The Melbourne Racing Club has confirmed 16 nominations for the Group 1 Memsie Stakes, the traditional weight-for-age opener to Victoria’s spring carnival.
Among the headline entries are 2023 winner Mr Brightside, top-class mare Fangirl, Queensland star Antino and last season’s standout three-year-old Treasurethe Moment. All are poised to launch their spring campaigns in the 1400m feature at Caulfield on Saturday.
They are joined by last-start PB Lawrence Stakes winner Private Eye, Ciaron Maher’s Another Wil, Tom Kitten – now in the care of Anthony and Sam Freedman – and defending champion Pinstriped, making for a high-quality field.
The nominations also include several proven stayers who are expected to progress towards the Cups later in the spring. Last year’s Melbourne Cup hero Knight’s Choice, Godolphin mare Zardozi, 2024 Caulfield Cup runner-up Buckaroo, and emerging stayer Deakin from OTI Racing are all among the entries.
The $750,000 Memsie Stakes is the first Group 1 race of the 2025/26 Victorian season and promises a stellar line-up for Caulfield’s feature meeting.
