Two of Australian racing’s most revered mares—Winx and Black Caviar—will be elevated to Legend status in the Australian Racing Hall of Fame, with the official ceremony set for August 31 in Brisbane.
The pair, whose careers helped reshape the sport, will be honoured side by side in what Hall of Fame Chairman Jason Scott called a fitting tribute.
“Debate has raged for years over which of the two champion mares is the greatest we’ve seen,” he said. “But their legacies transcend the sport itself.”
Black Caviar, unbeaten in 25 starts and winner of 15 Group 1s, famously triumphed at Royal Ascot in 2012. Her trainer Peter Moody, also being inducted, said: “Black Caviar changed my life… you relive those great memories again.”
Winx’s 33-race winning streak included four Cox Plates. Trainer Chris Waller said, “There’s nothing but ultimate respect. It’s fitting she’s been elevated to Legend status.”
Their dominance brought Australian racing global acclaim.
