In a massive boost for WA racing, star filly Amelia’s Jewel will remain in Perth and won’t travel to Melbourne for an autumn campaign.

Amelia’s Jewel confirmed she was Australian racing’s latest pin up girl after her spectacular win in last Saturday’s G1 Northerly Stakes.

Initial feedback from owner Peter Walsh and trainer Simon Miller indicated the gun three-year-old would head east in 2023 and target the All Star Mile (1600m) in Melbourne.

The $5 million race is at Moonee Valley on March 18, but Miller confirmed this afternoon (Monday) that Amelia’s Jewel will stay home for the near future.

Following a spell she’ll race first up in the Roma Cup (1100m) on April 1 and the inaugural $4 million The Quokka (1200m) a fortnight later.

“It’s a tight turnaround to get her ready for the All-Star Mile,” Miller said.

“I have to mindful that it doesn’t give her a long enough break.

“The decision wasn’t taken lightly and there was much consternation.

“The program at home maps better and the new race is worth big money.

“She’ll eventually get to the east, there is no worries about that.

“We’ve been patient all along with her and that has reaped the rewards.

“If all goes to plan she races in Sydney next year with the $10 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill in October the primary target.”

Amelia’s Jewel extended her record to six wins from seven starts and boosted earnings to just over $1.6 million dollars after the Northerly Stakes.

Her only defeat came in the Burgess Queen Stakes when she ran second to Laced Up Heels.

Amelia’s Jewel handed Miller his first G1 success and the third for jockey Pat Carbery.
