Import stayer Sayedaty Sadaty has forced his way back into Melbourne Cup discussions after a strong victory in the $500,000 Group 3 Bendigo Cup.
One of four runners saddled up by Ciaron Maher, the gelding enjoyed a perfectly judged, economical ride from Harry Coffey, who saved ground along the rail before easing off the favourite Quietness’ heels to launch his run.
The win comes at a crucial time, with Sayedaty Sadaty sitting 35th in the Melbourne Cup order of entry heading into this week. His Bendigo Cup success is expected to trigger a rehandicap, likely elevating him into a spot in the field for the $10 million Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington.
“We were confident he would be competitive today,” Maher said. “He ran super and now we’ll see where he fits in when weights are adjusted on Tuesday.”
Sayedaty Sadaty ($6.50) had a length to spare on the line over Quietness ($3.30), with outsider Raging Bull ($61) finishing two lengths away in third.
