With an illustrious career that now continues alongside his son Calvin, Tony McEvoy remains one of the most respected figures in Australian racing.
McEvoy’s rare distinction of Group 1 success both in the saddle and from the training ranks has earned him a revered place in the sport. His achievements were recently recognised by Hall of Fame panelist and broadcasting icon Bruce McAvaney, who acknowledged the remarkable longevity of McEvoy’s success.
“That Group 1 as a jockey was almost 50 years ago and came coincidentally in the same race that he won his first Group 1 as a trainer – the Oaks at Morphettville,” McAvaney said.
Across his training career, McEvoy has notched 16 Group 1 wins, five of those coming in partnership with Calvin, further solidifying their stature as a premier father-son duo in the industry.
