Group l racing returns to Sha Tin this Sunday, headlined by the Centenary Sprint Cup (1200m) and the The Stewards Cup (1600m), both at Group l level.

2 Blazing Wind (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning in the opener. This guy ran over this track/distance four weeks ago where he got into a decent spot behind the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when third. J Mac sticks, lands in a plum spot and strikes a winnable race.

5 Divine Moonlight (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Vadamos that is on debut. He has had extensive trial work in readiness for start one, the latest piece of work seeing him win over 1200m and seemed to move well enough, so keen to see how he goes at this level.

11 Meepmeep (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here a few weeks between runs since racing at Happy Valley on Boxing Day where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. Has a gate to settle much closer and still be effective late.

7 Quick Contribution (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks one of the hardest to beat. He debuted at this track/distance on New Years Day where he got back to near last and spotted those in front too much head start but I did like the way he finished his race off in defeat. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and still be effective late.

11 With A Smile (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Merchant Navy that is on debut. This three year old has trialled extensively in readiness for start one, the latest trial seeing him run third last week at Happy Valley and moved well enough I thought. Good lead is Purton booked, so watch the market.

1 Sky Joy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in a two start career and commands respect. Both career outings have come at this track/distance, placing before a sharp win last time when a strong winner from near the speed. Maps ideally and should be effective late.

2 Ballistic Win (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door and I do think he strikes a winnable race. His recent runs have come over 1400m here, the latest being three weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground but liked the way he finished his race off late in the piece behind The Absolute. He can settle closer in the run, he’ll take beating.

4 Matsu Victor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing really well at the moment and is one of the leading contenders. He ran over this track/distance on New Years Day. He got back off the speed but kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind Legend St Paul’s. Good track/distance record and despite the wide gate, he does get J Mac on.

3 Bright Inheritance (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is six weeks between runs since racing over 1800m here. He got back to near last in the run and made up good headway without threatening behind impressive winner Californiatotality. Tick over trial last week at Happy Valley was good and he should be strong late.

10 Forerunner (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned in pretty good order and is hard to beat here I feel after a good return at this track/distance where he got back to near last in the run and made up good headway late in the piece behind The Absolute. If he can settle closer and use the gate to advantage, he takes beating.

6 Etalon Or (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in five career outings and is one of the key chances. Four weeks between runs since a track/distance placing where he was enormous in defeat I thought after doing work from the wide gate, finding strongly to just miss. Better luck in transit here, he will be hard to hold out.

4 Fantastic Fun (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1400m after racing over 1800m two weeks back here. He got a decent enough run in transit from the inside gate but just couldn’t quite get involved, finishing down the track. Like him back in trip and maps to do no work.

7 Noble Fans (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. John Size trained gelding that debuted at this track/distance where he got off speed and spotted those in front a start but kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat I thought behind Solid Win. If he can settle closer, I think he has the engine under the hood to measure up.

6 Shamus Storm (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the debut run, which came at this track/distance where he did work from the wide gate but kept finding the line with purpose in a strong effort, finishing second to Endeared. Maps to settle much closer and still be effective at the end.

9 Jumbo Fortune (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1400m after racing over the mile on the dirt here. He was well tried in betting but didn’t fire and was a bit on the plain side late in the piece. Fresh legs and back in trip here, I think he can run an improved race at odds.

1 Ka Ying Rising (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should win, but do I want to take the shorts? No, because I don’t think he is as good as what everyone else is thinking. Yes, he is the dominant sprinter in Hong Kong, but you put up what he has been beating in Australia, they’d be getting flogged. He’s a star in Hong Kong and is too good for them here, including this race.

7 Beauty Waves (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a lock to run top three I say. He was very good behind Ka Ying Rising in the Sprint, getting back and held up at times but was very good late in the piece. Maps to settle much closer and will be effective late still.

2 Victor The Winner (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can a much improved race at odds. He comes through the Sprint too where he did far too much work on speed and was a beaten horse a fair way out behind Ka Ying Rising. He does race best when leading so if that can eventuate here, he can run top four.

9 Light Years Charm (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks one of the better bets on the card. David Eustace trains this four year old, who has been strong in two runs in Hong Kong, the latest seeing him run fourth after getting a fair way out of his ground. Purton is aboard now and if the inside gate can be used to advantage, he takes beating.

5 Chain Of Gold (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is having his first look at Sha Tin after doing his racing at Happy Valley. Latest run was Dec 11 when keen in the gates and just couldn’t get involved when down the track. Gets Williams on from a kind map and should be strong late.

4 Winning Gold (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best. He ran three weeks back over this track/distance when back from the wide gate and just couldn’t get involved when down the track. He had trialled well prior and he does have talent so don’t dismiss him.

1 Voyage Bubble (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the best horse in the race and I’ll bank on that getting him home. His last run came in the Hong Kong Mile when given a 12/10 by J Mac and he was far too good for them in a dominant display. Trials since have been great and this is weaker than the Mile. Should be winning.

3 Beauty Eternal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous if the top tip is off his game. He attempted to lead throughout in the Mile and gave a strong kick from the front but just lacked the killer blow to put them away late in the piece. If he lands on speed comfortably, he’ll only run well I say.

2 California Spangle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes through the Challenge Cup from New Years Day. He was off speed, unusual for him, and he couldn’t really get involved, finishing down the track. He races best when leading so if that eventuates, he will run a much improved race.

4 Bundle Award (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks ready to win for John Size. He just looked in need of the run fresh behind Johannes Brahms before going to this track/distance two weeks ago and kept finding the line from off the speed in a good effort in defeat behind Packing Angel. Hard fit now, lands in a plum spot and gets J Mac.

1 Packing Power (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He resumes for Danny Shum, having not raced since Nov 17 over 1200m here when on speed and seemed to have his chance but was a bit plain late in the piece. Trial work since has been strong and has a touch of quality so watch the market.

3 Sky Trust (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1400m after racing over the mile in recent times, the latest seeing him attempt to lead throughout and gave a strong kick but just couldn’t quite see it through. Back to 1400m I like and with a more patient steer, he’ll be more effective.

1 Senor Toba (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of two each way specks for me for this meeting. He was big odds at this track/distance last time out but I reckon better than what it reads. He got off speed and kept chasing nicely but just got held up at times late in the piece. He gets in well after the claim and should be strong late.

3 Mickley (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over the mile here last Sunday. He got back but kept chasing and was looking as if he was going to burst through but just couldn’t quite see the gaps and went around like a barrier trial late. If the breaks go his way, he can win.

4 Winning Dragon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout hope. He ran over this track/distance three weeks back when near the speed and presented to win when asked but just found one better in Bravehearts. Lands in a plum spot from the draw and should be around the mark.

11 Aurio (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the each way bet for me in the last. David Hayes trains this gelding, who I do think is sneaky flying. He steps up in trip after racing down the straight in recent runs, each time getting back and catching the eye late in the piece. 1200m should be fine, gets Craig Williams…great gamble I say.

3 Invincible Shield (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the more interesting runners on the card. He was very promising when Tony Gollan had him in Brisbane and looked a Winter Carnival prospect but Hong Kong came calling and he is here. Trial work has been sharp and despite the tricky gate, I say he’ll run really well.

2 Dream Winner (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came down the straight here. He got just off the speed and was never really a factor but far from disgraced behind Baby Crystal. Like him up to 1200m, I wouldn’t be dismissing him.
