Fireball Miss enhanced the growing reputation of young sire Bivouac with a dominant victory in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on June 6.
The talented three-year-old filly backed up her impressive win in the Group 2 The Roses two weeks earlier, proving far too strong for her rivals and defeating last-start Group 1 winner Panova by 1.3 lengths.
Prepared by Ciaron Maher and ridden by Declan Bates, Fireball Miss has now won three of her seven starts and becomes the second Australian Group 1 winner sired by Bivouac.
Maher said the filly had thrived since arriving in Queensland.
“This filly has thrived up here in Brisbane,” Maher said.
“You see it year in, year out if you target this time of year with a filly like that. We had the option to go to Adelaide but we thought no, we’d put her on ice and target up here, and you can see how well she looks. She has absolutely thrived.”
The leading trainer believes the daughter of Bivouac still has significant upside.
“I think she’s a filly for the future. When she’s mature she is going to be a really nice mare.”
Fireball Miss joins an elite group of fillies to complete the The Roses and Queensland Oaks double, following in the footsteps of stars such as Ethereal, Scarlett Lady and Youngstar.
Purchased for $140,000 from the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Fireball Miss races in the colours of Bennett Racing and is out of the stakes-performed Pierro mare Femme Fireball.
Her Group 1 success follows that of dual elite-level winner Beiwacht and further strengthens the early stud career of Bivouac.
The Champion Sprinter and Longines World’s Best Sprinter has now seen his Australasian stakes winners claim nine stakes races and accumulate almost $7 million in prizemoney.
Bivouac stands at Darley’s Kelvinside farm in the Hunter Valley at a service fee of $33,000 including GST.
