Talented but wayward colt That’s The One made an impressive debut with an easy win at Sandown and co-trainer Cindy Alderson is hopeful he may make it to stakes class.
Alderson, who prepares the colt in partnership with her father Colin Alderson for Queensland breeder Bill Sexton and his family, said the rising three-year-old had been a handful to train.
“He’s had three trials but he didn’t pass his barrier certificate until we put the barrier blanket on him, so he’s been a bit tricky in that respect,” Alderson said.
“He bucks but he can gallop. He’s pretty new and he’s pretty raw.
“Hopefully one day he’ll get to a stakes race.”
Alderson said the decision was made to run the son of Snippetson in the Follow @MRCtracknews on Twitter Hcp (1200m) when he drew the outside barrier, nine, and would be last into the gates.
Ridden by Danny Adam, That’s The One ($21) settled second last but sprinted home strongly in the straight to score by 2-3/4 lengths from Joyeux ($3.70 fav) with Soledad ($4.40) a head away third.
That’s The One is the second foal from the unraced Redoute’s Choice mare Chosen and is a half-brother to Grandera three-year-old filly Wild Goose, a 1600m winner at Moonee Valley in February this year.
Bill Sexton, former chairman of the Queensland Turf Club, has had several winners with the Aldersons including Try This, Who Dares, Destiny Calls, Sea Galleon, Leonardo Express and Wild Goose.
“Bill doesn’t come down to the races very often but he’s very passionate about his horses and I’m sure he would be at home watching this and probably yelling the screen down.”
