The former champion 3yo filly Sunlight heads Day 1 of the Gold Coast Broodmare Sale on Monday 27 July, the opening day of the 2020 Magic Millions National Sale.

In winning the Newmarket Handicap, Coolmore Stud Stakes and William Reid Stakes, Sunlight was crowned Champion 3YO Filly of 2018-19, and was third in the Lightning Stakes and TJ Smith Stakes.

At two-years Sunlight won five of her seven starts including the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Silver Slipper Stakes, and was third to Estijaab in the Golden Slipper Stakes.

Also as a 4yo she won the Gilgai Stakes and was second in the $7.5m Golden Eagle. In all she has won 11 of her 24 starts and over $6.2m in Stakes, and is being offered by Widden Stud as agent.

She is by Champion First, Second and now Third Leading sire Zoustar, who is this season’s Leading Sire of 4Y0s, having been Champion Sire of 3YOs last season.

From the duel Gr3 winning Charge Forward mare Solar Charged, her yearling full-brother sold for $1.1m this year, and she is full-sister to Gr3 winner Sisstar and half-sister to Gr3 Placed winner Sheikha.

Also offered on Day 1 is the Australian Oaks winner Unforgotten, a daughter of the all-conquering Fastnet Rock, from the unplaced Galileo mare Memories of You.

A full-sister to winning NZ 1000 Guineas fourth placed Special Memories, she is the immediate family of French 1000 Guineas winner Matiara and Gr2 winning sires Pryus and Marathon.

The Gr1 star Invincibella rounds out 163 race fillies and maiden mares on the opening day of this National Broodmare Sale, with I Am Invincible heading the five stallion shares and nominations.

Also the winner of four Gr2 events, Invincibella is by I Am Invincible and is half-sister to stakes winner Secret Blaze, from the unraced Galileo mare Abscond, the family of Adelaide Cup winner The Hind.

Conducted on 27, 28, 29 July, this sale is described by Magic Millions as ‘the Southern Hemisphere’s number one breeding stock auction’ with 726 mare catalogued.

‘This National Broodmare Sale presents its youngest catalogue ever, with over 54% being maiden mares or mares at first cover by some exciting new sires.’

In announcing the Magic Millions National Sale the Managing Director Barry Bowditch stated “we have an outstanding line up of stock to offer and look forward to hosting you on the Gold Coast.”

“Weather it be maiden mares, mares in foal or weanlings, this catalogue will provide you with more opportunity and quality than any other.”

In presenting the National Weanling Sale on 30,31 July Barry Bowditch expressed “it’s the premier source of pin-hooker success stories and race track stars alike. The recent Australian Derby winner Quick Thinker is the latest Gr1 winner to emerge from this sale.”

‘Comprising 309 lots, its 19 young stallions will be represented by members of their first crop at the sale which boasts graduates including superstar sires Pierro and Zoustar.’

The Magic Millions National Yearling Sale follows on 3, 4 August, with the National Racehorse Sale following-on from the yearlings on Tuesday 4 August.

In addition to this year’s National Sale series is a 41 lot catalogue on behalf of the Estate of the late Eduardo Cojuangco comprising race fillies, broodmares, yearlings and racehorses.

Lots 676 to 687 of the National Broodmare Sale comprise eight race fillies sired by such sires as Snitzel, I Am Invincible and Lonhro, plus four broodmares include three in foal to American Pharoah.
