A nine race card has been set down for Sha Tin on Wednesday night, with good depth across the program.

Race 1. (21:45) Swan Handicap (Class 5) 1800m
2 Meepmeep (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over the mile here. He got into a decent spot just off the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when fourth. 1800m is fine and should land in a plum spot from the gate.
1 Chater Gold (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is capable with his best. He hasn’t raced since Feb 16 at this track/distance when on speed and just failed to finish his race off. Think with a more patient steer, he can take this out.
8 Tradition (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is suited back up in trip after being 2000m back to the mile last time. He got a fair way out of his ground but didn’t mind the way he picked himself up late in the piece. Back up in trip and fitter, he’s an improver at odds.
Race 2. (22:15) Spoonbill Handicap (Class 5) 1200m
6 The Khan (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is hard to beat I say. He ran over this track/distance last time out where he got back in the run and was held up at times but liked the way he closed off late. If he can settle closer and be within range, he can take this out.
9 Patch Of Watch (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been freshened up since an all the way win here on Feb 12 where he showed good ticker from the front because he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure. Good test here but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
2 Romantic Novelist (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks suited up in trip after resuming over 1000m down the straight where he just looked in need of the run and ran accordingly. Fitter and up to 1200m, he’s a definite improver.
Race 3. (22:45) Peacock Handicap (Class 4) 1650m
1 Thesis (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has a tricky gate to overcome as well as an awful record at Sha Tin but I think he’s racing in career best form and deserves another look at Sha Tin. He is racing very well at present, albeit at Happy Valley. If he can get a decent run from the gate, he’s hard to beat.
2 Shanghai Style (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since a track/distance win. He got into a beaut run in transit just off the speed before angling clear and finished best to score. Tricky draw for him too but has to be respected.
7 Lucky Banner (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given another look. He was kept very safe in betting when resuming at this track/distance when on speed but he didn’t fire in the straight and was a bit on the plain side late. His best is clearly good enough to be dangerous.
Race 4. (23:15) Spoonbill Handicap (Class 5) 1200m
10 Cheer For South (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but gee I reckon he gets a great chance here. Latest run was Feb 12 over this track/distance when off speed and chased with purpose late in the piece when second. Tick over trial was good, can settle closer in the run and still be effective late.
7 Sonic Boom (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. He ran fourth in the race mentioned above, won by Patch Of Watch. He got into a decent spot from the inside gate and was there to win when presented but just whacked to the line when fourth. Tricky gate, but should be around the mark.
4 Sky Prophet (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is capable with his best. He comes through the same race mentioned above, where he did early work from the wide gate and that just told on him late in the piece. Tick over trial was quite good and if he can overcome the draw, he’s going well enough to be dangerous.
Race 5. (23:45) Kestrel Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
4 Patch Of Time (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) seems the straight bat play. He is a few weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance. He got into a decent spot off the speed and was there to win when asked for the effort but just couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow second to Mount Everest. Maps ideally and strikes a winnable race.
2 Solid Shalaa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a David Hayes trained five year old that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since April 20 last year when a closing fourth at this track/distance, getting back and making up decent headway. Extended break but his trial work to get ready has been quite good.
1 Everstar (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to Class 4 grade after racing in Class 3 company, the latest run being a down the track effort at Happy Valley behind Beauty Infinity. His best is clearly good enough to be dangerous against this lot.
Race 6. (00:15) Peacock Handicap (Class 4) 1650m
6 Viva Chaleur (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but I do think he is racing well and should prove hard to beat against this lot. He ran over this track/distance a few weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground but you had to like the way he closed his race off in defeat behind Shanghai Style. If he can get a drag into the race, be within range, he’ll take beating.
3 Precision Goal (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran fifth in the Shanghai Style race mentioned above. He attempted to lead throughout and did give a solid kick from the front but just felt the pinch late in the piece. If he can get front end control, he’ll take running down.
1 Stormi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is back from Class 3 company so he has to be respected on that fact alone. He ran over this track/distance last time out where he got the lead and gave a solid kick from the front bust tired late to finish down the track. Tricky draw, but will press forward and is dangerous at a likely decent price.
Race 7. (00:45) Kestrel Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
2 Fortune Warrior (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. His last couple of runs have come at this track/distance, bolting up two back before a third a few weeks ago where he was on speed and seemingly had his chance. Maps perfect and strikes a winnable race.
6 Vulcanus (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but his best is clearly good enough. He ran over this track/distance last time out where he got back off the speed and worked home well enough without threatening behind Natural High. If he can be within range, he has the finale to win.
3 Rising Force (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Deep Field that is on debut. He has had extensive trial work in readiness for start one, the latest piece of work being a win a couple of weeks ago and seemingly moved well enough. Lands in a good spot from the draw, he’s dangerous. Watch betting.
Race 8. (01:15) Flamingo Handicap (Class 3) 1650m
2 Flamingo Trillion (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps each way. This gelding ran at Happy Valley last time out where he got off speed from the tricky draw and he just couldn’t quite finish the race off behind Fallon. He has a good track/distance record, should land in a plum spot and be strong late.
11 Never Peter Out (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) does tend to save his best for the track/distance and commands respect. He put together three on the bounce before going here again when just off the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish the race off. Been up a while but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
1 Telecom Fighters (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Feb 26 over the mile at Happy Valley. He led and gave a decent sight from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through and felt the pinch late. Not sure he wins but is a first four threat.
Race 9. (01:50) Egret Handicap (Class 3) 1200m
5 Gummy Gummy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for me in the get out. He ran over this track/distance last time when getting the beaut run in transit and angled clear late, finishing strongly to just miss out on the win. Lands in a plum spot from the gate and should take a power of beating.
10 Dragon Air Force (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done little wrong in an eight start career and commands respect. He put together a couple of wins on the bounce before going to this track/distance on Feb 12 when just off speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when second. Tick over trial was good, he appeals.
4 Call Me Glorious (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when landing in a plum spot from the inside gate and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish it off. Tick over trial was quite good and despite the wide gate, he’s a threat.
