Gilgai Farm has announced the passing of its influential broodmare Naturale, the sister to the legendary unbeaten champion Black Caviar and dam of Vinery Stud’s exciting young sire Ole Kirk. She was 13.
Bred and raced by Rick Jamieson, Naturale was humanely euthanised on Friday morning after battling lifelong complications that dated back to her days as a foal.
The daughter of Bel Esprit, out of Helsinge, was the fifth live foal from the famed mare who also produced Black Caviar as her first. Ongoing issues meant Naturale was never a racing prospect, so Jamieson retained her for broodmare duties.
It proved an inspired decision. Her very first foal was Ole Kirk, by Written Tycoon, who became a dual Group 1 winner on the track before standing at Vinery Stud, where he was crowned Australia’s champion first season sire last year.
Naturale’s passing marks the end of a short but significant chapter in the Helsinge family legacy, one that continues to shape Australian breeding through her brilliant son Ole Kirk.
