Harry Coffey has given Aurora’s Symphony a peach of a ride to lead home a mainland one-two finish in the Launceston Cup.

Trained at Warrnambool by Symon Wilde, Aurora’s Symphony was coming off a last start victory in the Colac Cup (2000m) on February 11.

Enjoying the run of the race in fourth position, Coffey was able to angle off the fence passing the 600m mark and guided Aurora’s Symphony ($7) to a 1-½ length win from the $2.90 favourite Ho Ho Khan with The Risk Factor ($4.40) a half-length away third.

“In a staying race with 54 kilos, it was a great spot to be in the first four,” Coffey told Tasracing.

“We were getting a really nice run, not using much energy behind the leaders.

“Jarrod Fry made the right move coming down the side to put some pressure on and it broke the field up and I was able to manoeuvre my way into the clear.

“It was quite an easy win. He was full of running. He’s flying at the moment, and it was a great idea to bring him down here.”

Coffey said he has ridden with some luck in Tasmania over the years, however COVID restrictions had prevented the jockey from riding in the Apple Isle recently.

“I have a bit of luck in staying races so it’s always good to add another Cup to the mantelpiece and I’ve been having good luck for the Wilde team,” Coffey said.

“I’ve ridden here a few times, but I haven’t been able to get down here lately because of COVID, but we’re back now and stealing all your money.”

Coffey said Aurora’s Symphony was now likely to be aimed at May’s Warrnambool Carnival.

“This horse is owned in the local area, so would say he’d be getting wound up for the Warrnambool Cup,” Coffey said.
