Racing Victoria veterinarians completed their inspection of the top 35 horses in the Order of Entry for the $8 million Melbourne Cup to determine their suitability to accept at Saturday’s 4.30pm deadline.
The Gwenda Markwell-trained Angel of Truth presented with lameness in the left fore, with connections making the decision to withdraw the horse from Tuesday’s feature.
Raheen House was inspected by RV vets following his run in the Bendigo Cup yesterday which revealed the horse was lame in the right foreleg. When examined again today as part of the pre-race vet inspections, the gelding was still lame, and trainer William Haggas has made the decision to withdraw the horse.
The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Dal Harraild presented with lameness in the left fore and required re-plating on the right front. A farrier will attend to the horse and an RV veterinarian will re-examine the gelding tomorrow.
All other horses have been passed by RV veterinarians and are suitable to accept.
The Melbourne Cup entrants that contest Saturday’s Lexus Hotham Stakes (2500m) at Flemington will be re-examined by RV veterinarians following the race to re-confirm their suitability to accept.
