Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are welcoming back their spring stars ahead of autumn campaigns

While the focus is on obtaining the next stable star with inspections on the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions Sale, the realisation for trainers is there that the autumn carnival is not far away.

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young stable is beginning to get their big names back to prepare for the Group 1 races which kick off in February.

One of their Group 1 winners from the spring, Sierra Sue is back and had her first serious piece of work in her build-up for the autumn at Cranbourne on Christmas Day.

The winner of the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes and the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, both over 1400m at Caulfield, Sierra Sue is being aimed at another couple of races over that course and trip in the autumn.

Young said the Group 1 C F Orr Stakes and the Futurity Stakes, both run in February, were under consideration for the daughter of Darci Brahma.

“She will be entered for The All-Star Mile, so that will come under consideration as well,” Young said.

“She had her first piece of fast work on Saturday morning. She looks tremendous.

“She spelled really well and has come back in the best she has.”

The Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington in March is the early autumn target for Forgot You, a winner of three of his nine races for Busuttin and Young.

After winning the Group 2 The Vase (2040m) at The Valley on October 23, Forgot You finished fifth in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington the following week.

Forgot You is owned in similar interests to Sierra Sue.

“He’s been back in a fortnight, and he’s been cantering around beautifully,” Young said.

“We’ll obviously target the Australian Guineas with him, but he will probably run in the C S Hayes Stakes (at Flemington) first-up.

“He spelled great. He was down at Merricks, and they did a great job with him.”
