Peter Snowden is weighing up whether to run Pinwheel in Saturday’s Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield or keep him in Sydney.

Snowden said wanted to scan entries for the Group Three Bletchingly (1200m) before committing to a start.

“I’m not sure. I want to have a good look at it first. I have the Missile as a back up the following week,” Snowden said.

The Missile Stakes (1200m) will be run at Randwick on August 6.

Pinwheel, a rising six-year-old, has had a break since his win in the Group Three W J Healy Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on June 25 when he was too good for Metallurgical and Swiss Rose.

At his previous start Pinwheel finished third behind Lone Rock and Crystal Lily in Group One The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 8.

“He’s a good, honest horse and has done a good job,” Snowden said.

“The Bletchingly and the Missile are both weight-for-age races, I just want to run him where I think he’s best placed.”

Pinwheel is already proven around Caulfield where he shouldered 60kg to win from Amaethon and At The Heads in the Pink Ribbon Cup (1200m) at his only run there on March 26.

Lonhro gelding has an outstanding record of nine wins, eight seconds and two thirds from 22 starts for $693,200 in prizemoney.

Pinwheel is clearly the highest rated of the 12 Bletchingly nominations with a rating of 108, ahead of Gold Trail (104), Secret Flyer (103), Stanzout (99), Uxorious (99), Dusty Star (95), Mid Summer Music (94) and Second Effort (94).

The Mark Young-trained Secret Flyer, who ran fifth to Shoot Out in last year’s Bletchingly when resuming, goes into the race in top form having won twice – both times at Caulfield – from his last three starts.

At his latest outing he finished powerfully to score from Bletchingly rival Rue Maple and Warm Love, who backed up to win over 1000m at Flemington on Saturday, in the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m).

The Colin Davies-trained Stanzout, who was fourth in the Monash at his latest appearance, was runner-up in last year’s Bletchingly.
