The feature race at Mackay this Saturday is the Mackay Cup (2000m), where the market says it is an open race.

1. Keitel: Gave them a start and a beating to win at Rockhampton. 61kg and 2000m has to be the two big queries.
2. Quothquan: He was very good at Rockhampton and is right on track to run well here en route to defending his Townsville Cup crown. He commands respect.
3. Zoology: Game third at Rockhampton and is best suited up to 2000m, but just not sure what is left in the tank.
4. Mahagoni: Just wanted to see more at Rockhampton but can’t have him.
5. Smart Legend: 1400m straight to 2000m…it’s an ask, but good lead that Cormack is booked to ride vs others who seem better set up.
6. Acrophobic: Can’t see him running the trip shortly enough.
7. Chayse N Artie: He looks outclassed.
8. Hopeful: He’s on track, but I think for Townsville/Cairns more so vs here.
9. Journalism: Toughed it out best to win last Friday, just. He’s flying this horse…just not 100% sold on him running 2000m so he goes through to the keeper.
10. Odegaard: I thought his run in defeat was enormous given the start he spotted, how strongly they ran the race and the fact he was 1300m to 1800m. He has that run under the belt now…if there is petrol left in the tank, I think he’ll run a beauty.
11. Pepperdine: Gallant at Rockhampton but 2000m seems a bridge too far.
12. Falcon Of Malta: Eye catcher when back in trip last start in town. Now back up in trip, he’s one for exotics.

14. The Penske File: He is a horse who will just keep chipping away and 2000m looks ideal. He kept chasing and finding the line last Friday and is right in the mix as a knockout hope.
15. June (First Emergency): First run for new stable after an impressive win at Eagle Farm. Just whether he has eyes on this race, or eyes on Townsville/Cairns.
