Patrick Payne was a champion jockey and over the past few years has fast become a trainer to follow with confidence and that should continue on Tuesday at Warrnambool.
Hardcourt runs around in the first. This Three-year-old gelding by Hussonet is on debut after an extensive trial period, going back to 2009 so obviously this bloke has had some issues but they have been patient and with this race not having much form, I think this first starter will prove hard to beat.
Lorgnette is in the third race for Payne. The daughter of Flying Spur ran an okay fifth on debut at Moe before being caught wide and dropping out last start at Echuca. Drops back 200m to 1000m for this race which is a concern but she is drawn well for this and the very good young rider Jake Noonan is in the saddle and if she puts it all together, she’ll be in the finish.
The pick of Payne’s runners is his final acceptor for the day, Promise Act, which will run in the fourth. This Delago Brom filly has had the one start, for a really nice third behind Lorna’s Lass, who raced against the best fillies during the Spring Carnival. She has had two trials to bring her back to fitness and if she brings that debut form here, she’ll blitz these.
