X-rays have cleared Corey Brown of any breaks but the top jockey is still set to undergo more tests after being injured at the Randwick barrier trials on Friday.

Brown has been stood down from Saturday’s Group One Chipping Norton Stakes meeting after he was injured when an unraced three-year-old he was on in the tie-up stalls at Randwick got spooked and flipped over.

The jockey was taken by ambulance to St Vincent’s Hospital where he underwent X-rays after complaining of pain in his chest, ribs, shoulder and back.

“The X-rays have cleared him of any breaks and he’ll remain in hospital for observation,” Racing NSW’s deputy chief steward Greg Rudolph said.

“But he’s still in a lot of pain with his lower back, his right hip and right shoulder.”

The incident happened as Brown was preparing to ride in the final of 19 heats to be conducted at Randwick.

He had just mounted the Joe Pride-trained Polly when the filly took fright, reared and flipped over.

“The horse flipped over and he (Brown) was wedged underneath it for a short time,” Rudolph said.

Brown is expected to undergo an MRI scan.

“He might still need further tests tomorrow,” Rudolph said.

“They will keep him under observation overnight, I would suspect, and then go from there.”

Brown was set to partner Expressway Stakes winner Centennial Park in Saturday’s Group One Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) as well as talented filly Parables in the Group Two Surround Stakes (1400m).

Tim Clark will replace Brown on unbeaten two-year-old Anise in the Clarry Conners Plate and also on Brazen Babe in race three, while Rod Quinn has picked up the ride on Juveniles in the second race.

Connections of Centennial Park, Parables and Graceful Anna (Liverpool City Cup) have been given until scratching time at 7.30am (AEDT) on Saturday to declare a replacement rider.

“We’ll be working to get what can this evening but some riders might not be declared until scratching time tomorrow when we know who is available,” Rudolph said.

Brown missed much of last year’s Sydney autumn carnival when he fractured his collarbone in a fall at Warwick Farm in the week leading up to the Golden Slipper.
