Knight’s Choice will not be seen in this Saturday’s All-Star Mile and his autumn campaign is up in the air after the Melbourne Cup winner was on Monday found to be injured.
Co-trainers John Symons and Sheila Laxon revealed that the five-year-old had suffered a leg injury and was set for a stint in the spelling paddock.
“We are disappointed to advise that Knight’s Choice has, unfortunately, sustained a knock to his fetlock and the subsequent filling indicates that it is best to put him aside for a few weeks to allow the oedema to subside,” Symons Laxon Racing said in a social media statement.
The injury means Knight’s Choice will miss not only this Saturday’s All-Star Mile (1600m) but also the Australian Cup (2000m) on March 29.
Those two Group 1 races, which are each for $2.5 million, will be run at Flemington, the scene of his Melbourne Cup win at $91 last November.
It is hoped sights will be able to be reset on the Winter Carnival in his home state of Queensland, where the $1.2m Group 2 Q22 (2200m) had been touted by Symons and Laxon as a target race.
