Sodden Doomben setting a task for trainers as Brisbane summer carnival begins.

To run or not to run is a question hanging over many stables as a heavy track presents itself at Doomben.

The two listed race features – the Recognition Stakes and the Tattersall’s Classic – could yet be impacted by scratchings but it is in another race on the card where Chris Waller is content with his runners in the conditions.

Waller’s team will saddle up Fleur Du Monde ($6.50), Up And Under ($6), Aldeenaary ($4.40 favourite) and Ceremonious ($11) in the Sky Racing Benchmark 78 Handicap over 2200-metres with all well in with a chance of saluting.

“A lot of rain in Queensland and some of them handle it better than others,” Waller said.

“Fleur Du Monde is going well, she in good form but might be the one who doesn’t quite handle the wet tracks but she will run well.”

The five-year-old mare by New Zealand sire Dundeel was a last start winner at Eagle Farm in benchmark 90 company and with the drop back in grade, she will carry 59-kilos after the claim for apprentice Cody Collis.

“Up And Under does like the wet and you can see the Sydney form going to Queensland week-in and week-out,” he said of the gelding who comes back in trip from 2400-metres last start at Rosehill.

“He brings that Sydney form and that is hard to beat there.”

Of his other pair, Waller believes that Aldeenaary was ‘a bit soft’ when finished second last start over this track and distance a fortnight ago while Ceremonious may be held off for the midweek meeting at Ipswich.

Forecasts of up to 25 millimetres of rain is expected in Brisbane through Friday.
