The Everest winning trainer Clayton Douglas will soon welcome a valuable addition to his stable’s brain-trust with Paul Gatt set to join the Douglas operation after the seasoned and successful rider confirmed that he will retire by the end of the year and move from South Australia to Victoria.
The move will add a family flavour to the Douglas team as Gatt is married to Douglas’ sister Brooke.
“Clayton is obviously a young trainer heading places and I’m looking forward to linking up with him,” Gatt told Racing.com.
“I’m certainly going to miss South Australia which has been my home since I moved there nearly 30 years ago from Bacchus Marsh.”
The four-time South Australia Metropolitan Jockey’s Premiership winner … he was also a former Champion apprentice in South Australia and was twice the winner of the State Premiership … rode his first winner in 1996 and secured that landmark Group 1 win when he won the 2005 South Australian Derby on Tails Of Triomphe, a $51 chance.
Gatt will thus retire with a proud riding record and ‘no regrets.’
