Weights for Victorian Saturday metropolitan races and Friday night meetings at Moonee Valley are to be released on Monday afternoons, starting from next month.
Currently weights for those meetings are released at 10.30am on Tuesdays, but Racing Victoria will release those weights between 3pm and 5pm on Mondays, beginning with the Makybe Stakes meeting at Flemington on September 3.
Chief handicapper Greg Carpenter said the change from Thursday to Wednesday acceptances, introduced on February 1, had proven to be successful.
If a race has 15 or less entries, it will be extended until 10am Tuesday and weights for that race will be declared shortly afterwards.
The initiative, implemented following consultation with the Australian Trainers’ Association, is designed to support trainers in their decision-making ahead of acceptances on Wednesdays.
