Peter and Paul Snowden are on weather watch with I Am Superman ahead of Caulfield

Only a significantly wet track may thwart the third attempt of I Am Superman contesting the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield.

The Peter and Paul Snowden stable has been trying for three years to get I Am Superman into the 1400m Group 1 handicap.

In the past two years things have conspired against the Irish import making the field and while safely in this year, a wet track may stop him contesting the race.

Peter Snowden said I Am Superman, who is potentially racing in Australia for the last time ahead of a return to Ireland, would run if the track was a Soft 7, but any worse and he will stay at home.

“It’s a race we’ve been trying to win for three years but we’ve been on the wrong hop trying to get him there,” Snowden said.

“This year things have fallen into place nicely. After the Winter Carnival in Brisbane, we had to come up with a plan to get him there and so far, things have fallen into place nicely.”

I Am Superman has a win and two seconds from four starts over the 1400m trip at Caulfield and importantly runs well for in form jockey Mark Zahra.

However, Zahra’s task has been made that little tougher from the second widest draw.

But Snowden said I Am Superman enters Saturday’s race in excellent shape.

Resuming from a break, I Am Superman was narrowly touched out by Mr Brightside in the Group 2 P B Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 13 before trialling at Cranbourne on September 5.

“He’s a really good fresh horse, so he didn’t need another hard race,” Snowden said.

“He’s had a run and a trial over the last four weeks, so it’s worked in perfectly.

“He races well at Caulfield and back with a handicap weight, that should suit him as well.”
