As a Group-winning two-year-old, Prost made the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes his own with a new race record of 1:03.25 for the 1100m, with Tim Clark riding for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
Jumping clearly from barrier 1 on a Good 4 track at Rosehill, Tim Clark let King of Roseau make the pace, and tracking him well into the home straight, he raced away at the 150m.
Winning comfortably by half a length as the $3.50 co-race favourite, Adrian Bott said, “He’s strengthened up, and mentally we saw a real professional performance from him.”
“He’s come here today performing very professionally and running class record time, as he’s shown us right from the outset that it was an excellent run in the Breeders’ Plate.”
Previously third to Espionage in the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate over 1000m, Prost went on to finish second to $20m Coolmore stallion buy Storm Boy in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill.
Stepping up to 1600m as a Group-winning three-year-old, Prost scored a dramatic nose victory in the Group 2 $1m Callander-Presnell (Stan Fox Stakes) with Craig Hyeronimus aboard, clocking 1:35.61.
“It was good to see him do it today,” said Adrian Bott. “He was a very talented two-year-old, and it’s good to see him put that on his record at three because he’s a talented three-year-old as well.”
As a Snitzel colt who has won at a mile, Arrowfield notes that Snitzel has averaged one stakes winner every 12 days in the 2024-25 season, including a Group race treble and multiple Group doubles.
For the third season in his career, Snitzel ends 2024-25 with 31 black type wins since 1 August 2024, a tally he exceeded twice—36 stakes wins in 2016-17 and 45 stakes wins in 2017-18.
Now a four-time Australian Champion Sire and four-time Champion Sire of Two-Year-Olds, Snitzel has sired 12 champions, 23 Group 1 winners, 62 two-year-old stakes winners, 17 stakes-siring sons and 71 million-dollar yearlings.
A $650,000 buy for Kia Ora Stud, TFI and Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott at the 2023 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Prost is a three-quarter brother to Golden Slipper hero Shinzo and Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Exhilarates.
He is out of the two-year-old winning Northern Meteor mare Samarmeteors, a half-sister to Champion Female Sprinter and Blue Diamond winner Samaready, and is from the family of Sydney Cup winner County Tyrone.
Aquis Development Manager Paul Knight highlighted the Prost advantage, noting that “More Than Ready mares have a terrific synergy with Snitzel and his sons, producing a 79% winners-to-runners strike rate.”
“Headed by Golden Slipper winner Shinzo and Media Award, the Australasian Oaks, mares by sons of More Than Ready mated with Snitzel’s sons have a 58% winners’ ratio.”
“Snitzel is also clicking with mares by Starcraft and his son Star Witness, producing 93.3% winners, including Aquis’ own Group 1 sire Stronger and half-sister Lady Shenandoah.”
“The High Chaparral line is working well with Snitzel and his sons, leaving 63.8% winners, while mares with a second dam by Don’t Say Halo have a 65% winners-to-runners record when bred to Snitzel and his sons.”
