The prospect of starting from the outside barrier in a capacity field of 14 has resulted in Russian Camelot drifting to $4.50 favourite at TAB for Saturday’s Cox Plate at The Valley.
The dual Group 1 winner was $3.50 before final acceptances were taken at 8:30 this morning and opened $4 once the barriers were announced for the 100th running of the race where legends are made.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Armory is currently in barrier six and has tightened from $6 to $5 since the barrier draw and is now equal second favourite with Arcadia Queen, who won the 2000-metre Caulfield Stakes over Russian Camelot at Caulfield on October 10.
Probabeel – victorious in the TAB Epsom over 1600 metres at Randwick on October 3 – has firmed from $13 to $9 since the barrier draw was conducted while Sir Dragonet ($11) and Aspetar ($13) are considered strong chances.
In Friday night’s Manikato Stakes at The Valley, the James Cummings-trained Trekking has shortened as favourite from $4 to $3.50 since the field was confirmed.
