On the eve of beginning a careless riding suspension, Dean Yendall made sure he didn’t leave Flemington empty handed, riding the Peter Snowden-trained filly Dazzler to victory.
Yendall was impressed with the beautifully bred two-year-old who is by More Than Ready and is the first foal of Elusive Quality mare Camarilla who won the 2007 Group One AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
Dazzler, who eased from $3.20 to start at $4 in Saturday’s Spotless Plate (1400m), settled fifth of the 10 runners and came with a strong run to score by 2-3/4 lengths from Pillar Of Creation ($3.60 fav) with Tennessee Wills ($26) 1-1/2 lengths away third.
The filly made it two from two having won a two-year-old maiden (1300m) on the Geelong Synthetic track on debut on April 13.
“She travelled really well, she settled fairly and just wanted to get on to the bridle when the speed slackened up front but she showed a nice turn of foot when I asked her,” Yendall said.
“It was a pretty good job at her second start out.
“She gave me a good feel and cruised up to them. I can’t see why she can’t get further.”
Yendall was outed for 11 meetings, including three metropolitan fixtures, in the last race at Warrnambool on Wednesday but was able to fulfil his engagements for the rest of the week before starting the suspension.
He can return to race riding on Thursday, May 17.
Yendall is currently second in the Victorian premiership with 108 wins behind Craig Newitt (126) and third Australia wide with 108 wins behind Newitt (142) and Chris Munce (125).
