweet sit in transit and finished best when presented clear air on the turn. Bit of a test here but confident he can measure up once again.

2 Cavallo Red (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order for Team Casey. He resumed two weeks over this track/distance when wide no cover but kept finding the line in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Lonsdaleite. If he can get a better run in transit, he’ll take beating.

5 Centre Bond (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Bondi that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Sep 25 at Belmotn when back and held up at times but got clear and worked home strongly behind Uncle Gerard. He can sprint well fresh and the recent trial was encouraging.

5 Want A Winner (Bet Now:  $SP.00) to resume a winner for Team Casey. Thus guy debuted at Belmont in March when an on speed winner and found plenty under pressure to fend them off and get the job done. Had a couple of trials in the Winter without a run. Spelled again and his recent trial win was sharp, with Chris Parnham aboard and he sticks for the return.

1 Keep Ita Mystery (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has class on his side and that is going to carry him a long way towards victory. He resumes for Luke Fernie, having not raced since the Placid Ark when back near last in the run and failed to get involved but was far from disgraced. Resumes without a trial but with class, he commands respect.

8 La Excellence (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Son of Barbados that debuts for Cliff Green off the back of a couple of trials this time in, where he has looked pretty good each time and would be extremely hard to beat in a maiden. The fact he debuts here I find interesting so watch the market.

I am a big fan of 2 Strideaway (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Neville Parnham trains this filly, who had a three run Spring prep, the highlight being start two when a dominant winner. Trialled up super in a win at Belmont last week and although she likely spots them a start, she should be quite strong at the end.

10 Slip The Jab (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a good mover for Luke Fernie and I think he commands respect here. He trialled at Belmont over 400m and while sometimes those trials can be no guide, what I liked from what I saw is that he was asked to respond and he did so impressively. If he runs up to that here, I am confident he measures up.

8 Champagne Crusader (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Universal Ruler gelding for Simon Miller that is on debut. This guy trialled over 1000m at Belmont on Dec 23 when running second and seemingly moved well enough I thought when beaten narrowly. I think watch the market and see what it does.

1 Capricorn Man (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat here I say. He won over 1000m two weeks ago here, getting the sweet sit in behind before angling clear and finished best to win and win well. Three time winner at 1200m, he’s one of the hardest to beat against these.

8 Cessation (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a slight query at 1200m but with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance. That was seen last time down the straight at Pinjarra and tried hard but found a couple better in Just Saint James. If she gets front end control, she’ll take running down.

4 Tinsnip (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Casey trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since July 26 at Broome when attempting to lead throughout over 1800m and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through, tiring late. Better suited over further but has run well in town before…one for exotics.

7 Stormageddon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the winner, all things being equal. She ran over 2100m here two weeks ago where the market said she was there to rock and roll but didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight and it ended up being an ugly watch behind Noteworthy when a close up second to stablemate Noteworthy. Better run in transit here, he’ll take beating.

2 Rocking Society (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given respect. He was a notable drifting favourite in the race mentioned above when doing work out wide for the most part and the hard run just told late. But, I thought he ran a super race in defeat behind Noteworthy. If there is petrol left in the tank, he can take this out.

6 Rommeo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a slight query at 2200m but was a strong winner two weeks back over 1800m here, leading throughout and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and win. Good test here, but think he’ll measure up and run a positive race.

3 Best Mood (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a handy gelding that resumes for Michael Grantham. He is first up, having not raced since July 20 at Belmont when running last behind Miss Drakova after sitting wide no cover throughout. Liked the way he moved in a recent trial and will be strong late, plus has Chris Parnham booked. Market watch for sure.

10 At Your Service (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a talented filly for Luke Fernie that should take beating despite taking on the older horses. She ran over 1200m here last time out where she was wide with cover, keen in the run, but made up good headway when second to All Grunt. Back to a fast run 1100m, she’ll spot them a start but be strong at the end.

8 Princess In Red (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Casey trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Aug 21 at Belmont when not 100% happy on wet ground and just failed to get involved behind Grand Reserve. Given a good break and the trial work to get ready has been strong, so keen to see how she goes. Watch betting.

9 High Commission (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is better suited over further but she is a good mare for Team Williams and I think she can resume with a win. She hasn’t raced since Feb 15 at Ascot where she raced over 1800m and was good late from the back in a strong performance in defeat. Has trialled well, should get three wide cover and launch late.

1 Boab Boy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1500m after resuming over 1200m here where he got off speed and was a bit one paced when asked for the effort but he stayed on and was pretty good in defeat I thought behind Lonsdaleite. Fitter and up in trip, he takes beating in a very winnable race.

3 Great Demon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat off the back of a first up run over 1400m here when back off the speed and kept chasing without threatening when finishing third. Not the best of second up records but this isn’t a race full of depth.

7 Angel Undercover (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be back on track and with that in mind, I say she’ll take a power of beating here. Three weeks between runs since a dominant win over 1200m here, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. If 1400m is fine, which I think it is, she’s one of the hardest to beat.

9 Kings Salute (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. He ran fourth to Angel Undercover in the race mentioned above when resuming. He just looked in need of the run and that’s how it panned out but that said, he was only beaten just over a length. Previous second up winner, he commands respect.

10 Henchard (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for the Maynard camp, having not raced since Dec 21 over 2100m here when off speed and kept chasing without threatening when beaten a few lengths by Rocking Society. Fresh legs and back to 1400m, he’s a definite improvet and is one for exotics.

3 Bonjoy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a bit on these. She was five weeks between runs when a dominant track/distance winner, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. You can only assume there is upside/improvement to come, I think it is a case of good luck beating her.

4 Russian To The Bar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the key and only threat for mine. He ran second to Bonjoy in the race mentioned above. He got back to near last in the run and was good late in the piece when beaten just under a length. He was several weeks between runs so he too has improvement and can settle closer.

1 Alaskan God (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up for Dan Morton, having not raced since resuming in the Lee Steere when back and made up decent headway in defeat I thought behind Casino Seventeen. Resumes without a public but has class and it will carry him a long way.

7 Siberian Siren (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the straight bat play. Team Casey trained mare that resumes, having not raced since July 27 at Belmont when on speed and seemingly had her chance but just failed to finish the job behind Little Silver. Given a good break and has trialled up very well. Happy to be in her corner.

2 Sonoftheboss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has versatility re racing pattern and brings solid enough form to take this out. He ran over 1100m here a fortnight back when ridden with a sit and worked home strongly enough in defeat behind the in form All Play. He can lead, take a sit…whatever the case, he takes beating.

5 King Cartel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) rcomes back to town for Mitch Pateman after an all the way triumph at Mount Barker where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted, producing sustained speed from the front. Back to 1200m no issue, good racing style, he takes beating.
