Aidan O’Brien’s ex-Australian superstar So You Think and Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach have, along with the outstanding Canford Cliffs, all been supplemented for the Breeders’ Cup meeting in November.
They were nominated under the new “Open Enrollment (sic)” entry stage at a cost of $US25,000 ($A23,810), the Racing Post reported.
It said although the Richard Hannon-trained Canford Cliffs carries the colours of the Heffer Syndicate, he was nominated by Coolmore alongside his fellow Coolmore-owned Group One winners for the two-day event at Churchill Downs on November 4-5.
O’Brien welcomed the new cut-price entry scheme, which will end on Thursday.
“This open enrolment period has given us the chance to nominate our runners to the Breeders’ Cup at a reduced price than the usual $US100,000 ($A95,238) per horse,” he said in a statement.
“(It is) making it easier for European-based horses to run in the Breeders’ Cup and also gives them future stallion prospects in the American market at the end of their racing careers.”
Meanwhile, the paper said So You Think continued to firm in the betting for Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown and was as short as 8-11 favourite on Tuesday night with last year’s Arc and Derby hero Workforce out to 2-1.
David Williams, head of PR for Ladbrokes, said: “We haven’t gone 2-1 because we’re actively out to get Workforce, it’s purely because we’ve laid some monster bets on So You Think.
“It is all one-way traffic at the moment.
“It’s all happened in the last 24 hours and our book is now incredibly one-sided.
“When you consider that we were 5-4 joint favourites about So You Think and Workforce on Monday morning, it’s been an incredible turnaround.”
